I'm no longer on a train, now V8 wallet drain

I really shouldn't look at some of the threads on here. I don't really need another car and certainly not this one.

Until a few weeks ago I had never been to Scotland, today I'm heading there again, hopefully I shall be driving back this evening.

Excellent -a school day collection

Is it an Audi?

This bit of train is painful, it's an Arriva train where they forgot to put in any legroom for passengers. Still I'm only on it for another few hours until Crewe.

I recommend buying shares in petrol stations ready for my return trip.

Good man.  I'm on a collection train later in the day.

Do enjoy.

Oh really? I'll wave when you arrive then

Well this train is slightly better, I have room for my legs, the WiFi is rubbish though.

It's getting a bit late for coffee now.

Where's the car? Let me know if you need a hand and if it's in the central area.

I should be ok (I hope) I shall be over in Fairlie/Largs, probably the one crying by the petrol pump when I try to fill it up for the trip home.

Ha, I've just seen what it is on the other thread. Cheebus, your brave. Looking forward to reading about the drive home.

Harhar, this thread will soon have more pez shots than you can shake a rusty crossmember at. :-D

Glasgow achieved, now sitting waiting to depart for Fairlie, meeting vendor just after 4 so in plenty of time.

And now in Fairlie, in the pub. (Hadn't realised the station was a platform outside the village) Now just an hour to wait for the vendor to finish work and get here. Currently drinking espresso to set me up for the journey home. The shame of being in the pub and not having a quick one.

Chodspeed.

Unless you're repatriating a Volvo from The Holy Land.

It's a long way home, just got to first services on M74, over 7 hrs to get home, will probably stop for the night somewhere later. Hardly been over 50mph, 1500 rpm yet due to traffic. First fill up only £67.

I stalked it in the other thread and it does look like a nice example. Hope the long journey goes well.

Oi!  I'll have you know I've done track days and everything.

And no, it wasn't me who knocked over that cone.

Apparently it is traditional to stop at Tebay, so I have. About to eat some food and stick some petrol in. Not sure whether to believe the trip thing (haven't completely worked out how it works yet) but that says I'm averaging 30mpg (it must be lying) although so far I'm sitting at 70mph doing 2000rpm.

A V8 sitting at 70mph and doing 2000rpm will achieve remarkable fuel figures. And if you're stuck in a 50mph roadwork zone they get even happier. Unstressed engine, barely ticking over and yet generating enough power and torque to keep the momentum up...you're never late with a V8 and you are rarely a ball of stress when you arrive, either. :-D

When I used to frequent the 300C forum most of the Hemi owners reckoned on 30mpg on the motorway, Richard K , late of this parish was one of em.

My diesel would do 45mpg if I was very very careful on the motorway , but would rarely show more than 20 around town , so God knows what a V8 will be like.

The computers are quite accurate and have a hidden menu which tells you how much fuel is in each side of the tank and measures 0-60 times.

I could get mine down to about 7 seconds, your target should be 5!

Is this one of those V8 that can shutdown cylinders when cruising to save fuel?

Well so far the car is going better than I am, I'm knackered. Decided to stop for the night, currently at a Holiday Inn just off J15 of M6. I'm just not used to 5 am starts anymore.

Chodspeed for the rest of your journey tomorrow OP

Ace! What's the long term plan, does it need any fettling or is it just going to be an extravagant daily driver?

Ohhhhh that holiday in, end of the A500. You’re on the good(ish) side of stoke on Trent!
