Mr A Lawrence Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 Mother in law is gravely ill in hospital. She's been on dialysis for the last 18 years but now it's stopped working so she's in the final stages of kidney failure. Palliative care have stopped her dialysis and are giving her Meds to keep her comfortable. Missus is in bit because she is such a fighter but this seems to be it. I've just recently lost my mum so I know exactly what she's going through. Sometimes life is so shit. taxi paul 1
xtriple Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 I are a dick.... Yesterday I fixed the back lights on the Astra estate, no brake or sidelight on nearside. I took the unit off and it was full of water.... literally, full! So I emptied and dried and then set about the very rusty bottom bulb holder (after extracting boken bulb bits with pliers) and cleaned and sanded, filed, adjusted, fitted new bulb and nothin that I did would make the brake light work. I actually had dirty hands - I was appalled! It wasn't until I got a random passer by to press the brake pedal that I discovered the brake light is the TOP bulb on this thing! One new bulb later, all working as it should. I spent a good hour faffing about with the bottom bulb holder cleaning all the rust out etc, what a twat! Eddie Honda, yellowperil, madrat and 2 others 5
Guest Hooli Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 That's reminded me of hours twisted in the seat with the lamp unit balanced at silly angles trying to fix the same sort of fault in years past. Including one car where if I put the lamp unit in the boot where I could see it, it worked. Fit it to the car properly & it didn't... xtriple 1

One new bulb later, all working as it should. I spent a good hour faffing about with the bottom bulb holder cleaning all the rust out etc, what a twat!I replaced the faulty ignition switch on mini me's E30 Baur yesterday. I used one from an E24, they're the same, but marginally different. I had to cut off a connector and solder the E30 one in place to match the E30 loom. I must have got the wires the wrong way round because when I started it up there were no rear lights at all. Brake lights were fine, indicators fine, but no rear lights. Bugger! So, I opened it all back up, desoldered the connection, remade it temporarily, the other way round and lo and behold,.... no rear lights. Bulbs were fine. Fuses? Both blown. Christ knows how long he's been running around with no rear lights. The check control was a bit intermittent too, sometimes giving a fault, sometimes not. The moral of the tale - don't assume the last bit you touched is necessarily the culprit. Always start from scratch and diagnose properly. Don't guess. hennabm and twosmoke300 2
dave21478 Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 Some fart-sniffer has keyed the door of the MGF with an 8 inch scratch down to the primer. Aye, cheers. This car attracts a weird amount of antagonism for some reason, as thats the third time its been keyed (different car parks in different towns each time) and on the road, people take stunningly dangerous risks as they simply MUST overtake and be in front of me no matter what. And no, I dont park or drive like a dick.

meggersdog Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 First world problems i know.I cut the grass in the back garden for the first time this year.Mowed over the top of atleast ten ant hills.Maybe I should start wearing a pin-stripe suit, carry a violin case and go on a few wacky races.Eight and a half charity bags of grass. There's one or two posted every week so might aswell make use of them. The old fella who lived nextdoor was fairly little so the hedge between the two houses is only about three feet high.If I was in the garden enjoying the weather or whatever he'd leave me alone.Only if I was gardening would he want a natter over the hedge.Anyway two years ago a new family moved in.I tried to grow the hedge for a bit of privacy before they moved in but being a housing association house the workers came along and cut it down while I was at work. The hedges the other two sides of their garden are over six feet tall but hey. The father of this family does a good impression of Dom Jolly every time he is on his mobile phone.(annoying)The mother does that higher pitch at the end of a sentence (errr) again annoying but one of the children is special needs. He screams his head off for twenty minutes or more when he doesn't get his own way. I can hear the whole family through the walls in every room of my house.I complained to the housing when they moved in as nobody wants a screaming kid as an alarm clock at ten to seven every flipping morning. Many others have grumbled about the noise but I don't think actually complained. I can't use my back garden as there is no privacy from nextdoor. I' ve seen it when there were builders over the road and it's happened to me twice. The little kid can't help it but his parents should do something to quieten him down.If the kid sees something he's not sure about like a stranger over the road or one over the hedge he starts off sounding like a clanger then if you look at him he just stands and screams and screams and screams. So I'm the one who goes inside. They've been out today so I cut the grass.Came back around 4.30 and the kid was screaming before 5pm.
AlabamaShrimp Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 It's sunny! So of course that means loud music and fuckwits barking at each other over it. You know what's easier and doesn't piss people off? Turn it fucking down then you can actually speak to each other and not get on your neighbours tits. Thing is we live in a triangle of houses with a lot of old people near by. Just what they wanted on a Saturday night utter shit 70s music. chodweaver, twosmoke300 and Angrydicky 3

It may look like the middle of nowhere, but it’s half a mile from j3 of the m3. This is me. I don’t care about online posting- I have cctv on the drive and armed police. meshking and AlabamaShrimp 2

Alfamale Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 AlfaFemale’s Mk3 MR2 has sat on the drive all winter doing nowt so decided today to get it fired up so she could take it out for a blast. Jumped it off my car, no problem. Pumped up tyres, no problem. Freed off pads from discs , no problem. Dropped the roof, pushed it down and put my bloody hand through the glass screen. Going to be a right ball ache to get fixed as it’s bonded to the fabric. Changing the whole frame from a scraper looks like needing half the car dismantling and can’t be arsed with that. Anyone know any car trimmers or soft top specialists in or around Sheffield?
madrat Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 Would post pics of the field we are caravaning on, next to Rutland Water, but no idea how to do it on phone, watched Virgin balloon go up earlier, just behind our van.
