Nice to see a 9000 with an engine the blancmange shell can actually cope with, rather than a 'proper Q car'  'tunned' Aero or Carlsson with prancing elk stickers and a fifth gear life measured in minutes.

I want to like 9000s but the fast ones are such raging shit dynamically I can't cope with them.
People only like them because they're quick, in a straight line,  for the pittance they're worth; had they driven anything with any kind of cohesion between the shell and engine they'd realise how hopeless this era of Saab is as a performance car, unless you just want to overtake everything off a slip road/the outside lane.  Provided the road is perfectly straight, level and well-surfaced, mind.

A shame, because of the rest of the package is pretty good, and I imagine a modestly-engined one makes a fine daily driver. They're an excellent camera platform too; I can stand up in the cargo bay of one with the tailgate open.

...er, not that I've done that, honestly.

[Cue 10,000 'Well I just completely changed the entire suspension and seam welded the shell of my 9000 Aero and it wasted Evos' posts.]

See also: Volvo 850/S/V70 to a slightly lesser extent. And yes, I own a T-5 Estate, and dear god it's shite on twisty roads.

Oh aye.

That's exactly why I bought my 9000 with the standard 2.0 in it. Honest. I totally knew all that beforehand.

Also, dare you to try standing up in the load area of mine with the tailgate open. You'll get a concussion pretty quickly due to me fitting Honda Civic struts in an attempt to get the boot to stay open. It didn't work. They were the first boot struts I found in the scrap yard that seemed the right length. I should try going back and finding the struts out of something a bit beefier...

I wouldn't be standing up in the boot of a stranger's car, it's a bit too familiar innit

Lot of talk of Q cars and Boxsters so let’s get back on message.  This looks fabulous.

Image may contain: car and outdoor

it’s even got a sexy steering wheel cover!

Image may contain: people sitting

That looks like a rather smashing place to sit.  It's even got the prestigious CATALYSER badge on the back which, along with the Lambda Sond grille badge, fascinated a younger Bornite.

If I had any amount of talent / resources / space that's the sort of thing I'd snap up and whang a totally unsuitable engine (read: XUD) into just for a laugh.

However I possess neither talent nor resources nor space. :D

Seem the odd car like this over the years. What's the script there? I'm guessing rather than super thick layers of paint, it's previously applied body filler that's been quite lobbed on?

Unfortunately, they haven't opened all those doors to flood it with water before taking it over the 'bridge.

Oh I don't know, 2.0 auto should go pretty well in that... admittedly the box might terminally shit itself without warning at any point  but I reckon I'd enjoy blezzing round in it till then

It's a Triumph, so expect to be chopping Captain 70 size holes by Xmas.

A coupe as well! Although as I remember, the saloon and coupe roof are interchangeable and just bolt on/off. Heralds always look like a clown car to me where every panel will just fall off over the first bump. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one with decent fit or even remotely decent panel fit.
