Dat's nice - hope the roof gets up quickly given the weather?
Enjoy the cruise home - don't forget obligatory* petrol station forecourt image with another car we can pick on in the background :-)

Nice! Roof down all the way home?

No I didn't fancy illegal motorway speeds with roof down :)

No pez shot. Because I forgot to take a pic :(

Mrs Cookie took the Saab out yesterday morning.

She bloody loves it and only nearly crashed once, uphill in 2nd, 50mph plus wheelspin achieved, may have ended up on wrong side of the road lol Hit a wet patch and road markings.

She grinned from the moment she pulled away. Said it was like she had driven one all her life :)

The jury is out on the loud drony backbox. She wants to experience it a bit more before she decides.

Now making a list of things to improve.

Both aerials, both front door window switches (Drivers is from a saloon, so doesn't drop when hood does and passenger switch not working).

Not going to buy anything yet, till Management has decided about the back box.

Liked for bringing a smile to her face, good news 😁

It's got one of the nicest clutches of any manual car I have driven. Very light and smooth, bites just right. My wife loved it.

So quick update

1. The Saab is up for sale due to wife's illness.

2. Mondeo has been dropped at garage for a powershite fluid service. Rather worried that it may end up permanently f*cked.

Update if / when the Mondeo makes it home this evening.

If it's fuc*ed then it's a new exhaust for the 'long term' Saab then😂

Although I am having to tighten my belt, I have seen a dream piece of chod on ebay.

Although it's crazy, I am contemplating a blind purchase, because its my dream piece of chod and worry about how to pay the bills later.

Luckily Mrs Cookie is so off her tits on Morphine and Oxy, she won't notice and I won't get a bollocking :)

Just got to garage.

They are just finishing, then taking for a test drive.

Nerve wracking.

Posted

Well its just left for test drive.

Reverse gear works :) as it has been reversed out of the garage.

No idea about the forward 6 gears yet.

Posted

So all forward gears work, which is a plus.

The unicorn jizz that came out of it was black, so I'm assuming its never had a change.

216 quid for the ATF change, which was a good price. Over half that price was the new unicorn jizz that ford use.

They did notice the crankshaft seal was weeping at the back though. That's a gearbox out job :(

Think I paid somewhere around £80 for the jizz plus £30 maybe for filter (which was a plastic piece of shit). Given the fannying about getting temps right and so on I'd probably charge A Normal 2 hours labour so that works out at £210 - so you've done OK I reckon.

Crank seal will last as long as the rest of the car... probably. Does it piss out onto anything important?

Mine is the box with no filter ! Not sure why Ford thought that was a good idea.

Re the Crank Seal - no idea if it will piss out onto anything important. Its 'slightly weeping', whatever that means.

They said 'keep an eye on it' - I don't even no where it is lol

Because I love the car, I will get it done. I figure it will be ok until the oil light comes on ;)

I'd wait until the powershift sharts itself, if you love the car that much then the box will be coming out in your ownership anyway 😉 then it'll only be another 10 minutes to do the crank seal

You probably already know this but anyway, if you do have issues in the future there's a clutch learn and something else learn (shift fork?) procedures in Foreskin.

You need an OBD2 Bluetooth thing, Foreskin for £5ish and a warmed-up box (and possibly at least half a tank of fuel).

When I did it on the Brokus, it involved revving the engine, and Mrs Grogee kept phoning me on the device I was using to run Foreskin to tell me it was too early on a Sunday morning for revving engines!

Nearly 10 days since the gearbox fluid change.

The box is still boxing as it should :)

In one of her lucid moments, the Mrs has said no to the dream car joining the fleet. To be fair she doesn't say no that often. She pointed out that if the Saab is going due to financial constraints, I probably shouldn't be buying another. Shes right and a timely reminder to me, that she needs a lesson in man maths.

New boots.

The CRV's front alloys were leaking about 5 psi per week and the Goodyear's were down to the wear markers. Steering was crap to the point I thought the Steering Rack may be reaching the end of its life. Wanted to see if new boots would help.

So time for new boots.

I have a set of CRV alloys in the shed in much better nick than those on the car, so pulled two out and gave them a wash down to remove a couple of hundred spiders.

Plenty of tread, but lots of cracking, which is why they were taken off a few years back, from Mrs Cookies old CRV. Only a year old when removed.

Off to the local tyre garage, to fit the new boots ordered through ASDA Tyres.

Budget couldn't stretch to Cross Climates, but could get these. Never had Primacy 3 before.

It stops better. It accelerates better. It corners better and the notchy steering is now smooth. So it wasn't the rack, but end of life tyres.

Its actually enjoyable to drive again - ok its an SUV, so its enjoyable for an SUV.

These seem really bloody good. I very much recommend.

The old alloys definitely need a refurb, if they are to be used again.

In other news, the Saab of quite a few shitters left the fleet and went north, where its now looked after by @mercedade, who is doing a fine job fettling and improving her.

Lovely chap, would sell to again :)

Plus, the Mondeo's powershite box is STILL working.

The Honda keeps Hondering. Still like it, now its got new front tyres.

Mondeo is still good. Engine has been sounding a bit more clattery than usual and its been putting a decent puff cloud of smoke under hard acceleration.

My daughter works in Central Bath and needs a lift to work every morning. On the way out of Bath, its uphill for a decent stretch, so I've been driving in 2nd gear at 3k revs, in hope it will clear some crap out and get it to regen.

I have now got forscan, but not used it yet, to check on regen status.

Today, I put in half a tank of vpower diesel. I swear that stuff is blended by wizards at Shell HQ. 1 min after pulling away, engine is quieter and it accelerates much better, not that it was shabby at accelerating before.

Getting very faint steering wheel wobble. Getting new tyres and a balance, didn't make it dissappear, so going to get it put in garage for a suspension and wheel bearing check, before long drive to Northumberland at end of October.

Mrs Cookie still can't drive due to the pain / serious level of meds. Her insurance policy ends in a couple of weeks and she has 10 yrs no claims.

I know that the system records this for all insurers to see, but if she doesn't drive for 2 or 3 yrs, I fear they will screw her out of her no claims.

So even though we don't need / probably can't really afford another car at the mo, I'm looking for a little, ulez compliant run around, to use for an insurance policy.

I should just transfer the CRV or Mondeo into her name, but that isn't very Autoshite.

Current favourite is Ford Fusion. 1. Because I have forscan and 2. No one likes them, so they are cheap cheaper. Also fancy a mk5 or mk6 Festa, because they are a hoot to drive.

Sounds like HMC’s Fiesta that he is selling would be perfect

Spoke to him. Turned the opportunity down. I would not be able to do it justice and give it the love it needs at the moment.
