Keep an eye on yourself over the next 48 hours dude.

I find it quite heartening that one can have a good smack in something small and 20 years old and still be able to drive home.

I’d not be patching it up personally but props to you if you fancy it.

83C - Glad you're Ok mate, cars can be replaced, people can't.

Real shame about the Micra :( I love these little things and was rubbing my hands in glee at the (very slim) prospect that this may one day join my fleet. Obviously that isn't going to happen now.

HarmonicCheezbuger from here might be interested in some bits, he has similarly aged and coloured Micra.

The floor mats looked like they came from a Nissan Qashqai?

I'd like to say thanks on behalf of Badgers as well, they appreciate your sacrifice

Yes I found them lying in a ditch by the side of the road!

No, it won’t be patched up. I think it performed very well but I wouldn’t like to say whether it is capable of withstanding the same again. The drivers door has definitely moved, tight at the bottom and miles out at the top, as well as moving back a few mm. I know it could just be the hinges, but even if the shell is straight (which I severely doubt), the shopping list runs to: new o/s headlight, o/s wing, washer bottle, new front wishbones, new o/s door, new o/s/f brake flexi (old one is damaged), there’s a grinding/rubbing noise that I haven’t diagnosed on the n/s/f, the slam panel is bent... those are just the bits I know about.

I've fixed worse mate....thems just battle scars. You aint had that wee car long enough for it to die! If the panels are bolt on i'd already be out stripping it ready for replacement....but i also get that it was bought for next to nothing an scrap will see you near break even. Just feel shit that you had less than 24hrs with the wee thing

Believe me, I feel a bit shit about it too! Thoroughly enjoyed the few hours I drove it. Thing is, I just cannot rationalise spending over £250 on parts for a £125 car (quick price check on eBay for new wishbones and s/hand panels, minor parts etc).

Interesting about the inner wing ripples, I couldn’t see any on the n/s so I assumed they were there because of the accident.

Better to pull any decent bits from this one and find another that hasn’t been subject to a kamikaze badger attack.

True. The beauty of buying at the shite end of the curve is that there is nothing to lose really. Im sure you wont be much out of pocket for this unfortunate event. Now had you bought something from a dealer at top money...and written it off within hours....im sure your arse would be hurting by now! Exactly the reason i intend to stick to throw away runners from now on! Just hope you walked away ok and dont have any after effects from it all

well thats a bit very shit indeed, still at least you are all right.

cars come and go, peeps, thinking of Dave-of-many-numbers are much more irreplacable.

me mam had a K11 for many, may years, and save the tickle of the welder on the back of the sills for its MOT a couple of times, it was an ace little thing.

it was replaced eventually by a K12, which in time passed to me. and which i got rid off as soom as i coulld cos i hated the bloody thing!

compared to the K11, the K12 was an utter turd....

The K12 Micra is a Nissault Clio!

The K12 Micra predated the Renault Clio based on that platform by years and uses Nissan petrol engines and gearboxes. They are still quite shit but that's Nissan's own doing.

Glad you are OK. None of that damage looks beyond repair, but as you say, how far do you go with a £125 car. Scrapyard would yield a haul of parts for next to no dosh. If that car was 6 months old it would have had its time again.

Brilliant, just read this at work and now have Weebls badger song going through my head. I'm here all afternoon too.

You should've just run the badger over, its not going to get far before it gets killed by a Tory.

shit the bed 83C, just picked up on this. that car held up well, hope you are still ok.

unpleasant business but the wee car did it's job, don't dwell in hindsight it doesnt help anyone.

I have had two accidents where I took evasive avoiding action and ended up being the only party hurt and out of pocket despite the original incident not being my fault. on each occasion I vowed to just pile into the bastard who pulled out in front of me next time. BUT human instinct will continue to override.

A chum of mine hit a sheep broadside on the cat n' fiddle during some late evening shenanigans. The impact with the unfortunate animal alone would have written off his spanking new 205 GTi but the sheep carcass flipped up and landed on the leading edge of the roof! the lad was lucky to get out and walk away.

Jumping Jeheebus, only just caught up with this. Glad you're all right mate.

Blimey, that K11 proved its cockroachiness did it not ? What a brave little soljer.

The Micra went over the bridge yesterday, no photos as it didn't feel appropriate. I did weigh up the pros and cons of trying to fix it but the costs (let alone the time) just didn't stack up. If I'd fixed it there would have been new front brake hoses and wishbones (pointless fitting scrapyard items that might well be knackered), secondhand panels and other bits. That's assuming I wouldn't have found anything nasty once it came apart, at which point it would have been much harder to tow to the scrapyard.

I'm ok, got checked out and got the all clear. One to chalk up to experience

Exactly this - I didn't really think when I saw the badger, self-preservation took over and I automatically tried to steer around it.

Cheers for the kind thoughts folks, it is much appreciated. Now, I'm off to the For Sale section....

That's the spirit - onwards and upwards.

Sad that you never got to enjoy the wee thing properly, but one thing we'll never be short of here is pogweaseled old bangers seeking a new home.

May hoardes of gilded angels guide you to your next chariot of delight...

Hitting the badger would probably still kill it TBH. They're hard bastards.

Sorry to hear that man and glad you're still in one piece. Car did its job. Good car.

When I was little, Pops slammed his anchors on to avoid a dog that ran into the road and catapulted me from the back seat into the windscreen, messing me up a bit. He said after that he would never swerve or put people in the car at risk for a loose animal. He hit a few pheasants after that but hapilly never a dog.

Im no hater of animals, but I follow the same principles now. If youve got more than two legs, get out of the way or youre getting run over. I wont risk my OH or passangers trying to avoid animals in the road. Unless its a fucking Stag, or cow, or giraffe thats likely to put the people in the car at even greater risk if you hit it.

I was the passenger in a MK2 golf that hit a badger at about 40mph; it stoved the front wheel into the footwell enough to trap my foot.

Badgers are somehere between platinum and osmium when it comes to density...

I’m at the ‘stupidly cheap’ end of the budget unfortunately. Mind you, a £250 Saab droptop advertised during some particularly shit weather is strangely appealing...
