S type 3 litre is it a real shite motor.

One of my work colleagues is into his Jags and has just spent over 20 grand on a new one and now has to get rid of his old one as the jaguar dealer won’t take his gorgeous blue S type in on part x as it’s old apparently being a 2002 car.

I’ve been in this S type and it’s been maintained regardless of cost a he has had the car for over 5 years and the 3 litre sounds amazing and it even has a leaper and is absolutely immaculate inside with all the toys such as beige leather and cruise control and looks lovely and rot free on the outside and the mileage isn’t bad at just 100000 which on a 3 litre petrol I imagine is just run in.

Last year he spent the best part of 2 grand on repairs and maintenance and said I could have it for £300 which sounds an absolute steal to me and the only problem he said he knows of is the sump is leaking slightly but the only reason I’m in two minds is I’ve no place on the drive for it and having 4 cars does seem a bit extravagant when I’m the only person that drives them especially as I commute by train.

So please try and talk me out of it or tell me some horror stories to put me off one or be mean and tell me I’m mad not to buy it.

I’ve got to admit after driving BMWs this feels like a real luxury car.

You won’t get me talking you out of it. Nice smooth luxo barge for next to nothing? Get it bought!

£300? It would scrap for at least £150, got to be the easiest decision ever, get it bought.

You’ve made the decision for me as he picks his new car today so on Monday if he still has the S type I will go for it.

Do you have his number? Could be swanning around in it tomorrow.........

The biggest killer of S-Types, regardless of how fastidiously it was maintained, is rust.

Not quite as bad as X-Types, but the sills go quite spectacularly. I spent ages trying to find one on Autotrader which had no advisories for anchorage-point corrosion that I could talk myself into buying and gave up when I found a 2006 3.0 V6 manual which had failed its last MOT on dangerous rot.

If you're getting it for THREE HUNDRED POUNDS then you should not give a flying fornicate about any issues it may have and just enjoy the waft!

I'll take a couple of randoms :)

My 3-litre (same engine etc) X350 XJ outside is on 277k and counting.

Doesn’t wuvvum have a lovely black one? I wanted to buy that but logistics didn’t work out.

I had a 4.0 V8 S Type , lovely car to drive but wouldn't pas a petrol station , for £300 drive it until something expensive breaks then stick it on ebay for 99p no reserve

Buy it and roffle it a few months. You cant* lose

Lovely cars to drive, feel really nice out on the road. Pretty sure they have a tendency to shit autoboxes after 100k though.

Get it bought, it'll roffle in about ten mins on here when you get bored

If a self rustproofing sump is all thats wrong, jump on the bastard. If it has knackered suspension/rust/cracked screen, still jump on it, but only count on using it till the ticket runs out. Then, break it & get twice your monies back. Shimplez

Buy it, enjoy it then run it till it blows up. Don’t be the fool who spends £2,000 to keep it tip top. Run the bastard till the oil is paste and stick the cheapest worst budget tyres on it.

Not any more - sold to stephen01 of this parish.  They are a lovely beast to drive as a 3-litre - plenty of poke and not too bad on fuel.  For 300 squid you'd have to be daft not to go for it.

Bugger me no don't do that! I want that engine when the body finished rusting away!

Had mine for about 5 weeks now, okay it's thirsty averaging 14-15 on my short runs! But I've mainly stopped looking at the fuel gauge now!

It's awesome, simple as that, love the v6, my first but 100% worth the wait!

£300? The only question should be when can I pick it up?

Even if it has glorious rot, its got to be worth £300 for the engine and ancillaries to pop into sonething old

They're a bugger to get running without the rest of the car attached and they used a different injection set up apparently to the 2.5 V6 mondeo which will run happily on a cut down loom.

Been doing a bit of study on these.

I'm not sure if you could cobble the injection system from a 3.0 Maverick onto one but there's possibly less to cut down on one of those looms.

Carthrottle has recently dropped the 3.0 into their Miata, the reasons why they chose the engine made me look at it in a different light, apparently they are quite decent engines!

Holy shit, that's eye-bleach material. Like putting wires and chrome wheelarch trim on a Lambo Countach. Someone deliberately did that.

Maybe they were taking the piss. It looks like something out of Viz.
