Have managed to negotiate an additional travel allowance from work for my soon to be longer commute (30 odd miles by road rather than 15mins by train) was looking for something vaguely interesting for the job - since when have fiat 126s been so expensive? Ffs

I'm sorry I did it again....

I got bored and went on to retro rides. It's nothing but a mutual wankfest. No matter what the car, what's been done or going to be done to it every single one of the posts all love it* or some such guff.

Does my tree. I'm that sad that I've even thought of just saying what I want (I k ow they're not into that) even if it is "your cars shit" but I don't want my username to lead back here. I'm far too lazy to sign up again with a different one

I'm the last person to speak up for Retro Rides, but if you think the cars are shit are you not better off just avoiding the place?

I mean, saying "your car's shit" doesn't generally go down very well here either.  The world isn't necessarily improved by all of us saying whatever we feel like in public all the time.  I'm all for free speech, but just because we can, doesn't necessarily mean we should.

Sorry if this aggravates you and I should listen to my own slightly sanctimonious advice.

Problem is you get people with far more enthusiasm than talent being told how great their awful mods look and no one is allowed a differing opinion. That complete goon who removed the springs from his Micra to get some OMG EPIC LOWZ for example

Whilst 20 something birds pay loadsa money on daft finance packages to get behind the wheel of these fashion accessories they will remain expensive.

And their crap, by all accounts.

No offence taken, that's what I like about here, and each to their own opinion and all that.

I was paraphrasing with the "your cars shit" it's just something I don't think I will ever understand that some people on there are really skilled at keeping cars alive but 99% of them are lowered with stupid banded wheels within a week and then they go on to change the engine.

Cars that have lasted upto 50ish years as standard get messed with and can become nearly unsaleable/savable by their dicking about.

The issue with Retro Rides is that for every piece of staggering engineering, interesting design and brilliant fabrication job there are 3 cases of somebody buying a Polo, chopping the springs in half and attempting to fit a 4.0 Rover V8 and then selling the shell on eBay after it's been rotting in a garden for 3 years because apparently dropping a random engine into a car not designed for it is no easy task...

Somehow the bastards always manage to pick up a low mileage gem from some old biddy for peanuts as well while all the cars I can find are massively overpriced rot boxes.

^^^this. Today's that set me off was a 2 door triumph. Really nice welding but of course engine swap incoming but it was already a 1500 low mileage one....

Good point well put. Completely agree (and not just because I'm not allowed to disagree ;-) ).

Well the AA got the Innocenti going again - it's still not right but it got me home.  Diagnosis is that it's somehow managed to drag a load of crap into the carb - not sure where it's come from, but I'll be picking up an inline filter tomorrow and fitting it as close to the carb as possible.  And also trying not to run the thing quite so low on petrol again.

Eddy, in future you can try your local library, they offer printing and photocopying. I have used my local library a few times because as you say, these little pots of ink are like gold bullion. They have decent printers too :-)

Buy a mono laser printer off gumtree. I got one for 20 quid, they last for AGES, previous owner printed loads and still loads of ink left. Inkjet is rubbish and inefficient.

Air show crash :(

7 dead, pilot not too good, Daimler ds420 destroyed

Terrible crash - Would normally say the DS420 destroyed was tragic -  but  the fact 7 folk died makes the DS minor fodder - Very sad

My car isn't showing on the insurance database, but it is insured. I found that out yesterday when I nearly missed a ferry for being pulled over by some pleasant traffic cops.

Is this reason enough to reject my insurance company who've messed me about big time already, without paying a cancellation fee?

Check that hey haven't fucked up a digit on the number plate. Mine did this and it resulted in an ANPR pull in the Escort that I had briefly.

Did the pilot eject? Thought he'd have been too low for that in a Hunter. If he does make it, there'll be some explaining to do as from what I saw it was pure pilot error. Not good whichever way you look at it :s

Probably yes, but remember these insurance firms are arse'oles when it comes to getting anything back off them or cancelling.

It could be a painful process with them blaming the database, and not themselves.

I checked AskMID on my phone while I was sitting in their car, it wasn't showing as insured and still isn't.

Labour MP for Dewsbury (don't want to know her name) on Look North yet again waffling about some shit. This is at lest the third time she's been on. Seems she's yet another one that just wants to get her face on tv

Bah! Just found out I can't insure the Merc as it has a Cat-C marker on it, I have to get it repaired to pre-accident state before I can insure it.

This means that I'll have to get the KV6 on the road again which means an MOT and tax bill. Brill :(

I can't buy another a car due to space issues. Sod it.

Also, attempted to go to Bridgnorth again today, didn't happen for the second time due to confusing fares. Seemingly I couldn't get to Bridgnorth from here on the fare I originally paid.

Simple things in life made that much harder because of rules/regulations and fees.

You have my sympathies certainly on rail travel. It's a confusing bloody nightmare. Certainly demonstrates the nonsense of privatisation as just like with energy providers, it's staggeringly difficult to work out the basic cost - especially if you haven't done a shit load of planning and homework.

Pay the road tax by DD Mo, only a couple of quid more but saves lobbing out a lump sum of cash.

Cheers, only if I can get the bleedin' KV6 insured. So far Peter James wanted over £600 to be paid all in one and Footman James didn't want to know as it's not 20 years old and I have to have a classic insured with them firstly.

Today has not been my day for paying to get a vehicle legal.

I've just been caught looking at (car) porn on the internet! Was perusing the web for Bentley Turbo 'R's when Jo' walked in... words ensued :(  I got my own back though: she was complaining of a 'whooshing' noise in her car (brand spanking new Renault Clio high spec thing) so I went and had a look... drivers side sill absolutely FULL of water! Pulled a bung out at the back and a gallon (sorry, 5 litres French car) of clean fresh water poured out.

So, it now has to go to the dealers for a look-see. That and the back window is broken and a front CV joint is clicking.... It's done a massive 3000 miles.

Well, I did manage find someone willing to take monthly installments @ £600 so it looks like the KV6 will be my transport for a bit. I guess at least I've got something shitey enough to bring to Cholmongdobly.

Cheers, will 'em a try. Not paid for my insurance yet until tomorrow so will give these a try before monies leaves my account in exchange for some legal papers from a privately owned company to enable me to drive my own vehicle.
