Each to their own and all that jazz, and don't mind watching banger racing but you'd have to be a weapons grade bellend to race that Bentley.

Cringing at some of the other stuff that's been raced (shown on the link), there's some bloody nice looking cars wasted there.

'The bangered Bentley of 1949 was a design of James Young. Only five were made of this model. One of the five left is in a Bentley museum and is insured for 1.300.000 Euros'

Presumebaly it was fucked anyway. I doubt a banger would pay >1mill to buy a decent one and smash it up.

An alternator will be something that I'll be upgrading to, The car already has electronic ignition fitted which is one upgrade.

Is the leccy ignition one of the types that fits inside the dizzy? Make sure you carry points/condenser etc in case it goes wrong

I really wouldn't bother going to an alternator unless the dynamo is buggered or you are going to frequently drive the car short distances throughout winter. Or unless you are going to fit some mega amp ICE.

Please don't :(

Nope, but if a minter is worth 1 million even the most fooked example has still got to be worth a shite-site more more than your average frag-worthy Mondeo.

OMFG, it's an XK150...

:shock::?

Posted

just read the PH thread on the xk150

that racer seems typical of the banger racers i come into contact with

they will race anything, the older and more unusual the better - and sod the people who look on open-mouthed as another rare old motor gets trashed

Is there any real diference between banger racers and those Scumball Rally twats who take a rare car and dump it in the Sahara desert?

Grrr...thought I had fixed the Astrashite by fitting a new ICV - the same problem has returned  and now it's only starting when it feels like it too!

I have found that when the key is turned to II then there's no sound from the fuel pump on the occasions when it won't fire up. So I tracked down the fuel pump relay in the kick-panel and wiggled it when it wasn't starting...and it fires up. Assuming the relay is knackered now?

It could be the terminals, either the males on the relay or the females they plug into. Loose contact = intermittent fault. Worth a look.

More likely to be the soldering inside the relay itself.. it is getting to be a really common fault on all sorts of 10-15 year old shite. Pop the top off the relay, resolder the joints (usually one of the power side pins cracks away from the board)

Cheers guys, I'll pop the relay out and have a look at it. I can get by wiggling it for now!

Ollie (the wife's dog, see the 'grin' thread) hasn't been a well chap. Vets Thursday, injection and pills £35.00, few days before another £35.00 and tonight another three jabs and a call out £65.00.

Don't get me wrong we don't begrudge a single penny of it, if the little fella gets better it's worth that and more.

Seemingly he's been eating bark in our back yard, so fingers crossed that's all it is and nothing major.

Missus is gutted.

What relay is it, what part number. These Bosch thingies are designed to break after a while I reckon. FPR's fair enough, the coil gets a bit burnt out, but ABS sensors, etc. It's just an iron core with a coil around it.

I've got a few FPR's, don't know where I got them from but if you need one. :)

This is the offending article - Part number is 90378651. If you do have any like that Station then that would be much appreciated mate 8)

Work. Not my new job, I love my new job, but it's at risk. My old employers (same organisation) just can't stop trying to ruin my career/life and it genuinely looks like I'm going to have to employ a bloody solicitor to conclude it all. I really can not be arsed with this, I just want to turn up to work in my big car, do a load of boring and unrewarding work and get a cheque every month. Is that too much to ask? Why the hell do I need to spend hours of my weekend reading through a load of legal blurb to figure out where I stand, whilst drinking to dull the feel from my head - it's like the pain you'd get if someone wrapped string around your head from above your ears and around your eyes, then gradually pulled it tighter. And who the hell sends a letter out on a Friday afternoon so it lands on a Saturday morning when they're closed and ruins your whole weekend thinking about it? I genuinely think I might be losing my marbles, but I need to figure out how to fix all this nonsense before I'm not in a position to do so. Mental!

Jack it in and become Hirst Cabs for real. Seriously!

Then give me a job. I'm very good at sitting around the depot drinking coffee and know a few racist jokes as well. I can supply my own copy of The Sun

Life....And death....Sometimes it just doesn't seem fair.

On July 25th of this year, my 62yo mother finally lost her 7 year long battle with throat cancer....A tall, attractive, lively, funny, and extremely compassionate woman, she fought bravely (with the help of her partner) against this evil disease, until finally, after a stroke, she was just laying in bed, barely able to open one eye....To me, at first, it was a relief to see her finally at rest, but in the weeks since I've found myself struggling to retain my composure at times....Feeling like I'm ready to explode....I've been looking forward to a two-and-a-half week break from work that I have coming up....Planning to relax....Just re-charge the batteries.... :(

Yesterday, just 6 weeks after my mum's death, I return home from a weekend visiting Sam's family, and attending the christening of her nephew, in Oxfordhire, to find a Police Officer waiting for me....Here to inform me that my dad....My 75yo father, a fit, active man....Still motorcycling (BMW F800), still enjoying his car (a lightly modified Ford Puma)....A man that I love, respect, and admire immensely....Died suddenly at home yesterday morning....I'm utterly devastated.

Ever felt alone? My partner wants to help, but my mind is totally blank and I don't know what to do....The person I've turned to for advice for the last 40 years is gone....Already, I miss him so much it hurts....

Sorry....Didn't really mean to depress everybody!

Some dozy fucker owned my car before me.

He had it three months, and in that time performed two modifications.

First of all he changed the headlight bulbs for some "HID ZENNON ZENON ZEON XENON CALGON L@@K 100000k" things. I when I first drove the car at night I noticed that I seemed to be lighting up peoples sky dishes more than the ground. They weren't actual HIDs, just those shitty bulbs with a rainbow coating on them. They lit up a pale shade of pink.

He'd put the h4 bulbs in about 80degrees out of line, and bent the clips trying to force them in.

Anyone who's put a H4 bulb in a car (with good access - its an mx5 so the whole 7" unit comes out and you put the bulb in with the light on the bench) will stand by me in saying you have to be a very special kind of fucking idiot to get it wrong.

He'd then rounded off all the screws that hold the lens in, I assume trying to adjust them so they aimed forwards.

About 10 miles later the exhaust started clanging HARD on the back valance. The stack of numberplate pads he'd put on to cushion it had melted.

Then I stuck my head under the back of the car and found this:

Can't afford a new one at the moment, so I got the welder out and spent an hour making it fit slightly better. It's no prettier, but it doesn't rely on temporary adhesives any more.

I'm glad he didn't try and fit the lowering springs he bought for it - in his words "I bought um, but I couldn't fit them cos you need some special tools apparently"

This "special tool" being a pair of spring compressors.

EDIT: The post above mine put my moan into perspective!

Condolences Baz, can't imagine what you're going through.

Posted

Sorry Baz. If it's some consolation it's something everyone will have to go through at some point. It must be worse when they're healthy. :(

My mate's mum had a brain haemorrhage in front of him. She was in hospital for a couple of months, up and down. I remember when he phoned me when she died and he was bawling his eyes out.

Sorry to hear that Baz. Sincere condolences. Must be a really shocking way to have news like that broken to you.
