The grumpy thread

Sounds like your estate had a decent team of builders. Balance is good, I've completely lost all balance and perspective with new build defects and warranty issues, got some mates who have copped so much BS from developers.

Car grumps seem easily sorted. Check out what Mr_Bo11ox went through. Sheer level of perseverance was really inspiring.

This sort of thing really makes me see red. These house builders use a bloody warranty as an instrument to dictate what people can and can't do to their own homes. I'm far less level headed than you by the sounds of it, I'd probably lose it, call them all cunts and tell them to roll up their bloody warranty and defects liability and shove it up their arse.

No different to cars etc. It makes sense as most people would just fuck it up & make it harder to fix.

If there are loads of classics there, why show some mk5 escrote & jap crap?

Posted

That escort looked as if it was fit for the bin when it was chopped in. Its easy to forget a lot of this stuff while rare was chopped in because it was old rubbish or had pending serious issues. I've no doubt there were a few that would have seen the road again but a lot would have been old sheds.

Do any of the "Classic" cars (or any cars for that matter) in scrappage lots get broken up? or do they all go straight to crusher?

Posted

Why would the government be paying rent to store scrappage cars? As far as I know the only government involvement was the policy and the subsidy.

I reckon some brain genius swept up some scrappage cars that might be good for export or parts then got overwhelmed with the numbers.

Good question. Why would they. They aren't sitting there free of cost though id guess. Better more green idea would have been to allow as much as possible to be recycled from the scrappage cars to keep others on the road. Surely that's green.

I'm going to go way over the top here, but this is grumpy old man thread, so I suppose I can make an arse of myself.

Mate of mine was told by the house builders if he changed the locks on his UPVC doors (ridiculously easy job for anyone who can manage lefty loosie, rightie tightie and general concept of lego bricks fitting together) he would invalidate the warranty. I'm not talking about someone fooking something up and claiming it be fixed on warranty, you fook it, you pay is fair enough policy IMHO.

My point is that warranty conditions, building regs (to a point) and general bureaucracy, in essence exists to serve the rule makers whilst inhibiting our personal freedoms. Pressuring us not to take sensible and prudent steps to be self sufficient and take control of our lives. Things fundamental to human dignity and self respect.

In a similar line, governments wank on and on about skills shortages, personal responsibility, back to basics, belt and braces bullshit, but treat people like children. The list of prohibitions grows and grows and the justification is you are too stupid to touch anything, you will fook it, it's too dangerous and you need protecting. Net result the national IQ slips a few points and people become oblivious to the technological world around them. I knew this Russian chap, who said to me the first thing he heard repeatedly when he came to England was "You're not allowed". Made me laugh but pretty much sums it up.

TBH I agree with you. There should be some sort of 'you fucked it, it's not covered' clause in such things.

It was never about the environment, it was about propping up consumer capitalism.

The American version of the scheme was even more brutal, they drained the engine oil and poured the automotive equivalent of Dignitas barbiturates into the sump, destroying the "dirty" engines.

Just had another knock from the police........

Yesterday morning, with minime en route to the local market. Dog in car........ I asked a couple of locals whose it was and where they were, how long the dog was in there. No clues or fucks given.

Only a couple of shops nearby so checked them, nothing known or admitted to.

Gave it 10mins by going to plod 'guarding/minding' the market a few hundred metres away.... less cares or fucks given......

Waited by car another while..... lost it. Forced window....... got dog a drink. Left him with bio shop 15m from the car.

Apparently locals just watching have dobbed me in as owner is apoplectic...... plod was ok though I think once I gave him the full rundown. He's checking with his compadre I spoke to him.

Cue - no recollection and me being made out to be a lying fucker. Luckily munchkin can back me up.

We'll see

People who do that to dogs should be locked in a hot car all day themselves.

Or in the hotbox like the Jap's used to do during the war. A few days bent double in a tin box in the sun.

You did the same as I would do, I saw one on Tesco carpark in an absolutely roasting car with no windows open and went to the security guard told him the car and reg if the owner wasn't there in 5 minutes to sort the dog out I'd break in, he was livid, put a call out and gave the owner some water to give the dog and gave out a verbal dressing down about dogs in hot cars good on him I thought

Fucking Persimmon.

Oh yes - Fuckers

No enforcement action over hedgerow removal

Persimmon Homes, the developer building on land off Hathern Road, breached planning permission by removing hedging earlier this year.

Coun Radford said: “It’s typical of the borough council, taking the easy route out and letting developers get away with it again and it’s us councillors that get the backlash as people say we’re doing nothing about it. We are but we get no support from officers.

“I’m not happy about it at all, to me developers just put two fingers up at planning conditions and do what they like.

“If it were you or I, they’d pounce on us, but because it’s a developer they get away with it.”

A Charnwood Borough Council spokesperson said told the Echo removing the hedgerow is not a criminal offence but it is a breach of planning permission.

They said: “The decision to take enforcement action is based on whether it is in the public interest and will vary from case to case.

“If there has been a breach of a planning permission, which will cause no significant harm to the surrounding area, then enforcement action is not appropriate.

They’ve fixed it. Idiot couldn’t do his water Lego properly and hadn’t connected the overflow at all! How people manage to breathe is beyond me.

Nevertheless, the plumbers that have done the remedial work have been very good. Would recommend. Pleasant, friendly and efficient.

An utterly trivial grump, I know, but how in the name of all that's unholy can washing machine manufacturers NOT manage to make their dial lettering impervious to washing liquid?

It's not just this one, the previous machine was every bit as bad. Pour a slap of Formil or whatever cheapo liquid into the drawer, or the stupid little ball dispenser, oops, bit of a drip, give it a quick wipe - oh look, IT'S GONE AND DISSOLVED THE FUCKING LETTERING. Repeat until it's completely illegible, and then accidentally shrink your good suit down so it only fits a Diddyman. Ask me how I know.

Lats time I needed a cooker, like fuck was I going to be paying nigh on a grand for a new one so I found a nice stainless finish cooker second hand for a couple of hundred coin. Got it home and gave it a little clean with cillit bang and every single bit of writing around all the knobs immediately fucked off. The gas rings are easy enough to figure out, but the oven control is like a fucking roulette wheel....oven, grill, convection, spinny thing, and fuck knows what other features and of course the temperature....all a total fucking mystery, and of course i cant find any pictures or the instructions or anything online.
