Probably blew it up shortly afterwards but hoped no one would notice.

Edit: Actually probably went to get the key out, got stuck, then broke it in the barrel and now it won't start.

I know, apparently a non-runner but who knows. The 2.2 Turbo 2 was a non-interference engine so this one hopefully would be as well.

Uncommon in Britain because our speed limits are x0, but common in America where speed limits are x5

There was a federal safety standard also briefly issues that mandated a maximum speed of 85 on speedos and the 55 be emphasised, this is evidently not affected but is similar. US speed limits also typically end with a five, not a zero like in Europe.

Yeah, stuff like this never does well at auctions. None of the 5 people in the UK who are into Dustbusters will be ready to buy one on that exact day. Someone still got a deal though.

It's a fascinating story. That and the fact it's somewhat the pinnacle of the K-car alone is enough for me to want it.

My dad’s dad bought one new and died in 1976. It was dark blue though and my parents had it. I didn’t like it as it had black vinyl seats which my four year old legs stuck to when it was hot.
