Anyone knows any good videos showing how to replace out turbo hoses?

Undo clips, pull hose off, slide new hose on, do up clips.

Nowt too it really.

Now would it be a stupid idea to buy this heap. I haven't got any old shit lying around the workshop for when I am not so busy so want something to mess about with. I don't expect to make anything out of getting it back on the road but would rather not chuck a load of money down the drain. Are Regals worth anything ? It is up for £600 but there is no way I would pay that for it.

They go for good money running. Think James from castle hill garage sold this one last year for about £900 ish, could be wrong. Looks like the buyer has not done much. Bits for my Rialto are cheap enough and easy to come by, not so sure about the Regals. I still would  :-D

I have decided to give it a miss. Lots of rot coming up in the mot history and then the seller tried the "I have got someone coming" game which always puts me off

The Regals and mk1 robins don't have a galvanised chassis so do like to rot a bit. Shame was quite looking forward to seeing it fixed up.

Depends if they are designed to stretch. A lot of cars these days seem to use stretch head bolts. I wouldn't risk it as I've heard of cases where the stretched bolt bottoms out in the hole - so either not enough "togetherness" or a sheared bolt results.

Does 27 year old country as these days? It's a Fiesta 950

I'll see what data comes through the obd first. I know speed doesn't.

You customise Torque to show which displays you want.

I think the Fiesta will be on 1950s technology.

I'm not sure a C15 will have a speed sensor to display data from as it's a cable speedo.

Posted

Do late C15s use a speedo cable? My elderly Berlingo has an electronic speedo.

The one C15 speedo cable I can find on eBay fits model years up to 2000 according to the listing.

Yes, it splits in the engine bay before going through the bulkhead.

I asked bub in another thread (I think) his has a cable & if memory serves it's the gears on the gearbox end of it that broke & mean he's got no speedo currently.

I would hope he would have a speedo soon, I gave him all of the bits, speedo drive, cables and a set of clocks.

Yes I will have a functioning speedo soon. I can take van out of action to do the jobs on it now I've got another vehicle to use. Mine is definitely all cable. It has a plug on top of the speedo housing too strangely but is definitely cable to the clocks. FOAD learnt a new function for washer pump that day too.

Will the starter motor on my K Series 216 Cabriolet be the same as other models with the same engine?

Looking for a second hand one if I can find one but searching for one from a Cab being broken is fruitless

Posted

I can't think of any reason why a starter off a cabriolet would be any different, So yeah, as long as its the same engine you'll be fine. TBH as long as its off the same type of engine you'll probably be fine too (Honda/K series etc)

Used to working on parts bin special modernish French stuff where being built on a Tuesday means it has 900 different parts :)

The French change brake parts depending on which way the wind was blowing because it all bolts on to the same hubs etc,

Stuff like starter motors take big changes to major castings, so they're very unlikely to change the fitment unless they really have to.

Fair one.

Still hoping that changing the positive lead to the starter will help - its pretty fucked looking. Already been through the earths.

Joy to work on compared with the aforementioned French shit I must say.

Why would coolant in a expansion bottle be cold? Radiator feels cool, temp gauge takes ages to move but usually sits at quarter unless in traffic then it goes to just under half, heaters work fine though. I'm thinking thermostat. Owner thought it was head gasket over a year ago but in 10k the situation hasn't changed. Any advice? Cheers

Sounds fine to me. Stop poking at it.

I am firmly of the opinion that everything under the bonnet should be left well the fuck alone as long as things are working normally....ie power output, heating etc and no fluids are being lost at a noticeably high rate.

camry has a lumpy idle.

it has new plugs, cleaned butterfly, idle control valve has been drenched in carb cleaner, maf has been drenched in electrical contact cleaner.

It still has a (slightly) lumpy idle so i've been prodding the maf with a multi meter.

I was expecting to get an output of about a volt at idle. It had about 0.2 of a volt (this is having piggy backed the centre pin (of 5) and was measured with engine idling.) Resistence between pins 4 and 5 was 3.8kohms, (expecting about 2.5) which seemed reasonable, but I know nothing of such things.

Strikes me the mafs dead if the output is so far off where it should be, but the car runs remarkably well, starts well, and has no mil. (i would have scanned for codes. but seem to have lost me code scanner). Or is it ok and i'm expecting wrong?

(eta it's only ever scraped through the emissions with multiple runs to get a pass)

Posted

Did I imagine that the way to test a MAF is to unplug it and if the car still runs the same the MAF was kippered?

Posted

That test doesn't always work . Depends if the ecu is programmed to compensate for missing sensors .

Had an early 1.0 corsa b that lead me a right merry dance last month for the exact same reason .

Posted

Oh - that's pertinant information.

I unplugged the maf when it was running and it stopped dead. wouldn't start with it disconnected.

Plugged it back in and service resumed.

My boss is talking about buying a lorry and getting me to drive it. What sort of time and money would it cost for me to get an HGV licence and CPC? It's for testing weighbridges so it would have be the full C+E.

Posted

It shouldn't cost you anything, if he's getting the lorry and wanting you to drive it for him, then he should pay for the lessons and test.

Anyway last time I look it was very expensive and I can't remember how long it took.

Scottish shiters: what exactly is a 'teuchter'?  Thanking you.

I won't be paying it, I was just wondering what sort of money would be involved. It seems that there is a 5 day intensive course locally for £850, which is less on both counts than I expected.

A teuchter is basically the Scottish equivalent of a bumpkin.

That doesn't seem to bad as I'm sure it was over a thousand about two years ago.

Never sure if intensive learning is better due to everything been thrown at you all at once but saying that it has to be better then only a few hours a week.
