They have the usual lovely French car ride and decent grip once it's rolled on its side a bit. My old one used to do well over 50mpg on my suburban London commute and I once drove (very slowly) to Ashford in Kent and back on not much more than a gallon, for 70+ MPG. Someone GIB. ProgRocker 1

barrett Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 Look at this! It's a first-year model in an appealing colour and a low-ish spec. Must be all but extinct in the UK? Sadly it's a Cat N (whatever that is) and needs a fair bit of work to sort out, but wasn't at least somebody on here breaking a Mk1 Clio recently? I don't know why, really, but I'd love to see this thing saved. Look at those steels! phil_lihp Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 I'd forgotten they made them that early, that looks like a peach. Pretty sure it was on eBay a while back, maybe the buyer realised it needed more work than they thought.
RoadworkUK Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 That Clio is the exact combination of basic trim, unpopular colour, small engine, imperfect cosmetics and tarnished registration status that afflicts our 306, and which would have killed it years ago in the hands of most sane folk. I like it very much.
HillmanImp Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 I remember first seeing the Clio when we were on holiday in France when I was 13 or 14 before they were sold over here. I was taken aback by how small they were. They seemed much smaller than the Renault 5. There were a few of them about, I remember wondering why we didn't see them in the UK, but we did the following year. I also distinctly remember finding a lizard just after I saw my first one, picking it up and its tail coming off which scared the fucking shit out of me. Remspoor, gadgetgricey, Conrad D. I had one of those in a fetching grey that I bought for £700 in a posh part of London around 8 years ago. It was immaculate albeit slow, thirsty and wallowy in the corners. Yet it had this alluring charm to it. Sold it to a work colleague for a little bit more than I paid after retrofitting front fogs. Pretty easy as the wiring loom is already there.

There can't be much weight to those ally panels. LightBulbFun 1
