eBay tat volume 3.

Reminds me of a Talbot Express camper I spotted once with sealed beams bodged in place of the original rectangular headlights. That wasn't a styling success either.

Funnily enough, until recently there was a yellow ex-AA Talbot Express I often saw around locally which had the same odd conversion.  It was around for years, I can't imagine finding the right replacement lights was any harder than making the round ones fit and would have looked a lot better!

Reference those Sunny estates. I worked with a guy who sold Nissans during the late 80s early 90s. Apparently, according to him, a load of new unregistered RHD models were discovered knocking about a storage area in Japan a few years after they went out of production. They were then shipped over and punted out alongside the new shape for a bargain price. He recalls that customers had trouble setting up insurance due to being way out of model year. I always wondered how much, if any, truth was in that. But they were well out of date.

I'm a little surprised that these don't pop up on the Autoshite radar more often.

It does seem exceptionally tidy and cheap, do these have any redeeming features whatsoever?

The fact it'll self grenade very shortly. Which, to be frank, is the best thing that could happen.

How about this big white diesel?  I don't know who was buying diesel executive cars in 1987 but I'm glad someone did.

This is another one of those cars where I can't help thinking that the saloon is completely pointless, along with the Volvo 240/740/940.  If you're going to have a car that big, why not fill in the space on the back and have all the extra space?

Cooincidentally, an old-school local dealer who often has some interesting cars in stock has a tidy H-reg saloon in white just like the one above but with a 2.0 petrol engine.  Having looked at it close up, it's gigantic so with a mere 2 litres at its disposal, presumably cannot get out of its own way.

There are other developments in the pipeline but I really liked the R-reg 323F I bought from Cavcraft last year, despite only owning it for less than a month.  This has been for sale for quite a while and is only 32 miles away.  It has pillarless doors and popup lights.  It's metallic beige.  It's got a beige interior.  Temptation indeed...

^^ Stepson had a 323 like this, on a J plate if i recall. £150 part - ex type thing from some bloke near Staines. We did a full circuit of the M25 that night.

Paint was as flat as week old piss, and the exhaust was like a doily.

Got wheeled into my garage Saturday morning, I got brought fags, fizzy pop and snacks on a regular basis, did a full service, gobbed the exhaust up, valeted inside and out, mopped the paint, emerged Sunday at 4pm with only 6 hours kip in the middle.

Probably the last time I did any work on a car that went completely to plan.

He smoked it about for 10 months, taught his wench to drive in it, then got £750 part ex against a Focus ST.

I guess one issue with it is tax, dirt cheap old 1.5s and 1.6s are never going to be too popular when you can usually get something much more powerful and not pay any more road tax on it.

I presume this is the result of it being exported and the Dutch folk taking the plates away, is it really ok to drive this??? Don't think so as it'll confuse ANPR, and it probably isn't technically registered anywhere... If you were pulled up it wouldn't help your case that it's not LHD any more...

The 2.0 ones aint that bad, mine was a 1.8 running on gas, that was pretty slow but not glacial!

The estates/avants are not as practical as you'd think, granted great for long loads, but rubbish for anything square or tall. The hatch opening tapers a lot towards the top making it difficult to get stuff in. I couldn't get a small 2 seat Ikea sofa in mine for example.

Yes - I used to think of the avant as a german FE victor estate.
