I can't stand the playlist of 6 songs repeated every day for a month

bit like the way this same topic gets discussed in the same way over and over on this thread .i think this is the fourth time now !

Perhaps we should all boycott the licence fee then in protest. I have been spending the last few hours trying to get my uber cheap Cybervision region 1 DVD player to talk to my Uber Free Panasonic telly so I can watchmy region 1 Are you Being Served (region 1 box set £24.99, region 2 box set £69.99!!!)So far its a big fat PHAIL.

I quite like the BBC but they are prone to bouts of patronisatation at times, the Asian Network thing being an example.Maybe Asian music doesn't get that much of airing but a whole network dedicated to it? Seems crazy to me.Like all this 'music of black origin' nonsense, why can't people just listen to music of any fucking origin and decide whether they like it or not?

Asian Network

Whats wrong with a whole network dedicated to Asian music ? I quite like it to be honest, exspecially the Bhangra Remix and the songs that sound like they should be in a film :)

The problem in my view is that things like this are best left to people who have a passion for it and really want to make something of it rather than just mindlessly trying to tick boxes and satisfy quota's. To me it's like saying every second PM needs to be a woman rather than there being a suitable woman who gets selected by her party and then elected as per normal.

I can think of much better ways for the Beeb to save money:1. Get rid of BBC3 - its just full of repeats of Two Pints of Lager & Eastenders.2. Merge Radios 1 & 23. Get rid of BBC News 24. I rate the BBC's news output, but the rolling 24hr news is really starting to piss me off. Too much repitition & opinion & celebrity shit.I think they should deffo keep Radio6 (big fan) & also keep the Asian Network in some form.

Quite agree with you on BBC news 24. When I first moved here in 2006 I thought it was a neat idea but now I see it for nothing more than a 24 hour borefest which covers the most inane and boring things like the Snowpocalypse and tries to build things up to sound 10x worse than they are. Also I don't want to hear what Fred somebody from some small village in the arse end of nowhere thinks..... I really don't give a shit!

So, we are all agreed - the BBC should be privatised and made to earn its keep by selling airtime to advertisers, and the ITV network should be nationalised to form a public corporation known as the BBC.As for the comments on Radio 2, there are suggestions to make it 50% speech based! I mean FFS we have Radio 4 and 7 for speech...Bring back Home, Light and Third I say.

Radio 2 could instantly be made a lot better by getting rid of Steve Wright and also killing anyone who rings into the Jeremy Whine show.

I certainly like the idea of killing anyone who rings into Jeremy Vines programme! Nice one. Just send a BBC death squad round. What pisses me off is, the BBC is great. Why are so many folk out to grind it down? Its one of the few truely great things about Britain. I'm happy to pay the licence fee, its a bargain. LEAVE IT ALONE!!! Its inevitably these cretinous tory MP's who are bezzy mates with various members of Murdochs evil empire, who call for it to be chopped/closed/privatised/etc.

I'm glad you liked my idea :D I also agree that the BBC is fundamentally pretty good. I think Britain is a fundamentally pretty good place to live tbh and it says a lot that people seem to complain about fairly minor things. I mean I hate Jeremy Vine's show, but I can just choose not to listen, there are far worse things going on elsewhere than programming that people don't like. You mention Murdoch, personally I love the guy. Fox does my two favourite comedy shows, the Simpsons and Fox News :)

+1For the £140 the licence fee costs, its great value. It produces a wide range of programmes of which the truly is something for everyone. Its a lot better than having everything funded by advertising, trying to appeal to a mass market and therefore dumbing down to the level of pond life in the process (although I'm obviously excluding Radio One from that).

Posted

I love the BBC too. I don't want my licence fee to go anywhere near Sky or commercial TV, if they can't generate enough revenue from advertising or from subscription then they must make efficiency savings, not whinge about the unfair advantage of a public organisation funded by subscription (the licence fee). After all, according to Radio 4 the other morning (it's what I listen to when I'm walking the dog) The BBC's total turnover/income is less than Sky's anyway, so what are they whingeing about? The fact that they want to dominate the marketplace and they're not at the moment, but a slice of licence fee would allow them to do so...

Because we don't have (to my knowledge) national networks dedicated to punk music/ska/reggae/whatever.If there's a popular Asian artist/song it should be played on Radio 1 or 2/wherever. If it's good it'll make the play list and do well in the charts, if not it won't get played. As for someone else's suggestion of combining R1 and R2 I'm afraid that would be doomed to fail.Imagine the schedule?07.00-09.00: Chris 'funny as a terminal illness' Moyles speaks loudly and thinks he's hysterical.09.00-11.00: Sarah 'gobshite' Cox twats on and does her own version of Popmaster. Which will be shite.11.00-13.00: Jeremy 'Hand Wringing' Vine sounds patronising, nearly cries as he speaks and asks lobotomised truck drivers for their thoughts on the European ruling on the recycling of hamster shit.13.00-16.00: Steve 'wank face' Wright' talks over guests, sings badly and makes people want to smash their radios up with a fucking big axe.16.00-20.00: Some excrutiatingly annoying Scottish bird teams up with an Irish bloke to talk indecipherable BOLLOX. One sounds like some finger nails being scratched down a window, the other a helium induced version of Pingu and both want to make your ears explode.Anyone with any semblance of talent or entertainment (Radcliffe, Bruce etc) would be on from fucking 01.00 until 07.00 until the whole sorry fucking shebang starts again.

Two Things:1) I have discovered the difference between £161 wing mirrors from Nissan and £14.99 wing mirrors off eVilbay. The non OE mirror, whilst doing mirrory things has a knob that now fouls the internal trim panel. Meaning I either have to leave said panel off and rattling round the footwell, or have a bash at modifying it to clear the knob (with the foregone result that it will look cack)2) The Zafira needs an EGR valve (again).

I don't really watch the telly much but I listen to a lot of radio; 4 in the morning and during the day, 2 in the evening (Radcliffe & Maconie, Harding) 5live at the weekends (Baker, Murray, the footie etc.) so like others, I will happily pay the licence fee. Well worth it in my view.Granted the licence fee is a tax, but then I also pay taxes for things such as hospitals, the police, libraries etc. Stuff that I have had no use for recently but they are there if ever I need them....And sometimes I like to just sit down and watch BBC4 when I feel like it.....I also refuse to give any money to the Murdoch evil empire too, and why should I :?:

Yeah I watch very little TV nowadays (probably an hour a week tops), but what I do watch tends to be on BBC channels - HIGNFY, Newswipe, erm..... that's about it. That iPlayer thing is a right useful tool though, so when something is on that might be worth watching I can check it out at 3am without putting any effort in whatsoever.Thing is, the general output of TV isn't aimed at me, but I've got over it and learned to just buy DVDs instead. Channel 5 is quite good nowadays though, a load of American action fluff like NCIS, I could probably half-watch NCIS all day.

GSF pissed me off today.Decided to replace the front wishbone rear bushes on the BMW. Rang GSF, gave them the chassis number, the reg, and told them it's an E36 318is. Took the old ones off (they're a proper bugger to shift) and GSF sent a set of replacements up - for an E46.Rang them and the parts droid said "Oh, on the computer it's a '99, so it's got to be an E46, so I've sent the right ones, your car must be wrong". Arrgh. So, now my car is sitting in the workshop 10 miles away and I had to put the bloody thing together again just to move it out of the way to free up the MOT bay for the morning. I've had to arrange a lift from a mate to get me back to the workshop, I've got to take the frickin' bush housings back off, then drive 10 miles back towards my house, beat the motor factor droid over the head with them until they admit they're wrong, then back to the bloody garage to fit 'em. So, that's a 1/2 hour job that's turned into a four hour one just because some muppet couldn't be bothered checking on the computer. It's utterly screwed up my day as I was meant to be getting the body repair to the wheelarch done tomorrow, now that's got to be done at the weekend so I can't go pissing about in Wales on my mates boat.Ok, I shouldn't have whipped 'em off without checking first, but these guys are meant to be professionals, and E36 wishbone bushes are as prone to failure as K series head gaskets..

That's pretty shocking. I'd love it if someone did some research and discovered that 'clever' computers actually get you the wrong part more often than Fred who's worked in parts for 40 years.

Yeah, but Fred's only any good with Transit parts.
