The grumpy thread

The only reason i was unsure is because I'd only been on the phone to BT a few days ago as my broadband was playing up and the BT call centre is all indians, I thought it was a follow up call from them, I guessed it must be some kind of scam once she started telling me that i had to pay £79 to get it fix, I told her my mate fixes computers for nothing and hung up.

I'm a bit concerned though that she can still hack into my hard drive and damage it over line.

Well there you go.all you married people are going to get money back in Tax relief...which I won't get because I'm not married, so I'll be paying more, but you know what I don't care as thats my choice

if you are concerned then get the number they called you on and google number and it will tell you if they are a scam and maybe where they are calling from

There's some funny shit in the comments on that Guardian article. They seem to get easily riled if you don't play along:

I've had this call several times too. First time I told the guy that I use a Mac so his call was irrelevant. Few minutes later, he calls again. I told him to stop calling as it was getting quite irritating. A few hours pass and he calls again. He changed slightly and asked to speak to my husband or father. I asked him why and he replies, "because they are ****ers"

Looks like I will be getting some tax relief after all then! Now that is a classic Tory policy. "Thou shalt be married!"

Hey, just thinking about one of the suggestions/gripes on here does that mean I should pay more tax then someone with three or more kids, and someone with one kid pays more than me?

That is exactly what happened, apart from her saying that she's from BT, who are my broadband provider.

Bloody hell these seem poular then. I had the same call from a noisey indian call centre last week. She said she was from select security and there have been reported virus attacks on my street.........hmmm this sounds dodgy I thought. She knew my name and address but that's not difficult to obtain. After a lot of questioning from me she then asked me to go and turn my PC on to which I said no, then she hung up.

Whilst I am on this thread I am having a grump about people talking about politics on the Internet. DON'T DO IT! Only bad feeling will prevail. There is no right and wrong answer, only opionions which some will agree with and others be mightily pissed off at.

+1! You're so right. And by the way, I lived in Southport all my life until last year... :)

If I get a call from ANYONE of this ilk, and they start to ask me "security questions", I refuse to answer them, and tell them to write to me.

1# SODS FUCKING LAW..........

Apart from taking pics of tat, I also like to snap pics of Rover 800s, because, yes, I am a sad dosser who likes these cars...

Anyways, I go out on my bike (Mountain sort, not motor) to the local Petrol Station come Tescos, on the way up I realised I forgot my camera equipped mobile phone at home, so what I think, and carry on. What should I see whilst paying for my items, a Blue Rover 800 saloon, I'd previously seen this car driving the other way, so I couldnt get a pic then for obvious reasons, and now I still cant snap a pic of this car for reasons of PURE STUPIDITY.

Twice I've seen thise car and still cant get a photo. You watch, I probably wont see it around for a LONG time.

FUCK OFF 'Sods law' and take your fucking rules with you.

2# Internet connection.....

Has decided to go on a go slow/idle/sleep when left for more than 1 minute. All my settings are fine and have been checked, but the connection just dozes off or "cannot find server" when left for a bit.

Hopefully I'll be able to change for a better connection soon and this'll be binned.

This didn't even happen to me, but it still annoyed the hell out of me that someone so ill-informed and small-minded can be in a responsible position (but on reflection it doesn't really surprise me):

My sister had to get a repeat prescription from her GP this morning, and had her two children with her. While he was writing it out, he asked whether they shouldn't have been in school - when she told him that they were home-schooled, he launched into a lecture about how wrong she was for doing it, and how it could be viewed as abuse or neglect. According to him, it's like someone giving medical treatment to their children when they're not a doctor.

Now, if he'd bothered glancing at her medical notes on-screen, he'd have seen that she has a very long history of chronic anxiety and stress-related problems, and therefore laying into her about any subject, let alone one as important as that, is bound to screw her up slightly. Also, what decade is he living in, exactly? Home-schooling wasn't exactly a 'new thing' when my parents did it 25 years ago, and while I fully appreciate the dangers of giving certain 'types' free rein with their children's upbringing, it's been proven that it generally produces better results than sending kids to state schools.

Fortunately, she didn't let it get to her, and was able to shrug it off, but I still think at the least it warrants a stiff letter to the practise about where exactly a doctor's remit begins and ends.

:evil::evil::evil:

Also, RIP Norman Wisdom  not only a great artist, but one who managed to squeeze every drop out of life without ending up on drink or drugs.

I've never been a big fan of Norman Wisdom's work, but he obviously gave great pleasure to many, & judging by the various obituaries I've heard he was a lovely, humble, friendly bloke.

Peoples opinions of homeschooling make me mad! Long before we'd decided on having kid I got interested in homeschooling and "how it works" and did some research on the interwebz, its a lot different to how I'd imagine. Shortly after that I got chatting to some customers who had home schooled their girls one who was sitting her A level Higher Maths at 16. In our area which is fairly rural and not densly populated there is a network of 160 homeschooling families, they have "school trips" together and share knowledge in subjects. Maybe there is not the socialisation you get in a classroom, but why is it considered best to segregate children based on their age? Home-schooled children generally get to interact with a much wider range of age groups than those in school. I'm sure most home schooling families put a lot of effort in to ensuring their kids go to different group activites: sports clubs and the like. The subject has cropped up a couple of times, one friend disagrees with his sisters desire to home school because it will leave the child "socially crippled". It seems to be one of those subjects where a lot of people naturally assume it's wrong because its different, without actually knowing anything factual about it!

And to suggest its abuse or neglect is frankly disgusting.

I'd find a new doctor.

One of the guys at work killed them selfs last night, just found out about it tonight, totally gutted, he was a really nice guy and was only about 27-28 and totally not the type I'd expect to do something like that.

Reminds me a few years ago we had an appointment to see a plastic surgeon because one of my daughters (then only a few months old) had a deformity on one ear (now all beautifully fixed). He started going on about what a pain in the arse it is to have a large family and how we shouldn't have any more. I remember that I felt like telling him it was nothing to do with my daughter's ear and to mind his own damn business but you can't because you're really at their mercy as you want something done and I didn't really want him angry later if he did the op.

Also when my wife was pregnant with our first the nurse who was doing the first scan told her that the child probably had a spinal deformity. She didn't in the end and was perfectly fine and got my wife upset for nothing. I've even known perfectly healthy babies to be aborted because people talk crap like that. For similar reasons we never had the downs test because the test can sometimes kill the baby and they don't have a cure anyway, but they never tell you that stuff at the time, just pressurise you to have the test.

Posted

Yeah, they do tend to be doom mongers when it goes to babies. When Mrs Lankytim was preggers we were told the heartbeat was very weak/ wasn't there and the pregnancy wasn't viable, one consultant even said they had never known a pregnancy go full term under these circumstances in their 30 years of practicing. All bollocks, Naomi is just over 7 months old now!

Royal FUCKING Mail and BT SHITTY Payphones :x:evil:

You still use shitty phone boxes? Haven't used one for years, and the last time didn't give any change

I didnt really have a choice, I wasnt planning to use it, but no land line and no credit on phone and the need to phone up people to see what the hell they were playing at :( See below for more details....

What a fucking shit day, all because Royal Mail couldnt be arsed to do thier job.....

My mission today was to finally get back onto 4 wheels and get my Micra back onto the road. Yesterday morning I managed to buy a new insurance policy, first step to getting car back on road. Man at the insurance company asked me if I would like the policy sent to me through guaranteed next day deilvery, I thought why not, that way once the car gets its MOT I can simply pop to the Post Office and buy new tax, or so I thought..............

Today rolls around, pick up car from storage, battery is a bit weak so got it jump-started and car drove just as it should. Drop car off to garage for MOT and hand keys over. On the way home I decided it would be safer to take my money out as I knew there would be some up coming charges and I only had enough money to pay for tax.

I managed to hitch a lift off a mate I saw down the road and took the bus for the rest of the way home. Finally get home to be told by relatives that the Insurance documents had not arrived but normal post had. It was around 1pm and was told the documents would arrive around 12:30 (Guaranteed next day delivery) phoned up the Insurance company to find out what was going on and was told that the documents had arrived and had been signed for :? -

I remembered though the last time this happend I bought something off ebay and used the 'Guaranteed next day delivery' service, the item did not arrive at my house, but did arrive at the sorting office, the 'next day' and the "signature" was only to say the item had arrived at the Sorting Office. Shit, I need to tax my car today and Royal Mail were seemingly taking the piss, I knew that they were just going to take the piss delivering the documents. WANKERS.

Got a call from the garage to say the car was ready but they needed it gone as they dont have a car park so very limited space, TURMOIL.

Shit, maybe I could phone up the Insurance company and get them to e-mail me a copy of my Certificate of Insurance? Payphone decided it wouldnt take any money, FUCK OFF, managed to find anohter phone and phoned up insurance company only to be told they couldnt e-mail me the Certificate as it had already been sent through the post, this isnt going to work out, everything was working against me, all because the POST TWATS decided to take the fucking piss with my important documents - I could imagine some tired Brummie bloke at the sorting office looking at the piles of "Guaranteed delivery" items and thinking to himself - nah, fuck it, I'll do it tomorra'

So, a bit of grovelling to the garage saw my car resting at thier place for the night and I'm still without a fucking car.

 Cheers for that not all RM employees are twats, guaranteed next day delivery or special delivery would be I guess around £5 - £6 quid for that if you paid for that then fine but I cannot see an insurance company doing it out of the kindness of their own heart. I bet it has been sent recorded delivery first class (1-2 days). And our crappy system would not update in that time frame (up to four hours) so they are spinning you a line on the " it has arrived and been signed for", ask them for the tracking number and post up the first two letters and I can tell you how it has been sent. My guess is that the insurance company sent it out on a 4 or 5 o'clock collection and you will get it tomorrow or Friday

Whoever told you this is speaking through their trumpet why you would need to track something to a sorting office I don't know, my guess would be incorrect postage or blaming RM when they had forgotten to send it.

The Insurance company asked me if I wanted it delivered "Guaranteed next day delivery" for which I paid extra for.

Whoevers to blame, the fact remains that I dont have my documents, if I dont have my documents, I cant tax my car, if I cant tax my car I cant move it anywhere.

Next time I'll find a company who can actually e-mail me a certificate.

Posted

Fair enough sounds like is should have been with you today have you got a tracking number? As I said before if you give me the first two letters I can tell you what you paid for. Emailed certificates are good my current insurers emailed me mine and I waited for them to be sent to me, I only found out my error when I rang them after a week  .

Posted

Thanks Akron, the first 2 letters are AR.

I've just had a bit of a bad day, hence my rant, wasnt being personal or anything. Every path I went down just seem to end abruptly without result. All for a simple thing.

I know that Insurers are a bastard to deal with. I find just trying to find and buy a policy to be a torturous experience.

Unfortunately due to my circumstances I had very little time to purchase the insurance. I would often buy a policy about a week before I see the car just to make sure all documents arrive in tact and on time.

Posted

Lying bastarding insurers mate AR is not guaranteed next day that is signed for recorded 1st or 2nd class basically proof of receipt of documents at the address, 1st I would hope for in your case if so then you should get them tomorrow Friday.

(Don't take this as gospel with the codes but I am 95% sure I am right)
