Would there be any issues of legality with it being registered as a 1.0 litre, should it be stopped by police who give the car a going over?

I suppose it depends on what it is insured as. If the insurance company thought it was a one litre they would invalidate the insurance.

Yes. The registered keeper of a vehicle is REQUIRED to notify DVLA of such changes to the vehicle. Not doing so is an offence so may result in prosecution.

It's 'done a 1.5DCi' and needs an injector, but potentially cheap van for someone. We had a few of these in a previous job and they were actually quite a pleasant little thing and never gave any trouble, pootling round at 20mph everywhere.
