AFAIK, auto boxes on the Juke are a major, major problem.

'Have you still got the Zafira'

Yes.

'Has it got a towbar?'

No.

'Send me the details'

(sends loads of details)

'Shame it hasn't got a towbar'

(I just blocked them, it's easier that way)

Girl in my office trying to replace her stolen Juke.

'I've been warned off buying a Merc with a small diesel engine as it's rubbish made by Renault'

Me confused, quick search on net

'That will be the same rubbish engine that Renault made for Nissan and was stuck into your last car then'

I think she bought a nearly new Sportage in the end as it had 'lots of toys'.

But have you got a tow bar that would fit?

If I had a tow bar on it I'd be tempted to back the fucking thing through their garden fence at 3.00am.

Driving home from work this morning,i am behind a local demolition companies hgv dumper truck.

I pull out to overtake it and the bus in front, just as the truck pulls out aswell. The truck catches the stones, debris in the center of the road along with the dust/small stones in the back of the truck, and just pebble dashed my car. Luckely there was nothing behind me as i braked and tucked in behind the bus.

I have 2or3 small chips in the screen, and watching the stones hitting the bonnet.Thinking FUCK.

Fuck you co-op insurance fuck you twice

I always have car insurance that allows me to add the odd vehicle to it for a day or two, it was co-op who turned out to be cheap on the roulette wheel this year and I duly checked their website and yes indeedeee you can add temp vehicles. few months down the line I want to buy a spares car 60 miles away, oh no sir you cant add temp vehicles to this policy as its with co-op eco, the same but slightly seperate from co-op and it's a no go, first I've heard as I took it out with bloody co-op.

Now faced with paying a kings ransom for a day insurance to drive a car for one bastard hour, first quote was £100...no really it was. Car has to be picked up tomorrow evening and I don't want to lose it so off to search for a more reasonable quote..suggestions welcome!

Get someone else to buy it for you, then drive it on your 3rd party insurance of a car not owned by you etc.

that only works if the car is insured already by someone else.

That depends on your policy, it varies between insurers.

I have enquired into this with a very very long list of insurers and have never found one that will accept it. I would be VERY interested to know of any that do.

Admiral used to years ago, I rang them to specifically confirm when picking up a car for a friend, they don't now though, it's specifically noted on the policy document that the car must have a valid insurance policy in force

I think most are now well wise to that old chestnut

Last one I recall was via Lancaster about three years ago.

Once got day insurance on a Fiesta RS1800 for about £25 a couple of years ago. Just googled day insurance IIRC.

Aye it used to be pennies, I think its mainly used for getting cars out of the pound now so they stick it to you badly.

I have tried them since then and no go now for me anyway. As CF said, they seem to have got wise to it.

Take out an insurance policy online, drive it home and then cancel under the 14 day cooling off period?

I mean, not that I would condone such shenanigans, but I think it's technically legit

Posted

Just be careful if you don't pay the whole year in one go you can get hit with the whole cost of the finance as well as the few days you need.

Posted

I presume me adding it to our multicar policy, you paying the extra cost for a month and not crashing would be illegal wouldn't it?

Generally a £50 admin charge and i'd expect the first payment would get taken too

Haha it's ok thanks but I like where you were heading with that.  I've got it down to £41 for the day which is just about bearable, just means I'll have to squeeze a few extra quid out of the parts, I've just found out it's got a set of freshly powder coated  17" OZ Polaris wheels with decent tyres on so that'll cover it

I couldn't swear to it, but I thought the cooling off period for online purchases was enshrined in the consumer rights act preventing them from hitting you with any of that shit unless you make a claim

But you'd be wise to check it out thoroughly before proceeding

Had it been round here I could have driven it up to you.

Citizens Advice suggest that all you'll pay in the 14 day cooling off period is the premium for the days you were insured (eg cancel after 2 days and you'll pay 2/365ths of the whole policy price) plus a "small" admin charge. Never heard of insurance being exempt from Consumer Contracts Regulations (previously Distance Selling Regs)

https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/insurance/insurance/managing-your-insurance-policy/cancelling-an-insurance-policy/

You're entitled to ask what this small admin charge is before purchase. Cooling-off period protects you against any purchases made remotely, because they can't expect to read the entire T&Cs to you over the phone - or in this case, the 60 page policy booklet they all seem to come with.

Busted-out my The Wire DVDs to find Series 1 is missing a disk. Happened to see a copy in Cex for £2 so snapped it up. Opened that today to see Series 3 disks fooks sake!

It was when I worked "In the trade" about 10 years ago.

Cheers Billy very kind of you, I'll  now start looking for shite in your area :) actually If you come across any very cheap manual omegas round your way please give me a nudge

Phoned to book my 1 year old daily in for a service at the dealers. I'm a bufty with it so it's only done 2.5k since the last service where they turned me over for a oner to change the oil.

They spent ten minutes trying to upsell me for a fucking engine flush! (the car has done 5k from new) saying it would improve MPG and performance significantly, along with £50 "MOT INSURANCE" which covers repairs that my car would need for its first MOT (in 2019), providing those repairs aren't wear items like tyres/brakes/suspension or anything else that is actually tested on the mot. It would cover structural welding and "manual steering rack" though.

As much as I want to like having a new car, I bought it because I just needed a car for a few years that would be someone elses problem until we move somewhere with a drive, but no amount of bouncing their courtesy car off the rev limiter is going to make up for having to deal with fucking car supermarkets.
