Hillman Minx on Facebook marketplace, Buntingford, Herts

Listed at £500 which seems cheap but says reasonable offers in the ad as below so not sure if it's actually £500 or not.

1955 Hillman Minx. All original condition. Daily driver pre-covid. New carburettor and new water pump. Few spare parts. Drive as is or restore. Reasonable offers as unable to give it the care it needs.

When Toyota launched the hot version of the Auris, the Corolla replacement, it had a Diesel engine.  The 180bhp 2.2 litre one used elsewhere in the range.

Being a modern turbo diesel you can take it for a remap and go to 210bhp for £250.  This one is even a cheery colour.

These Lexus diesels should be a brilliant idea.  Toyota reliability, diesel economy, even rear wheel drive yet not a BMW.

And yet the reliability record is absolutely appalling, like even NSU Ro80 owners are looking smug.  A shame.

I had that happen to a Multipla (flat battery) but the doors had locked themselves, the handbrake was on and the bonnet cable had sagged. Became an impenetrable fortress and was unceremoniously dragged onto a low loader.

I had the same with a car years ago, all we did was jack it up, jump lead on the starter motor, another to chassis which have its battery power. Not always possible of course.

306 diesel with lens flare.  Worth mentioning because it’s for sale in Port Talbot and it’s not exactly Barbados.

He says it’s a turbo diesel but I thought they all had an intercooler plonked on top of the engine?

It's an HDi, and they only put the 90hp version in the 306, which didn't have an intercooler. They still remap nicely to 120hp or so with no issues though.

The 110hp came with a front-mounted intercooler, but was only fitted to bigger cars. Those can see 140hp with a basic map.

What's that about 125 bhp? And an auto. Don't think its got traction control, looking at the blanks on the dash.

141 might horsepower apparently. 0-60 10.5 seconds according to Parkers but that sounds extremely optimistic.

There was a member on here years ago was selling a mega low mile one of these with the 2.2 but it had the sport interior in Glasgow. I went to see it and it had been sitting ourside and had 2 inches of water in the footwells and had gone seriously mouldy inside. It was too much for me and would probably have gone to the bin as so highly undesirable.
