I got a lift to college for 4 years from my tutor. His was an identical one but a C reg and it was 2 years old at the time. Very fond memories of it.

That's interesting.  About 15 years ago I got into an internet arguement with a bloke on mk2cav.com who had bought an unused shell  and was building a bitsa. From more than a few Cavs.  And fully intended to just transfer an identity from.a scrap mk2 cav.  I honestly thought he should perhaps ring the DVLA and ask the question nicely.  I honestly thought it needed to be a Q reg.

I think it depends on how much of the original car is left. New parts count as original but used parts don't.

I think most of the parts were second hand.

I had a 2.0iS (D985TFT). A hateful piece of shit that leaked form every orifice and rusted from every panel even the plastic  ones.

It would start when it wanted to not when i wanted it to.. It was only 4ish years old when i got it.

It looked like this one .That a google search brought up Autoshite Sierra 2.0is..

@xtriple, it is up for £6K. Difficult to judge the right price. I might try an auction when the weather perks up. Have put it on Passionford with no response, not even a smart comment. This is a more friendly forum.

@newpod, your Cavalier man needs to read up on the rules. I followed them very closely. You can't just screw random stuff onto a new shell. You might get away with it if you don't tell anyone of course but that's another matter.

A Ford dealer told me that years ago when reshells were more common, they would rivet the transit plate that comes with a new shell where the VIN number should be.  Would not get away with that now, though I suppose there might be a few still about.

I forgot to mention the new petrol tank and pump and all lines. I sealed the tank as the new ones aren't protected inside and rot in no time at all. I reckon the sealant really sticks to new tanks.

@sierraman, yes they were plastic. Easily replaced with alloys though. Rust wise, sad to say, the better Sierras were the WFO marked made by Ford Germany in Belgium. The Dagenham ones marked SFA rotted much worse. My original was a WFO. Don't like slagging off our factory, just saying how it is.

It may not be poor quality of workmanship that caused Dagenham bodies to rot more, but the quality of steel that was used.

Genk is further from the sea, too.

This may not be relevant.  I have no idea how salty the Thames estuary gets during a flood tide.

Anyhoo... ?

@artdjones yes I have heard something about cheap Russian steel being used.  No idea if it is true, or if it was the whole story.

GLWS. I think you’ll have a better chance of getting your price come the spring, or if you use a dealer to help you. My worry is that really good Sierras still sell around £4K - but I hope someone rips your arm off and gives it a good home.

It’s a great story and a lovely looking car. Thanks for sharing the story!

Shame I am not in a position to offer it a home, would be nice if it could stay on forum

My dad’s B reg Laser estate had those, until someone took a fancy to them!

There does not appear to be many 2.0is left.

I knew a lad who was in deep with the Escort Turbos. I'm sure he said D-reg were best avoided as the shells sat around waiting to be painted or something. Might be the same with Sierras?

D plate MK2 Sierras certainly suffered. Even by about 1997 you didn’t see many - but that might also be because they didn’t sell many MK2s as they ran out the previous model.

Amusingly enough I was fortunate enough to RACE one of these (several actually) with the backing/support of the mighty FoMoCo. Yes, I was one of the winners of the Ford Sierra challange all those many moons ago and had a hoot. The official winner was a guy called Adrian Crawford who sells Porsches etc but I used his spot (and name on occassion! :) ) as I came third out of 20, 000. Actually I came second but in the top six was a girl and positive discrimination bit me in the arse... go figure: an ugly geezer or a pretty girly for your promo shots?

They used to ruin front tyres in about three laps but otherwise were great fun to rag sensless and took it week after week.

I had a wonderful time and so have always had a warm and fuzzy place in my cold hard heart for the 2.0SI. Still preferred the XR4X4 when it came to spending my own cold hard cash.

I would love to buy yours but, 6K is a tad over budget at the present. Mainly cos I have nowhere to keep it and it's NOT the kind of car to leave outside on the road, now is it?

Being the equivalent of the youngest of 4 boys, getting your elder brothers socks (who got them from his older brother, who... well you get the idea) I ended up with a 2.3 diesel Mk1 (I think) D reg sierra (was D xxx ARP) in a puce violet colour.

My uncles friend bought it used and knackered. Sold it to my uncle who couldn’t get rid of it quickly enough. My Dad had it, then my Mum and as no one else in the family would go near it, finally me. Used to drive it from Weston Super Mare to Bristol every day for my holiday job. Struggled like hell up the hills and couldn’t get out of its own way, but had a stereo with a little joystick thing, which made it mostly okay...

It got sold off to someone in the village and had another MOTs worth of life before I think it got cubed. Had close to 150k on the clock, which wasn’t bad for its day.

Nice to see one without the obligatory skirts, whale tail and tiny engine. Hope you find a good home for it, though I think you will be sorry if you do sell it!
