The grumpy thread

In other news: my back. :( I pulled a muscle in it last weekend and have been in agony since. Currently sitting with a hot-water bottle between me and the chairback.

Can you imagine the fun and games involved in finding a hot-water bottle in Cyprus in November?

Ice packs (a bag of frozen peas will do) are supposed to be far more effective than hot water bottles (wrap them in a towel so as not to get freezer burn). No pain - no gain

I've been advised by a nurse (a Brit, who is a friend from the pub-quiz team) that heat is what I need. I've heard about cold, but believe it or not, we're cold enough here without that!

I have just bought a Bosch pressure washer for cleaning cars, boat, paths, etc. I don't know how I have managed to survive without one as long as I have because our water company has been gradually reducing pressure for several years now. I have a nasty suspicion that they are part owned by Karcher. So I bought a Bosch.

Anyway, to get to the point of this ramble: Instructions say "Only use Bosch approved detergents" then a dire warning about what happens should you have the cheek not to.

Nowhere that I can find does it list what detergents are Bosch approved. If they expect me to buy Bosch liquids at double the price they can go and whistle.

Worked hard all of last week and was therefore rewarded with a nice healthy 3-figure sum landing into my account, suddenly though, I realise that I had pay for a new tax disc. Now my bank account has turned from having a healthy 3-figure sum to having a worrisome 2-figure sum which will easily go within a few days. Work is getting a bit thin on the ground and now I'm only called when I'm needed (I work for an agency, the only place that could get me regular work in little time :( ) so a good lot of regular money isnt something thats gonna happen, probably for a long while.

GREAT STUFF, MORE OF THIS PLEASE!

I always forget to take a picture so I'd used someone else's but this always annoys me everytime I'm in Bratislava:

american-embassy-in-bratislava.jpg

This is the main pedestrian street in old Bratislava, there are nice buildings like this along it, a nice fountain/water feature along the middle then the US of A turned up and built themselves

a compound bang slap in the middle... wankers.

If they are that bothered about being attacked then pack up and go home.

In contrast up outside the centre you can find most of the other countries embassies and just about walk up and knock on the door of them, even the parliment has just one guarded gate etc.

You should see the US consulate in Frankfurt, Germany. Never seen so steel fencing and razor wire.

Was there in 07 and there was a cracking little car museum, is it still there?

Of course it does. Their modus operandi is to squeeze every last penny from customers, employees, suppliers...

Tescunts. Having gone through a web-based process to convert my sister's ClubCard point things that Sir Tim Berners-Lee would have found taxing, I finally managed to order my niece a bicycle. I duly printed off the emails and went to collect it on the prescribed date. The bint in Tescocks told me "We don't sell bicycles"

Took a 1 hour old (faulty) TESCO mobile back for a mate, only to be told "We don't sell those, you can't have got it here" despite it saying TESCUNT MOBILE on the box, and I had the recepit. it took nearly an hour to get a refund, and the twat managed to crash the EPOS somehow.

While I feel sorry for the staff that work there, I hope the local one to me burns to the ground.

Seriously, she did you a favour. The things that supermarkets sell as bikes are not worth the cardboard they are packed in. Every year I'm surprised how they can get away with selling the usual full suspension chrimbo deathtraps, with some instructions written for a 1980s BMX and a universal spanner that wont fit any of the bolts right.

A couple of years ago I worked as a bike mechanic, and would get lumped with the job of trying to make one of these things more or less rideable and safe a few times a week. They are really not worth the effort.

I'm really not a bike snob. I've ridden and built some proper shite, but the stuff sold at supermarkets and argos really isn't one bit usable.

I am amzaed how they can sell a 'full suspension mountain bike' for £99 or whatever, you just know all the bearings, chain etc are gonna be made out of cheese. Like sub-TESCO VALUE cheese, not even 'Catherdral City' or some such.

I'm grumpy because I feel exhausted for no reason. The fact that I was driving for 4 hours yesterday shouldn't make me knackered today, especially given that I slept for 9 hours last night. I need to fill in some pointless application forms for public sector jobs (yes, I am sure it is critical to ask me twice in the same form for the full addresses of old employers that have moved or gone bankrupt) tomorrow and I am dreading it already.

feck me its windy - we have a 65 year old scotch pine in the backgarden, its about 50- 60 feet tall and its bending and swaying about 10 feet at the top

must be 60 mph gusts outside

just spent 20 minutes nailing the shed roof back on and collecting bits of fence from around the garden:shock: im going to check it again in an hour or so

you think uv got wind .

my winds wet from eating a burger at birmingham wheels tonight :?

Ah classic e-coli dispensers. Seems outlets in the Birmingham area are well known for it, even the so called premium venue the NEC. I've had food poisoning twice from food there, and I know someone who almost choked to death on a bacon sandwich whilst at the NEC toyfair. It was the event organiser! Whoops!

I avoid any form of 'fast food' at events if I can help it. Food hygiene is never a priority on burger vans.

im off back outside, at 4am, to fix the shed roof for the third time tonight

Have you tried hammering a larger shed roof on it

When I worked at 'frauds, on the old computer system you used to be able to find the cost price of an item by writing one off as scrapped and looking how much the losses figure went up (or something, this was 5 years ago), and the £89 full suspension pish cost the company £19. Obviously they buy thousands to get them at that price, but when the scrap value of the thing in metal is probably £3 or £4, you can imagine how much is left to spend on quality control and "design".

I spent ages nobbing about with the non functioning door lock on the Alfa yesterday. I recon there's some wanking safety solenoid thing thats engaged for some reason to block you locking the door that's now jammed on . I took the lock mech out the car hoping there was a fruit polo or something jammed in there but nothing. It's a sealed unit so so you can't get in to see what actually blocking it. Aaahh.

Also while removing the door card a rogue clip flicked my pinkie just above the nail and didn't think anything of it until I looked at it and the bloody was pissing out it at an alarming rate. I fixed it by bashing some masking tape over it.

Had a few more drinks than normal last night (no mean feat I can assure you) and as such I now feel like I have a British Seagull two stroke engine with no exhaust running in my head. Missus has stomped off to town Chrimbo shopping and wanted the money from the Mondeo to go with.

Letting her know it's been spent on important things like another (shit) car, fags, ale and the like hasn't gone down quite as well as I dreamt it might have. Even the five quid petrol station flowers I bought her yesterday as a pre-cursor to the storm I knew was coming haven't helped much

Bosch pressure washer lasted for less than five minutes and I didn't get half of the car done before the hose came off the back and then, although the motor was running it wouldn't pump anymore.

B&Q were quite happy to change it for a Karcher at nearly twice the price.

R.I.P. Gary Speed.

Just heard that he was found dead at his home in Cheshire at the age of 42 this morning!

Just heard the same, I didn't even know he lived in Chester tbh.

Heard about Gary Speed on Sky a little while ago. Sad news indeed.

Regarding Bosch power tools. Lately, they've been utter shit. The motor fell apart in a barely-used and expensive Bosch cordless drill a mate had, and the same item failed in my hedgeclippers. I have a Bosch cordless strimmer, and while it works, it barely holds enough charge to do my pretty small garden. I'm about to get a Ryobi pez jobbie to replace it for a GR32 price, as they have a factory down the road and a mate's getting one for me at about 80% off.
