That was on Classiccarsforsale last week for £1000 ono in Liverpool. Elderly owner retiring from driving. Another wantabe dealers got hold of it to flip a quick buck. No wonder it's so hard to find anything not over priced anymore.

I think prices are getting overinflated in general at the moment, just like the housing market. Might be a bit of a classic downturn coming. We're due a recession. Yours, pessimistically..

Maybe, but the market will always decide something's current value.  That Allegro, for example, was always going to be worth more than £1000..

I understand that the elderly aren't clued up on eBay etc, but even sticking it in a local auction (which is traditionally what folk would do) would have got them a more accurate price.

I struggle to get worked up about the prices of cars; if I can't afford something then that's not anyone else's fault other than my own.  Market forces dictate prices, it was ever thus.

The freer the market, the freer the people and all that...

Shows how out of touch I am - the idea of being able to buy an Allegro for £1,000 and then sell it on for a profit is completely beyond me.

It's like seeing fucked sherpas for sale with no mot for 2 grand . Who's going to buy that ?

My post earlier really had in mind the ever expanding market for barn finds, which in many cases will never see the road again and are only worth scrap money in truth, with some exceptions. Seems a bit of a gold rush to me, and they never end well.

'it can't have much wrong with it mechanically'

Sounds good, tell me more...

'The front calipers have been taken off'

But there's not much wrong with it mechanically?

'Needs 2 new discs'

But there's not much wrong with it mechanically?

'Spares and repairs serious problem with engine'

It's like going in to your great aunt's living room to find she's holding a rave.
