I wonder if autoshite is like a "advanced" level for trolling? Ie Mumsnet is a beginners level, all you have to do is go on and say you're going to stop breast feeding because it makes your husband uncomfortable and watch them erupt, whereas on here everybody is fairly laid back and we take the piss out of ourselves anyway (its in the name really). To actually get people's backs up you really have to put some time in, research the subject material and read the forum for a while to find the few things that actually do collectively piss the place off, and then time it all right otherwise you're unlikely to get any kind of reaction at all.

I like this as an idea but r20tx wasn't quite your usual troll, he was a real life person who sold his velshatis to a forum member for £500.

I was among those who tried to give gentle pointers of how not to get peoples backs up by endlessly posting non-threads about non-existent renno 20s but he didn't seem to take the hint.

I personally would have tried to warn first rather than ban, but this probably did happen via pm or whatever, and IR not a mod and wouldn't fancy being one.

Thanks to those who do put the effort in to keep this place ticking over nicely.

I imagine some people would rather see this in the grin thread, but if that applies to you I reckon you need to grow up really. I can't bring myself to be pleased about car crime no matter what the car, that's going to be a right load of hassle for all involved except the bell-end who sells them.

I'm with you mate, that's a real shitty thing to come back to regardless of what the car is or who you are.

I've never seen anything like it. Jeeze.

How can someone just rock up and do that?!

Is it just* a case of putting new wheels on or is that going to have caused damage to the rest of the car?

The vacuum cleaner energy rating is about as accurate as the vw emission certification, the manufacturers can do it themselves with no central body to oversee it.

Looks nice, I'd register the warranty though. 6 years is it?

Now registered for the 6 yr warranty. For what it's worth!

To be honest, I find it hard to get excited about vacuum cleaners! If it works that's fair enough for me. The test drive round the kitchen did suck up an awful lot though- and most of the kitchen is in the photo!

I think the brakes were on the way out to be fair, and there is a big improvement in driving (or rather stopping).

The other bits are split CV gaiters, which he showed me and the anti roll bar link bushes (?) which he waggled around, no idea whether he was over stating that problem mind you.

It's all stuff we've never spent on and its an 8 year old car so its to be expected I suppose, but bad timing really!!!

i once had the pleasure* of taking the company hack to kwik rip-off for a new tyre.

while i was there every customer* who came in needed either 2 or 4 new tyres. didn't seem to matter what, that was what was required, never 1 tyre, or 3. it was 2 or 4.

one poor bloody woman who had come in with a slow puncture was browbeaten into buying 4 IMO overpriced tyres, poor mare was in tears.

with my own car, i would never ever take my car there, unless desperate.

the one time i did, having had a puncture on the motorway, it cost me £95 for a tyre, whereas at the local independent the tyre would have been less than half that.

The Audi has been teasing me with nagging little hints that the brakes might be unwell.

Booked it in for a brake check at halfolds....

Replace all of teh things!!!!! Plus this this this and this is wrong with it.

Merry Christmas car.

All moderns etc etc.

Also couldn't hack anymore resting (or couldn't fit in any of my trousers anymore) so figured I'd start my walking a month earlier than advised. It pinged last night and I'm back to limping and tourettes type yelping.

I've probably spent £200 on it so far and booked in for another £40 session on Friday.

Merry Christmas, body parts.

I'm moping.

Louise, you didn't, by any chance, have the child seats in the car, did you? Maybe even a 2CV Junior with you?

"Oooh, it needs a full set of brake governer ABS oojit rings. Along with an electronic pull-up traverser. And you have to replace all pads and discs at the same time. You can't be too careful with the little ones in the car."

*sucks teeth, and thinks of the commission.

i'm amazed that the tea leaves were able to get the jack out from under neath it.....

I would imagine the jaunty angle it's been left at relates to putting the jack sideways, and then just pushing the car off it to move onto the next corner.

Loosen all wheel nuts, leave for an hour. Come back with jack, five minutes max for four wheels. A lot of effort to remain untraceable though, all multistoreys have ANPR these days (which is quite good, I lost my ticket once and pressed the "help" button, someone took my reg and charged for the time I was there) so must be dodgy reg or a nicked car.

Posted

Yeah i was trying to work out how you'd get a jack in and out again without damage, i too reckon there's lots of damage underbody.

Wouldn't be surprised if the low life's have some sort of lever they use, lift it straight up on the sills then just drop the bloody lever sideways to remove, one thing is sure they won't be pissing about with a screw jack doing their best to make it as easy as possible for the poor sod who's got that little lot to add to their Christmas miseries.

Posted

They probably used cordless buzz guns to whizz the wheel nuts off and with four of them 'working' my guess is they'd have stripped those wheels off in no time at all.

Must be CCTV in the car park though?

Posted

Couple of big buggers and a scaffy pole.

Posted

Yep, I have seen it done before. 4 guys with a cordless impact driver each buzzed the nuts off then they had a technique for rocking the car side to side that slipped the wheels off......no jacks, no pissing about, done in literally 15 seconds.

If there was a jack lying there they maybe got 1 rim caught underneath so a quick jack up to free it and off they went.

They've got CCTV on the entrance only, I'd be surprised if they drove their car in - would probably be quicker to just park on the entrance road and roll the wheels out past the barriers.

Is this the new* car park next to Westgate station? If it is I thought they had permanent staff walking round it, have seen the job advertised before.

Saying that even if they weren't fast and got seen most people wouldn't even notice let alone do anything about it

Don't say that :(

Oh well, its done now.

At least it's still got wheels.

Whereabouts in n Wales are you louise? I can recommend a garage or two nr Wrexham.

Posted

Ta, other side of Caernarfon though.

Defo shopping round for the other bits. On the bright side at least the change is noticeable.

Posted

I don't know what was done of course, but that doesn't sound too unreasonable for sorting out the brakes- especially if they were definitely needing attention. I've never heard of anybody coming away from a Kwikfit safety check less than £400 lighter.

Posted

Well that's what I said to Matt, i reckoned even if we shopped around it would probably all come out around the same price. As it was, we were there, the car was up on the lift with the wheels off and they'd got the parts delivered before we'd finished fannying around finding change for the bus.

I'm sure I'd heard about the drive shaft gaiters on these being expensive, but £160 each was a bit of a shocker!

Edit: the money I mentioned was what I have spent (not) fixing my leg.

Posted

Yeah I think so, bear in mind the only experience I have is changing the ones on the 2cv myself.

The drop link doobies were £62. Which is a much nicer sounding figure!!

I know I'm going to be sorry I asked, but what pinged?

Ouch sounds bad Louise (leg not car)

Kwik fit near me are properly good. Nice guys who aren't pushy and happy to do a deal to get the business.

It's something in my hip/pelvis.

I've had various professionals mention a strain/tear of the hip abductor or illopsoas and the MRI showed oedema on the obturator exturnus and marrow oedema in pubic bone. Consultant queried a stress fracture on the pelvic ramus. It's been playing up for over a year now, I have managed to get running again for a couple of months this summer after 8months recovering from first incidence, but have been off for 3months again.

I know people have much worse health worries but I really loved running. It's the first leisure/hobby interest I have been passionate about ever! Plus I've put on loads of weight again!

Something immediately springs to mind, but I'll spare you the uninformed internet diagnosis!

He was hard work, granted. Yes, I stuck the boot in a bit.

I find the banhammer trend worrying - Autoshite didn't use to be like that. I remember EccentricRichard getting the boot and that being a rare and unusual event. Unless someone's playing games, we're averaging two or three sackings a month at the moment. Can Dave not look up Flynn's/OldFart's/R20TX's IP to see if it's the same person?

Flynn - banned in August, Old_Fart - banned in October, Renault20tx - banned in December.

I can't remember any others being his with the b*nh*mm*r, and would struggle to argue against any of those three bans.

I hate the fast fit places and unfortunately had to use one recently to get the tracking done. First of all, they were all surely miserable bastards in the various places I phoned/called at and second, all keen to extract the maximum from your wallet.

I would NEVER use them for anything but tyres (at a push) and tracking if no other bugger will do it.

First thing AMS did was put my car on the brake tester and at that point, I was getting angry - I didn't ask them to fuck about with it, just do the tracking! They must have been gutted that they couldn't find anything to advise me on - if they had, I would have been seriously pissed off!

Many years ago (when I was but a sprog) I took my then girlfriends Escort in to a Kwikcrap type place for the wheels balancing. The list of faults they came up with was amazing and they would all fail the MOT. They were not best pleased when I asked them to wipe off the WD40 type stuff I'd seen them spray on the front struts, which they showed me as evidence of them leaking, and told them it had passed its MOT the week before. Which it had!

I hate them all. They have utter mongs working in there that are too thick to be mechanics, but think they are! I'm not that fond of mechanics either as they are all trained in the delicate art of bullshit on the first day. Bare in mind: I was involved (and still am slightly) in the motor trade for a long time, mush experience of a variety of people.

Sorry if I have offended anyone. You do get decent people who are mechs/techs and even in Kwikcrap but they are the exception, not the rule.
