Just been to the offie. Opened the big fridge door and lifted a slab of beer. A bottle of wine about 2 feet away from the beer fell of the wire shelf and smashed. Three more would have fallen if I hadn't caught them.

The wee doll behind the counter says "Breakages have to be paid for, but we'll let it go this time."

"That's good of you" I replied, "How about you don't overload the shelves in the first place, then they wouldn't bounce about when someone lifts something heavy off one of them?"

Despite the daftness of the egg situation, having worked for the national trust in the past, I can confirm that the level of political correctness within the organisation was at stupidity level 9 back then so one can only guess what it is like now..... doesn't stop me and MrsD being members and wandering around a nice old house and garden on a regular basis....

Fucking scumbag tennants.

A friend's rented house was abandoned last saturday by two utter twats. They left it unlocked, wreaked & owing about four months rent.

Since garages are absolutely not used to doing what we know as standard MOT patch repairs, it will firstly be difficult to find anyone willing to weld cars and the price will be hellish.

I see three results - increased sales of super-thick underseal to die-hard bodgers, a sudden influx of cars going to the scrapyard and an increase in sales chez Dacia/renault/pug etc etc.

Bad news, but on the other hand there may be a demand for someone who is handy with a welder and knows a bit about MOT patch repairs...

Am I the only one thinking that some clandestine AS France raids might be a reality later this year?

Sounds like a marketing opportunity for chicken wire, fibreglass jam and underseal!!

Fuck that. I dont work on other peoples cars anymore beyond the simplest of stuff for people I trust.

Cunts are never happy about something.

Well I booked my holiday for Normandy next month over the weekend. Tunnel booked too.

Sounds like there's a business opportunity for you there?

EDIT: I should have read the rest of the topic before copying Cort's suggestion.

The "quality" 2cv welding I've seen in France has been hilarious and alarming - depending on whether I need to travel in the car !

Pop riveting sheet steel across the floors has been popular in the past.

It is surprisingly hard to get consumables for a MIG welder here - everyone uses stick and thats fuck-all use on cars.

I collected an entire carrier bag of litter in the walk between car and house. All of 60 meters. Cigarette packets and bottles being the main ingredient, although there was also a till receipt - for cigarettes and a drink.

Why are people such shits with this sort of thing? Who cares so little for their environment?

Littering makes me fucking fizz.

There's an older fella with Downs who goes into our local deli at work and gets a caramel shortcake every morning. He takes it outside, removes it from the wee paper bag, stares you straight in the face, scrunches it up in front of his face and drops it. I would literally shout at him (been tempted before) but I don't want to be labelled as Andy the Bastard who shouts at the special needs folk in Barrhead.

Shout at him anyway.

They all want equal rights, well with that comes equal responsibilities.

Looked up some insurance pricing on the WilsonWilson roffle 106 as I plan on ditching the Civic and getting something smaller and cheaper, £700 a year to insure. Fuck. Fling in the details of the Civic, £700 year to insure. Double fuck.

Seems my Glasgow move has had the slightly detrimental effect of doubling all my insurance quotes, I expected a rise but not one quite so dramatic. The Dolly 1300 would be a more reasonable £350 but it's not fucking here, or functioning as a car...

When I first moved here full time, the roads were full of chod - everyone rolled in R4s, C15s, BXs, 309s 405s, CXs and less commonly Escorts and Novas and the like.....all very interesting stuff, with older stuff like Simcas and LNAs and the like still fairly common.

Then 2006 happened and the western world went to fuck, which I have various theories about, and over the years the masses moved to driving a leased Audi or a Peugeot something-oh-something....bland modern shit that you cant tell apart unless you read the boot badge. There are still small numbers of older cars to be seen, but numbers fall every year and I am usually sitting in the oldest car in view on the roads.

Sadly, these remaining older cars are going to take a big hit and probably disappear in greater numbers pretty soon. I was speaking to my usual CT tester today and apparently the CT inspection is changing at the end of the year to become quite severe against corrosion. Up till now corrosion of any kind up to and including gaping rot holes in the structure have merited nothing more than an advisory note, but new rules will mean that all holes will now fail the test. Note that I didnt say "all structural holes will fail the test". Its ALL holes, cracks or soft spots apart from rust on doors, boot and bonnet - anywhere else on the shell is a fail.

Since garages are absolutely not used to doing what we know as standard MOT patch repairs, it will firstly be difficult to find anyone willing to weld cars and the price will be hellish.

Adverts on the telly are currently offering 4K above book price on trade-ins by a lot of dealers.

The future is amorphous, boring monochrome blobs with swept-back teardrop shaped headlights, LED tail lights and bluetooth, and thats a fucking sad thing.

I will be interested to see how that turns out in reality.  I went to see a neighbour of my Ma's in France who was busy putting some fibreglass in a hole in the floor of his Vespa car (fabulous little 4 seater thing made in a factory in France).  I mentioned that it wouldn't pass a test in the UK and he laughed.

I imagine if it's anything like the rest of French business one has to do a thirteen year apprenticeship to be legally allowed to switch on a welder (I am not having a go at France - I love the place) so as you say it looks as though they will struggle.  On the other hand there seem to be just as many ways to dodge the regs as there are daft regs so who knows.

Sweden has very high taxes and very good public services. Sometimes I wish we would follow a similar model but I doubt any politician is going to run a campaign based on increasing taxation

I had the chance to go and live with family in Sweden four years ago.

Should have taken them up on it.

Made the mistake of selling some wheels on the VOC Forum.

There's only one thing worse than a group of P1800 owners bitching about how much their car's worth in this context: that you made a [small] profit on some wheels you bought to get you out of a desperate situation. I know. The biggest crime ever. Unspeakable. Sour, sanctimonious little twats. Mob rule, yo.

One particular member (lol) won't let it drop and doesn't see what he's done wrong. He also confuses 'fact' and 'opinion' more times than a UKIPper.

That'll be me walking away from the forum after 12 years, then.

Five years ago I didn't understand why people sacked forums off (yes, here included) and why people ended up weighing in cars out of frustration. That's happening tomorrow, incidentally, and I shall be documenting it in unstinting HD. Might as well get some satisfaction from the whole thing. Let's see how many 'wronged enthusiasts' crawl out of the woodwork, eh?

I'm sick to death of interacting with wilfully stupid morons, fed up of social media and more or less done with PEOPLE, full stop.

Mob rule is bullshit, and never, ever right.

Maybe if you were selling it. I could put a hitherto undiscovered barn find Miura on eBay and it'd sell for £2, the seller would turn up late and then complain I'd done them over.

Fucking comedians, aye. My tolerance has gone the same way as my sense of humour.

Yup. RIP, 605.

I might play The Cure's 'Between Days' out of a shit Bluetooth speaker as it's carted away.

The thought crossed my mind of weighing in the Xantia when I couldn't shift it.

Then I realised that it's still good at functioning as a car. Unlike an old Volvo with HGF. Not having a pop, just agreeing that weighing in out of frustration popped up in my mind too.

Please make sure to film it, with accompanying music. Also, post it on the VOC forums as your final post there.

I hate hate hate one-make forums. The worst I came across (sorry to the Omega lickers) was the OOF. Omega Owners Forum. They were incredibly unhelpful when I asked questions, and just responded with in-jokes instead. The bunch of twats didn't let me advertise my Omega for sale because I didn't have enough posts (and you needed something like 200-odd to advertise, which was seemingly impossible to achieve in any meaningful way because the place was so inactive).

Let that sink in. A forum specialising in one specific model of car didn't want the chance to buy another one of that specific model of car (a low mileage good condition one, at that). Duuurrr. Sold it to a joiner off Gumtree in the end, don't think he even owned a smart phone, let alone used internet forums.

In addition, I got a similar reaction on the French Car Forum to my Xantia for sale ad. Pedants picking holes in the advert over the most inane, inconsequential little things, but not showing any interest in the car. I just wanted to scream "are you going to fucking buy it or not?!" At least on here, the pointless shit posted in for sale ads is amusing.

I thought I'd join the Frontera forum as some bits are near impossible to get. The place was totally dead and completely unhelpful, I won't be going back in a hurry.

Whilst I agree with the general sentiment of your post and certainly have had similar experiences with inane, nit-picking forum members, I'll add a little insight from the "other side" on this point:

In fairness to them, I can understand the reasoning for such a rule as we do something similar on another forum that I help run.

The reasoning behind it is to help protect members against scammers and the like, because most of the would-be scammers aren't going to stick around to make x number of constructive posts or be a member for y number of weeks before advertising - they'll just move onto somewhere easier. Prior to implementing it, we'd had a few new users who'd advertised parts comparatively cheaply (but not suspiciously so), taken money of would be buyers (who perhaps should have been more cautious) and then failed to deliver. Often transpires after the event that the scammer has done similar on other forums and used false names and details.

I appreciate that's slightly harder to do with a car which needs collecting, but would be very easy to do on a roffle for example (and indeed why some forums ban them)

Obviously it has to be done in a sensible way though - a 200 post rule on a quiet forum isn't going to work however good the intention behind it.
