Invacar MK12 - New owner Mrs 6Cyl

Brave man but I think it's a great save!

Are there any kit-car manufacturers about where you are? All Super Seven copies have flat screens so anyone who can do that should certainly be able to help you out. I needed the service of one once when a drunken dentist fell out of my Vindicator on the way back from the pub and cracked the windscreen.

I do, but it would be very hard to get it down the side of the house!

I guess just removing the engine would be easier.

I'm aching all over today, dragging a 300kg invacar around isn't a normal activity...

Did something happen today? Yeah, I only spent the money for the likes ;-)

Genuinely, I'm really enthused at the moment. Let's hope that continues.

You whisked them up from some where?

Do not remove the ivy growth. It may fall apart a bit more.

I will now get my coat.

I think I'd need a rest day after winning the Internet tbh.

I think they'd be a divorce if I bought something like this :-)

Anyway, if the vin plate has rotted away, there's no engine number and a potential that even if the reg is found it's been scrapped what do they do to resolve reregister it? Could it just end up as a Q?

Posted

I think we need to try and get the year at least to get an appropriate plate.

There is an engine number however, which may help....

Hopefully the Invalid Carriage Register can help work out the reg number from that and the chassis number assuming it's stamped somewhere. I'd assume that the process then would be exactly the same as I did with TP. Fill in a V62 requesting a V5 with the appropriate details in and a covering letter explaining the situation including some photos of the vehicle showing that it's still intact, showing any identifying marks.

A V5 should then appear shortly after. The only headache I had was that the first two copies I sent in vanished into the aether somewhere between the DVLA's front gate and the relevant desk.

I can see Villiers Services unit from the back of my house - the garden backs onto their back wall!

If you need any help with stuff from there collecting etc, shout up. Happy to help if I can

Thanks guys, appreciated. I went over to the car this afternoon. When wet the VIN was legible, and here it is it you want to ring an Invacar...12c 1967...

That's a big plus... being able to read the serial number! Should make registration much more straightforward :)

Excellent. Hopefully the ICR should be able to track down the reg from that and you should be able to get the V5 easily enough then.

Woo! glad the vin plate is legible :) as others have said should be pretty trivial to get its original reg plate and apply for a V5 :)

also interesting to see its a Mk12c exactly like the brochure  (on one hand it would of been cool if it was 12E as thats the very last of the Mk12s, however its also cool that its a Mk12c  as the Mk12c is a purely invacar design without any influence from AC etc)

so 1967, means its either an E or F reg :)

BTW I was reading said brochure again, and I noticed it specifically mentions 12V head lamps, so I guess that awnsers the question a few pages back about what voltage the car is :)

thanks for the pics :) very interesting to see the controls up close, looks quite complicated! (certainly compared to a Model 70)

(glad to see the rear piece dangling off in the other pictures fits well :) its like a jigsaw puzzle only with more fibre glass matting and resin  )

only the model 70 was built jointly between ac and invacar, but ac did the development.all models of invacar prior to the model 70 were entirely greeves own design.

I've seen the years for the different iterations of MK12 listed somewhere, but I can't remember where, can you LBF?

its mentioned in the above post that the Mk12E has a front suspension design from AC :)

This is, indeed, a proper little jobbie ;)

Everything carefully dismantled, ebay / webbie mining of equivalent bits and then steady rebuild.

+1 on fibreglass fabbing... Should be the most interesting bit of the 'resurrection'

i will see if i can scan in all my mk12 bumpf at home for you

That would be massively appreciated, thank you.

I reckon this is the bulb holder that goes behind the brake light - I'm going to need them, as the one I removed is very rusty...but English parts bin experts may know better.

thanks, I'm just going to quote that here for posterity....

But anyway; as fans will note, there are six variants of the basic Invacar Mk 12, being Mk 12, (1960-63) Mk 12A (1963-66), Mk 12B ('66-'67) Mk 12C ('67-'68), Mk 12D ('68-'69) and the Mk 12E ('69-'71)

Correction: None of them move - YET.

There's quite a bit more going on on that control panel than I expected!

I think I might have a couple of those lamp holders floating around in the box of Invacar bits in the garage, can take a look next time I'm out there. Know one thing I've got in the spares box is a speedometer which looks to be a Mk 12 item...

Great that you've got the broken bit of the rear valance. Hadn't spotted that before...that makes that a massively easier repair than it otherwise would have been.

Watching this with interest. I wonder how long ago that was actually last used? Bearing in mind it probably wasn't driven into the yard and might have been laid up for a while beforehand.
