LightBulbFun's Invacar & general ramble thread, index on page 1, survivors lists on Pages 24/134 & AdgeCutler's Invacar Mk12 Restoration from Page 186 onwards, still harping on...

Figured you'd already have picked up on that one currently on eBay.  The body looks in sickeningly good shape compared to a lot of the ones which turned up a few years ago doesn't it.

Hopefully it won't just reappear on eBay having been nicely polished with a £5000 price tag in a couple of weeks...

Yeah its a bit dirty/gruby, but as you say its all intact, even has its window glass etc, should make for a relatively easy recommissioning :)

indeed hopefully it finds a good home! on the surface it looks to be an Invacar Model 70 Mark A, and there not many of those that I know to survive, we are talking about 3~, out of 80-90 known survivors,

obviously I want to get its details verified before I call it one or the other, as it would not be the first Invacar Model 70 Mark A I have come across thats actually just an AC with an identity crisis so to speak LOL

and as you say I am worried it might fall into the hands of a flipper,  however its been plastered all over social media now I have noticed, so I suspect it might go for strong money even without a polish! its already up to £700 and its still got 9 days to go

but again regardless of that just hope it finds a good home!

I have dropped the seller a message but not heard anything back so far sadly

Aye, we'll just have to wait and see.

It *looks* to have been stored in pretty dry conditions, so hopefully shouldn't be the worst recommissioning job.

Given how prices are all over the shop now it's almost impossible to even guess what it will go for!  A year or three back I'd probably have expected somewhere around a grand to 1500 (especially as it's in a relatively central location), but I've no clue nowadays!

well its already at £2050 now! although how much of that is genuine bids I do wonder, in that I am pretty sure the last one that showed up had a bunch of false bids on it (usual eBay)

I do think sadly they now pretty far out of shite territory

I have noticed the seller has updated the description somewhat

wonder if my message has been lost in the noise somewhat

how difficult (or is it impossible? ) is it to get that invacar (now at 2.2k!) registered/ on the road with no V5/reg plate?

easy peasy lemon squeezey*, I mean it *has* a Reg mark, and a DVLA record most likely, I just need to get its details to see which of the 18150 Model 70's made, it is :)

are you still looking for one? :)

*well I say that, but there IS an Invacar Model 70 I know of which so far has no found chassis number sadly

hah very cool! "Bright as the Daylight" (or Light Day if you wanna be literal about it) ironically Litchte tag is about the only bit I understood without the use of a translator, from having had many thorn tubes with their multi-lingual etches :) (It saved them having to make different etches for all the export markets!)

image.thumb.png.fb954f61d123d19dcd469fc928073c87.png

and their saying aint wrong! Osram makes/made some really quite impressive lightbulbs, for example this 18000W Metal halide lamp for use in the filming industry which outputs 1.6 Mega lumens! thats 1600000 lumens!

image.thumb.png.507a0c876ee1cfe4af4552bc2eff0f8b.png

sadly not my picture! I would love one for the collection, but given that these cost about £1500-£2000 new, I might be waiting a while before one shows up on eBay as surplus stock, for a tenner!

they also make a 24000W HMI lamp but that is a bare arc tube double ended design so while still massive it looks less visually impressive, although still neat in its own right

Ok now the DVLA have made it personal!

screencapture-vehicleenquiry-service-gov-uk-VehicleFound-2023-08-09-01_15_17.thumb.png.1f491042a268d3202a698b20b2c15614.png

at least it gives me a properly valid reason to call them about this issue now...

I just hope I can get through to someone sensiable about it, the DVLA does not exactly have an IT department hot line sadly, (I dont think?)

compared to before, which is how it should be

Screenshot 2022-09-25 at 11.12.38.png

of of all the manufacturers coded into the DVLA computer why is it Invacar they have to fuck up... (after also originally fucking up AC into AC (ELECTRIC) back in the late 80s)

Just needs Alteryx pointing at their dB for 10 minutes!

You've got to hope they still have someone working there who knows/would want to go and change it all! And not just sit with a copy of access 2003 and manually arrow down every attribute cell... 🤣

it should be really easy for them to sort out! which is how it got fucked up in the first place I suspect

in that most vehicle data is just sorted in coded form, and then decoded using a lookup table, so on the back end, REV's record will just have vehicle make: ZA

and then when the data is to be presented (on the DVLA's checker, or printed onto a V5 etc) its run through a look up table, and for ZA, should be "INVACAR" (because Invacars where in production when the DVLC system was setup, they did get a proper make code :) )

but I suspect someone has gone in to that Look up table, changed "INVACAR" to "INVACARE" now anytime any record that has the INVACAR Make code of ZA, will then decode back to INVACARE instead

all they need to do is go onto the lookup table and change INVACARE back to INVACAR how it should be

but the question can I get that through to the right person at the DVLA?

and I suspect this has happened because theres a company called Invacare, completely unrelated to Invacar, but they happen to make Mobility scooters, and I think someone at the DVLA was noticing all this "Invacare" registration applications coming in (because you do have to register a mobility scooter), and thought someone made a typo with the "INVACAR" make so stuck an E on the end, not realising that Invacar, very much is a vehicle manufacturer, and completely unrelated to Invacare!

I guess this is what they mean by someone trying to be smart about it!

I think the best route is probably a complaint. Usually it takes a complaint to make anything happen in a large bureaucracy.

I wonder if Invacare have registered any of their disability scooters and that has caused the change.

If LBF has his database of known registration numbers/VIN Numbers/what the first owner had for breakfast the day he took delivery could they be bombarded with a letter for every one?

Quck mailmerge, I'd chip a few quid in for postage if it would be a laugh and sit back and see what comes back...

I think thats exactly what I think has happened, Invacare should really have gotten their own make code, but I suspect someone thought "Invacar" was that sadly and "hijacked" it

also in the past I have noticed a fairly sudden up-tick of Invacars being registered/taxed in how many left etc, and I suspect thats all been Invacare mobility scooters being incorrectly registered under the Invacar make code

I at least have that on my side! no one can try and pull a fast one on me, and claim Invacar never existed on the DVLA or such

because I can literally give them the registration number of almost every single Invacar Model 70 produced :) and theres 8955 of the buggers!

I think ill start with a phone call, see how far that gets and then take it from there

You can do a webchat about V5's if you want to spend 45 mins talking to a bot (or a human being who isn't probably concerned about the ins and outs of the DB!)

https://contact.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles

its tempting to try that, but I worry that I wont be able to articulate/explain whats going on in text without looking like this guy

which is generally how I end up looking on this forum anyhow when trying to explain something deep in Invacar lore LOL

Flo is a 1953 Stanley Argson Electric

Ah I was expecting Flo to be a brand of some sort of temporary/trade insurance company cover or something like that.

No third party cover is 6 points on a licence. Really worth that hassle if a passing police cars anpr pings?

This is why vehicles don’t have fucking names. 😬

I refer to my Reliant as 'it,'  sometimes with a two letter prefix and other assorted four (+) letter encouragements if it threatens to force me to walk.

Simon and I are still having trouble registering RDE 346

no evidence, no registration

im using Flo anyway, I know it’s illegal but I don’t care, lock me up and throw away the key….  My main concern is that I can’t get insurance which is not fair on the third parties….. I drive carefully and slowly

You're joking of course...?
