@DoctorRetro do you have a 205 haynes manual? I have a download of one I can send by PM. The carb setup in these is very comprehensive as it's one of the older versions before HBOL's repair was 'take it to authorised agent'

Wouldn't know where to start looking for a Haynes manual. 😜🤣

Sometimes you can strike it lucky and one is left in the car. Have you looked in the boot yet?

Starting a 'to do list' for the 205, as all old French cars need constant attention.

- Rear view mirror needs replacing. (ordered)

- Brake pedal travels a long way on first press.

- Handbrake has a lot of travel

- Heater fan noisy - bearing gone?

- Carb needs tuning, grumpy when cold. Flat spot even when warm.

- Boot doesn't lock

- Clock doesn't adjust

- Trip meter won't reset

-Battery / starter 'slow' when first starting.

- Wipers very slow

- Fan belt squeals.

I'll add more as I think of them.

To do list for Swift:

- Heating/demisting poor. (Missing heater flap/ arm.

- Battery weak

- Central locking fuse

- Petrol smell - getting worse, almost unbearable. Replaced hoses, front leak sorted.

- Low idle

- Front tyres - lethal in the wet 😳

- Parcel shelf missing.

- Petrol leak from filler pipe?

- Wipers a bit shit

- Indicator loose connection. - Fixed by bending contact out a bit.

Hadn’t spotted that! Some of those later editions left out a lot of the more complicated procedures included in the earlier prints; let me know if your copy doesn’t have carb setups and I’ll whizz over the pages

Should be a bunch of spare non locking bolts as well

Took alloys off as I'm going to refurb them. Put on the steels. Typically one bolt short, so will see if I have a spare in one of my many shit drawers 🤣

I kinda prefer it looking base spec.

Also found out why the Swift stinks of fuel. One of the clips was not put back in place on one of the fuel hoses, so was pissing out the return. Hoses were a bit worse for wear so changed them while I was there.

Yeah, I think the front leak was new development tbh. I can't find the source of the rear leak, there's so much crap been coated on everything under there, it's hard to tell.

The car is definitely growing on me, it's a nice enough drive, fizzes along merrily whether round the doors or blatting up the A130 (at 70mph of course, don't want a repeat of the Carina incident!)

My 205 always stank of fuel at the back.  I think it was the filler cap itself.

I took all the filler neck/ breather gubbins out of mine to look for splits, but found nothing.  The neck itself is plastic and unlikely to be faulty, but there are numerous rubber pipes, some small, some larger-bore that can and do perish.  Well worth checking!

It's the Suzuki that has the fuel smell. But still worth checking I guess.

When I went in for the MOT the 'vent pipe', back to the filler neck, was leaking.

Drop tank required to fix it but, as it was a chafing nick - not grotrot - he cut a slice out and inserted a metal shunt, clips either end.

It has deffo fixed it as I now get the 'pffummp' when unscrewing the cap... cos charcoal can!

Have no idea where to begin under here 🤦

Peugeot looks marginally better without wheel trims tbh, pity the steels don't match 😬

I will get round to doing the alloys at some point, but it's too miserable outside.

Did manage to fix the loose connection on the Suzuki indicator though, so I guess that's something.

Tweaked the carb a little on the 205, it's still not perfect.

Fucking insurance swindlers. Insurance renewal for the Swift due 8th Jan.

Renewal price - £338.

Go Compare best price - £280

Confused best price - £233

Why is it funny? All 3 prices are from my current insurer, First Central. 🤷🤦

Will get on the phone tomorrow.

Decided against fully refurbing the alloys, as two of them are badly corroded (there are 3 spares, but CBA to get them swapped), so just cleaned them up a bit and put some silver on, looks loads better IMHO.
