I thought that noise was the power steering pump. At least the S has the unbreakable 6 speed getrag gearbox, unlike our early cooper which has erm "the midlands box"

Must confess I'm actually the seller of that, as of today though that Rebel sold outside of ebay... For more than the opening bid. The buyer even came and inspected it today, He's paid and has taken quite a bit of it away. It is going to be restored as near to standard as the new owner can realistically achive. He's nuts in the best possible way, he drove down from Essex in a Dihatsu HIJET 1300 on LPG. Paied in cash and he drove home with a Rebel chassis tied to the roof.

Done almost no miles in the last 7 or 8 years - not always a good thing, although the low overall mileage could help. Depends if it's been used on salty roads in the last 2000 miles. Would prefer one with three times the mileage looking almost as good.
