Who buys these? Collectors - too new? Or do they go for occasional commercial use? It has a manual gb apparently - servoed or air assisted?

It is in an odd space as an historic vehicle - out of date but not old-fashioned. Styling is fresh-ish for a 40 yo vehicle.

I imagine the clutch will be air assisted.  Although if it's a Bedford 500 NA engine in that, you'll have several minutes between gear changes for your left leg to recover anyway.

Hopefully the scrap man

That bad?  They are asking 5k. I must say I would not fancy driving a manual gb coach that size.

That's got power steering and the gb isn't assisted. When I started in the late 70's we didn't have power steering on 36' coaches and some still still had vacuum assisted brakes instead of compressed air.

Even so, I've driven those, the less that survive the better !

That's an even rarer car than a GTi so why pretend it's exactly the same as a GTi ?

It hasn't got the GTi kit for a start, often mistaken as a clipper kit, different interior etc etc.

A nice cheap car in its own right to be fair.

Because it has the same engine and gearbox as a GTi hatch. It also has the MFA multifunction thingy. The GLi was the cabriolet equivalent to the GTi before the Mark 2 Golf came along. The body kitted cabrios did not appear until 1987.

A real beast when fully loaded with people and luggage too I bet.

25 years ago the local bus company here (private company but contracted to run scheduled bus services in north Norfolk) ran a very eclectic fleet.  One that occasionally ran on the service I used was an '80s Van Hool-bodied Bedford with a 500 non-turbo engine.  It looked nice and modern but when there was a stiff sou'westerly (which there often is in this part of the world), it wouldn't pull 6th gear on the flat.  Hopeless thing.

Nice. I always preferred my pd130 B6 Avants - they're up there with one of my favourite motors I've owned. The cabin on the B5 always felt a bit more spacious though, and was almost perfectly designed both aesthetically and ergonomically.

This is a nice bright looking old thing. Already had sills replaced but those arches may be hiding bigger issues. I had a late mk4 Flight but it was very basic with some dealer-style options  and the clattery 1.3 OHV (Kent?)- these earlier Flights look much nicer with the rev counter, graphics etc. Not sure if it's the same engine?
