Norfolk: thank you for all the CFs! :)  Looks like the only way I'm going to get one now, is in pictures.

I can sell you a front grill if you want to start making your own CF

1969 is also the birth year of Mopar's "Fuselage Look", which, like the "Forward Look" of 1957 changed automotive architecture for years to come.

The second generation Holden Torana celebrates its 50th this year

It is regarded as the first proper Torana as the first generation was just a Vauxhall HB Viva with round headlamps.

The Harrier entered service in 1969, and two of them landed in Central London , just behind St Pancras.attachicon.gifimage.jpegattachicon.gifimage.jpeg

Ahh, the trans-Atlantic air race.

The NSU K70 was due to launch in 1969, but after the VW takeover the launch was canned and the VW K70 was launched in 1970, after VW had carried out rigorous development work consisting of changing all the badges.

BMC Australia also had a gawky 1500 hatchback launch in 1969, the Morris Nomad, based on the 1100:

Overshadowed by the later Holbay-engined GLS, the first Hot Hunter (although not officially a Hunter to begin with) launched at the Paris show in 1969.  It was intended to capitalize on the 1968 London-Sydney win.....

I wanted my Dad to buy one but apparently he didn't have enough money.

In 1969 the US of A proved that despite rumours to contrary, it can do subtle and classy when it comes to styling:

Though the K70 was launched in 1971?

NSU scheduled the press launch for March 1969, intending to show it at the 1969 Geneva Motor Show.

Prior to launch, rumors arose that Volkswagen would absorb NSU. Plans for the K70 launch were deferred at the last minute, with rumors that Volkswagen removed the K70 from NSU's show stand on the eve of the show. The NSU K70 was shown and advertised in Automobil Revue's 1969 Geneva Show yearbook, published in March 1969, with a note in the addenda stating that the K70 "will not be built for the time being" and will not be shown. Production started later in 1969 nevertheless and it was regularly available from 1970 to 1972.

Ah, that explains it. Britain didn't have RHD ones coming in until about 1971; and only the 90hp "L" and later the 100hp "LS" were available. The base 75hp was for mainland Europe only.

The K70 took so long to appear that all us school-kid VW enthusiasts were a bit "meh" upon its final arrival - we had after all seen it in Motor and Autocar for about two years - a lifetime when you are ten years old.   There was far more fuss made about the Passat being a "departure" for Volkswagen when that was introduced three years later or over the fact that the 411 had four doors when that came out!

It just occurred to me that the people who visited Woodstock are now miserable old sods.

Wasn't this effectively released in 1969 too?

Yes, same time as R12.

On a side note, 1969 was the year of the first PoSU visit to Romania

Also this started life in 1969, according to wikipedia:

How many 240Z's left I wonder.

A local pub landlord had a black P-reg 76 260Z for years. The chrome bumpers had rusted through and every so often he'd re-cover them in kitchen tin-foil, all carefully smoothed off and glued down.

Me. Turned already in fact.

To celebrate I must buy a car that features in this thread. I have no option.

Skizzer must do likewise.
