vulgalour Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Managed to pull a muscle in my back when locating the oil drain plug on the beige Princess so I utterly failed to change the oil today. Oh well, at least I didn't do it when I was halfway through the job with buckets of used oil everywhere.
barmatt Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Why do people say "I could get more than that for it in parts"? Fine! get off your fat arse and break it then but don't expect people to pay the value of every single part of a shitter coz you can't be arsed to pull it to bits! michael1703 and fred 2
Cavcraft Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Direct Liars are hopeless, lying fucking wankers. Any other insurance company I may have been inclined to believe, but they're probably pissing you about into the bargain too.
fordperv Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 SWMBO ordered a new settee at Christmas from DFS. We've dumped the old one, new one was to be delivered today. Her dad was there for the delivery. Came, went, sorted. Except it's not. She's just gone home to find they've delivered the wrong settee. Not even the same colour. She wondered why I refused to deal with DFS before...Offer ends Sunday. the day they don't have a sale on I'll stop driving shite
Conrad D. Conelrad Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Virgin Media, you asked Netgear to make you Superhub branded wifi modems. They delivered you ordinary modems with non functional wifi. I haven't opened the Superhub but I strongly suspect the wifi light is a Christmas tree fairy light Blu-tak'd to a 9v battery. Please contact one or all of the following: Actionfraud: 0300 123 2040BBC Watchdog: [email protected] Please title your email "we bought fake routers which pissed off our customers by not working on any 2.4 or 5ghz channel" Sent from my phone using an elderly and unreliable wifi router plugged into a Superhub with wires.
HMC Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 My first grumpy thread post. Just Woke by a phone call from Chubb security, works alarmGoing off, had to traipse to work and investigate. Allfine, but adrenaline is pumping and can't sleep now

Fine! get off your fat arse and break it then but don't expect people to pay the value of every single part of a shitter coz you can't be arsed to pull it to bits!I hate this too. So many decent and very restorable cars get broken these days because greedy bastard breakers/racers get hold of them, then ask top dollar for the car as that's "what I could get for it in parts mate". When it doesn't sell they try and sell the parts, and inevitably only manage to sell a few bits at their inflated prices before scrapping/racing the car anyway. I'm sure there are good, cheap breakers but that's my experience of them.

I'm sure there are good, cheap breakers but that's my experience of them. The sad truth is that a lot of cars are worth more in parts. I had a Citroen Pluriel. No loss to the world scrapping this one, but advertised for a month at £700 with 6 month tax on it and no takers. I then needed an engine for another car and the cheapest secondhand engine was £200. So I decided to break it, Currently I have sold over £500 worth of parts and my prices have been amongst the lowest on ebay. At the end of the day we all have to make a living.
Lankytim Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Economics RULE OK. Another insurance gripe. My insurers asked for my proof of no claims, so I emailed it to them. They then replied asking for it again and threatening to cancel the policy, so I emailed it again and got the wife to take a printed copy into their office. Bit of a fuckabout and the receptionist was rude and incompetent apparently. Either way they accepted it and amended their records. Yesterday I had a letter from then giving me 7 days notice of cancellation. Fucking twats. If I could get a full refund I'd cancel on them and go elsewhere.
dollywobbler Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Economics and enthusiasts don't seem to go well together. It's rare to see a classic car dealer who isn't hated by most fans of the cars they deal in. Justified? Possibly, as paying the bills doesn't always go hand in hand with doing what's best for the car. As a 2CV specialist I know has found out though, nothing wrecks your reputation like saying you'll break a rare car for parts. Even if said car appears to be unsellable! (No-one wants 60s 2CVs it seems)

The leather interior went to some 17 year old who paid me out of his student loan, bonnet to someone with a track slag puma, door to someone who had been hit, boot to some dude who put his glass through slamming the boot onto something etc. Made loads more than if I'd sold the car whole with 3 months tax on, and then I got it dragged to the bridge and got even more money! Shame, as there's not many F1 trim Pumas out there still but meh, would have got bailed anyway
saucedoctor Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 I went this morning to buy a set of these. The seller (friend of a friend) wanted 80 bills, and wanted me to come round before he went to work. They were 5 stud. GAH!
EssDeeWon Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Car - BMW 330ci (2002)Problem - Drivers door lock friggedReason - I need to manually lock and unlock the BMW sometimes as the GM Modules on these play up so after a while the remote central locking goes hit and missCurrent Situation - The car is being kept locked up in the local Indy's workshop while I wait for the new door lock barrel from BMW in GermanyMy Moan - These BMW door locks are to be used only in an emergency so they don't last long? What the fookedy fook? BMW cant make a suitable door lock barrel that lasts any amount of time so I need to look into getting the remote locking issue sorted. Btw this is not the local BMW Indy trying to fleece me as BMW themselves told me this yesterday and they seemed quite proud of the fact too! Conclusion - ££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££ to be spent if I wish to keep the car for a while as the door lock barrel will just break again soon!

cort16 Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 My much younger brother in law has got a job at your place. He's using his Mum's 06 Peugeot 206 which in the last week has... Had the oil pressure light come during cornering as there was no oil in it.Had the back box fall off it.Had the hand brake cable snapHe's been stopped and fined by the police because the MOT ran out in AugustAfter MOTing it yesterday and me not giving him a lift for the first time in a week he phone me at 8.55 saying he's conked out and has no gears.I get there and the gear selector rod has popped off. Some minor faffing gets it into 2nd and he drives to the office, call AA who come out and say it's alreadybeen cable tied on once and they've just cable tied it on again. Booked in to get this fixed tomorrow. I hope that's the end of it as I'm off next week and can't give him a lift and there's no easy way to get here without a car. He needs to get himself a Volvo 740 Lord Sterling 1
Junkman Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 BMW cant make a suitable door lock barrel BMW doesn't make any door locks.
gordonbennet Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Did the mass producers get together at the turn of the century and all agree to make their cars with a lifespan of 8 years. Those 206 woes or the equivalent could be applied to most modern tat, bloody Mundano would shit its DMF and bollox the starter and if that didn't knacker it the bloody fuel pump would distintegrate and block the injectors, anything with an electric parking brake will present its owner with a bill likely to write the junk off before its 8th birthday. Peter Patina 1
cort16 Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 He's thinking of getting his own car for about a grand but I I'm struggling to think of much cheap to insure and modern that isn't shit.
Spiny Norman Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Did the mass producers get together at the turn of the century and all agree to make their cars with a lifespan of 8 years. The number of 54/55 reg cars you see in scrappies would tend to suggest this is the case. He needs to get himself a Volvo 740 THIS.
cms206 Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Has CMS not got 7-8 spare volvos? Two at the moment, one 760 and one 940... heading for the bay shortly I think
hairnet Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 they changed the FUCKING ROTA at work again (see happy thread)
EssDeeWon Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 BMW doesn't make any door locks.Who makes em? They new one is coming from BMW in Germany as we speak. Im talking about the barrel that is also held in by 'farious clips and springs and what not' that have a tendency to break if used to often? I owned an early SD1 = BL nightmare for 5 years and even that let me lock it and unock it with the key without it breaking!
Conrad D. Conelrad Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Went to bed feeling fine, then woke up about 5 AM with a very high temperature, sweating profusely, for some reason very muffled hearing, evacuated all sorts of unpleasantness from all sorts of orifices for twenty minutes and then went back to bed assuming this was the start of a bad illness. Slept until 11am and got up feeling absolutely fine. Wondering if I should have a pizza for tea. What the hell was that then? Is 20 minute super fever a thing?
saucedoctor Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Sounds like some sort of bilious attack. If so, not pleasant, but not serious either.
Junkman Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Who makes em? The BMW global supply chain isn't visible to me, but they were/are delivered to BMW by the lowest bidder at the time of door lock supplier contract tendering.
Conrad D. Conelrad Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Sounds like some sort of bilious attack. If so, not pleasant, but not serious either. Never heard of this, but a quick Google and that sounds exactly like what happened! Thanks, Doctor Sauce! saucedoctor and scruff 2
dugong Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Bilious Attack is an excellent band name. As is Margot Power. Lord Sterling and saucedoctor 2

saucedoctor Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Bilious Attack is an excellent band name. As is Margot Power. Someone on MacDroitwich (soz, can't remember who) was discussing names for a band, and the name "Spaz Mongley & The Electroturds" was formulated. I think that's just about unbeatable.
