I'd have said £800 is fairly strong for a n/a diesel BX covered in nasty giffer tat. It's been for sale for aaaaaaages at a grand, presumably with no interest. If its not rotten it might be worth a punt but I'd be making a low-ball offer.

M52 in the E39, they aren't great around town but mid 30s on the motorway. Won't be helped by the weight but they aren't bad for a straight six petrol. 

 

A non turbo BX will be okay on fuel but yeah, as mentioned, it'll be slow. Not quite as relaxed on motorways but good fun on a nice bit of A road when wound up.

Will the fuel economy be as twatful as I imagine. It's the one thing putting my partner off. She does a 400 mile round trip once a week along with normal car duties.

Had the 323 engine in an E36 Touring. On board computer could be persuaded to sit around 30mpg in a normal town run, on a long stretch, I’d have thought a bit better than that and possibly 35ish?

I had an E39 540 that if 70mph was adhered to could do 28mpg on a motorway run. I usually got about 21, make of that what you will :)

No I saw it on Facebook though and was tempted. Big money round there so I bet it's been well maintained.

The interior and engine are lovely. Everything works. The body work lets it down badly. The wing where the bumper trim is missing is quite badly scraped. That is about as base as they come too!

Base ac, no steering wheel buttons, no bum warmers, no trip compy and cloth.

Impressive.

Show me an e39 that isn’t showing a few rust spots nowadays though.

Didn'y buy it. I'll show wor lass later. She's the main driver. If it was mint as the pictures in the ad kind of shown I would have snapped it up.

It does get a lot basier than this in an E39. Crank windows in the back, no AC at all, hubcaps, manual gearbox, no fog lights. You don't know how good you have it here.?
