Nothing worse than friendly fire.!

In true autoshite style i now have no road legal/functional car.

BMW - Freshly fucked up front end

Fiesta- Doesn't get VIC till the 7th

Lupo- Has been sat on the drive for nearly 3 years, through no fault of it's own. When it's last MOT ran out i bought a cortina instead of testing it.

Beige Cortina- Not finished glueing back together after it's respray.

Blue Cortina- Is costing £bumrape in parts/panels before it gets stripped and dipped.

Conclusion......commonsense says bridge the fucking lot.

I won't though.

I stopped returning Common Sense's calls and at one point had to have a restraining order issued.

Mr.C.Sense would probably suggest resurrecting the Lupo, but where's the fun in that ? The true Autoshite solution is to... buy yet another car ! Come on, you know you want to ;)

There's something badly wrong at the right hand side of No.3. It's easier to see if you click to enlarge the picture.

They brought it to us a few months ago for an mot & oil change, the oil & water looked the same then, they were well warned of impending hgf but kept the car anyway.

After bursting a coolant hose and pissing It's water out, they drove it until it overheated.Outstanding work...

What happened to the bmw?

Posted

Spec lift on the wagon caught the front as i was turning it around. Smashed the indicator "loosened" the headlamp (which now does a grand job of illuminating the kerb) and marked the wing.

Now repaired using gaffer tape and clear plastic, the approved autoshite method, till the new lights arrive friday.

Mayo in the 944's header tank. I'm starting to think that buying this wasn't the greatest idea I've ever had..........

Condensation from short journeys?

Posted

Now, is this me just being a grumpy old bastard or what......

I was recently offered a car which used to be mine, the autobox, for whatever reason had fooked up.

It was offered to me for 300 quid. I did a quick mental calculation, and with the cost of a repaired or replacement autobox, deemed it too expensive. The car was put on general sale and failed to sell, probably because of the duff box. In all other ways, it was a cracking car, I know, I used to own it. About a week or so later, the car was cubed. When asked how much the scrappie had paid, the answer was .....180 quid.

Why couldn't it be offered to me for 180 quid? It would have lived on. Now there's a complete stranger making x amount of pounds on parts before completely destroying what was basically a good car.

There's another car on another forum which has recently caught my eye. It has been standing for a while after failing the mot. Not huge failures, but needing a thermostat housing. Could the dodgy housing caused HGF, I don't know, it would be a gamble at the right price i.e. scrappie money, but the price of this unknown quantity...500 quid. I can see that being yet another 180 quids worth, but when asked what the best price would be, he wants to get as close to 500 as he can. About 200 then.... Am I bitter and twisted, of course I am. Why can't people just sell these cars for scrap money to enthusiasts rather than holding out for a price they're never going to get. I'm baffled.

Condensation from short journeys?

I'm with Cavette on this one NC, my 944 did get a bit of condensation from time time. Each time I saw it I did instantly shit myself though.

Yo tetley, at the end of the day money talks, If you think its only worth £200 just send him a polite message offering him £200 ono, as long as you dont sound like an arse hole (OI M8 ITS ONLY WURTH £75, HOW ABOUT I GIVE YOU £100 COLECT 2NITE LOL) then when all his other options bar the scrap yard have dried up he's quite likley to sell it to you for scrap money plus a little bit. The 'little bit' is worth having if you are going to do a hassle free deal with him.

Clearly if he thinks he can get £500 then he aint gonna sell to you but when it dawns on him that £500 is actually not realistic and he recalibrates his expectations, you might be in with a chance.

I'd agree if the mayo was in the cam cover/dipstck tube/engine............but says in the oil so would suggest oil cooler (if fitted) if not gasket failure (OMG etc...)

If it's not overheating, the HG hasn't gone.

However, when it starts overheating, the HG has probably gone.

My Skoda always had goo in the cap, and tonnes of smoke out of the exhaust, but it never overheated and as far as I know, the HG was fine.

I'm always paranoid about steam from the exhaust when it turns autumn, as you don't get it in summer.

I KNOW its a rattly old A series that should not be compared BUT my Moggie does the mayo trick round about now (it did it all last summer but not this one).   Short journeys deffo.   Give it a blatt about 20 miles (I only commute 5 miles) and it goes away.   Not saying its not knackered but it has no other HG symptoms and sure as hell wouldnt be doing 70 most days if it was HG related.   None of my other old pushrod shit does this mayonnaising thing and its been like it for 9 years.

+1.

It's sometimes amazing what results you can get just by being polite to people. I often tell sellers that I think their price is very fair, and that the item could even be worth more, but all I have is X amount and I'd happily pay that for it. Doesn't always go to plan of course but if you remain polite and wish them all the best anyhow there's a chance they might get back to you at some point.

I tried this today - I politely said I was interested but I had x pounds to spend (£500 less) and the guy said to come on down for a look so I am hopefully off "darn sarf" Saturday morning with a pocket full of cash.

Non of this: "Hi m8,you got a ruff price your looking at for ya van, would you take £2,000 could come and have a look tomorrow!!"  - that was £700 less than my advertised price and a day after I'd agreed to sell it so he got nothing.

Any union types on here?

I'm sick of work's antics.

I've got a brazier and a donkey jacket you can borrow Brother Wat.

And I know how to talk bollocks, give broken promises and not stand up for the people who are paying me to do my job of supporting them.

Definitely the header tank (which was nice and clean when I bought it). Porbably need a compression test to know for sure, but very tempted just to cut my losses and just add it to the "seemed like a good idea at the time" list of cars I've owned

Work are cunts. Our holiday policy has always been that you can carry over as much holiday as you want as hey its your holiday. Just dont take it when you are needed next year.

Now they have said in September of a Jan-Dec holiday year that I need to take all my holiday as I can't carry any over anymore. Its not like I have a lot to take but ut would have been nice if I could have taken it in the summer rather than you telling me this as soon as the sun has gone away.

Does selling anything with 4 wheels attract timewasters?

Advertised a mobility scooter on gumtree, within 5 minutes of me posting the ad someone rang, asked various questions (the answers to which were in the ad anyway) and said they would ring back the next evening to arrange to come and have a look. did they ring back? Did they bollocks.

Last night someone rang, on behalf of someone else, rang back again when they had contacted this other person and said they would come round tonight. Got a text this morning say could their son come round after lunch to look at it... er no because believe it or not I'm at work.

Got another text this afternoon saying they can't make it tonight and don't know when they can get to see it.

Anyone know if there's a such a thing as mobility scooter banger racing?

P.S. Anyone want a cheap mobility scooter?

Is why. I live in one of the worse areas of Leeds and when I see a mobility scooter in the distance I play 'Disabled or lazy'.

Round my way, its normally lazy.

You have not got a product that generally appeals to a high class of person. You may well be lucky to get a genuine person who needs one but no matter where you are there will be a million of these goons wanting this to take their dogs for a walk to the off licence or bingo hall.
