Gran Turismo. Just bought myself a lovely grey 1954 2CV, and after treating it to a Stage 2 engine tune (which took it from 13bhp to 21, w00t) I took it for a blat to see what it was like. What a disappointment. Not only does it sound nothing like a proper 2CV, it also barely rolls in corners at all. Waste of money.

 

Also, a few days back I completed one of the Championships (think it was for FWD cars) in first place, so got a free car - a 1985 Honda Civic racing car. It's fugging brilliant, goes like hell and corners like a go-kart, and has become my new "daily" despite being completely untuneable. So yesterday I did one of the classic car championships, and beat all comers in my tuned E Type (although one of the rotary-engined Mazdas did run me close). Great, I thought, another free car. Perhaps a nice little Alfa Spider, or even a Datsun Fairlady? Nope. A bloody Subaru 360. About a zillion shite points but utterly useless in the context of Gran Turismo. I could spend 10,000 credits on a full race exhaust if I wanted, which would take it from 13bhp to 14. What a waste of virtual garage space.

 

Yes, I do need to get out more.

I haven't seen a 240 for sale yet. I did almost buy a Bickle-spec Datsun 411 (same colour and everything) a couple of days ago but I bought the E Type instead, thinking I would come back for the Datsun once I'd won a couple of races and built my credits back up. Came back and the bastard thing had sold.

I'm in the local government pension scheme and it is alright. At lower wages like mine it isn't remarkable, but it is pretty reasonable and means I might just about be able to just about exist when I'm old. It isn't in any kind of trouble, it has enough money to sustain itself for something like 20 years without anyone putting a penny into it. The money the government intend on taking out of it will be going into central funding, not back into pensions. They're using it as a cash machine.

 

The fact that pensions are absolutely pathetic in the private sector is a big problem and is the real issue which should be tackled. Currently I (and everyone else) have protection in place called "Fair Deal" which means that any jobs outsourced to the private sector are required to either buy into our pension scheme or provide a pension which is broadly similar. Part of the proposal means getting rid of that entirely - I'm aware of a depot where the outsourcing company which plans on taking it over isn't going to do any sort of pension scheme unless required to by law, yet they're one of the biggest multinational companies in the world - they can't even give their staff a pension.

 

Personally I don't think a strike is the answer and I'm not even in the union, but people in this country seem to have an attitude of wanting everything to be brought down to the worst level (particularly at the bottom), rather than making sure everyone has a reasonable life. The pensions argument is probably one of the best examples.

It was more aimed towards threads I've read over on RR Simmo, It seems deliberately put in rather then by error, You'd get a perfectly spelt post then "TEH" added in the middle, I'm sure it's on purpose.

The boiler broke the other day (actually, the heaters were the issue but caused the boiler to break) and we had to wait 2 days for the council to bother to do anything. So they fit all these fancy new boilers and then don't have a quick turn around time for spare parts (Which they should considering all the houses they have are getting these boilers). Then it is LMH so I should expect nothing less, still not come out to look at the bathroom floor 6 months after reporting it

Are there any decent, honest car sellers left out there in the big, wide world? Been chasing a car that was advertised with the number plate masked off and the seller was very reluctant to forward me the reg. no.

Eventually coaxed it out of him, had an HPi done (many thanks to the person who did it) and it transpired it was a Cat B in 2002 and 'bodsyhell be crushed, car should not be on the road' was the marker against it.

Not the first in recent time either, far from it.
