Festival of the Unexceptional on Saturday 14th July 2018

Been accepted for Concours and whilst I haven't a hope of winning anything (though I can have a good crack at a decent '80s picnic I reckon) it should be fun.

It'll be a nice show and a bit of a light hearted fun. If I hadn't got picked then my toys would have stayed resolutely in the pram regardless and I'd be equally as happy having a wander around and taking in the awesomes.

I see the grand total of spectator tickets available for this event is an Ed Sheeran-rivalling 200!!!! yes 200. I think thats car passes rather than people numbers. What a fucking palaver, I was well up for this, but its just not happening now. How were the tickets even sold? Theres was nowt on the facebook page about it, except to say that they were all gone now.

Still 52 car spaces left, if you're still well up for this....

Don't think I've got any '80s leisurewear. Anyone got a spare double-breasted shiny suit? What did CX drivers usually wear in the '80s :?:  I can't remember.....  :?

I am thinking, as it is a FREE show, then just enjoy what you are given.

For those who have not got a pre-1990 car to book in or have not got a spectator parking pass, why not park at the Field of Dreams and somebody will give you a lift? I have 4 spare seats between two cars and that does not include anybody having to squash into the back of our Metro!

Ian gave the heads up, and I muscled in They "sold" very quickly (they were free).

Beware.

From the Hagerty website:

Free Classic Car Forward Parking

Limited to 400 vehicles for tickets with max two free people per car. Any additional people can attend the event, but will be charged £6.50 for access to Stowe House.

So it looks like you can't take a bunch of people in an ancient minibus and get them all in for nothing.

It's a kind offer but unless we have single occupant entrants who can take another body for free there may be charges involved.

Having said that, I think the show is well worth a £6.50 ticket, so if this suits feel free to park at the FoD and get a lift.

Ok point taken 2 free spare seats.

FOTU has updated its Facebook page to say that tomorrow at 17:30 an additional 30 spectator passes will be released.

They're gonna go very quick so you'll need your best eBay chod-buying trigger finger ready...

Overalls.

LHM stained ones.

Also, found the correct website now, it was a difficult process of following the correct link on here! The http://www.unexceptionalcars.co.uk/ link doesn't work. At all.

Booked in the chod section, as there were 66 spaces left.

A cavalcade from Cambridge to FotU has been mooted, with myself and SpottedLaurel beginning proceedings from the new town of Cambourne at about 8.00.

There’s another guy over on Twitter who I hope to convince to join us in his Volvo 340, is anyone else coming from East Angular? The route is A428/421 to Buckingham - but we can use the old 421 for added scenery and maintenance pauses.

Anyone coming from Norfolk/Suffolk May be glad of the comfort break, so let me know!

I would love to tag along if you are happy for me to follow at the back.

I will probably need to dump the 75 somewhere near to the event itself though, as they have run out of modern parking (that is if I don't end up buying something stupid at ACA next weekend).

Of course!

But do try to buy something next weekend. I’ll have a look at the catalogue later and make lots of wreckless suggestions sure to impact your future happiness and viability as a going concern.

You’re welcome.

I might tag along, but not sure whether I'll be on the road early enough to get to Cambourne for 8 - I've got a mate who wants to come along this year so got to pick him up first.  Having said that, the cruising speed of a 205 TD is quite brisk so I might catch you up anyway.

The important thing about this is there's a very convenient Morrisons that starts serving breakfast at 8am. I did the same last year, timings worked out perfectly for eating there then tootling off to Stowe.

Right...Lada is now back on the road, so will be coming. Complete with duct tape patches on the top of the wings as my hopes of having sorted that in time have evaporated.

Next up...Invacar, though time is going to be mega tight...

If you manage to get your Invacar sorted in time for FOTU I will be seriously fucking impressed.

I didn’t want to give away your penchant for fried food, but yes - FLYING START BREAKFASTS baby!

My chum Siôn is up for the Chodalcade; and it’d be great to get a meet up shot. There’s a separate overspill car park which we could use to congregate in.

If everything over the next few weeks goes to plan we've got a decent chance - I'll hopefully have a better plan of action soon, which will of course appear in the appropriate thread, don't want to drag this one too far off topic.

As it is, will have both the Xantia and Lada there at least. Both cars that were once a common sight (okay, the Activa was never exactly common, but the model as a whole was a common sight on the outside lane of motorways) but are now basically extinct.

What sort of roads are there between the FOD and Stowe?

I'd love to join in the chodalcade on the moped as long as it doesn't go faster than 30mph.

That could be arranged.

I don't want to put you off, but there is 3 miles of 60mph A road, then through Buckingham and 2.5 miles of fast country road before turning into Stowe.

Posted

Put the moped in the back of a suitable car until the fast bits are done?

Posted

I want to come and I think the 400 will be out of the body shop then. If I drive to the FoD can I reserve a seat in someones car?

That's fine, I needed facts rather than encouragement to do something silly!

The moped will have to go in the trailer. Still not sure if I'm camping, I'm waiting for a decision about domestic management...

There's still some chod parking tickets available - get it booked in and join the convoy.

Posted

I'm now booked in, it'll have to be the E34 as I won't have time to get either the Horizon or Solara MOT'd as I am snowed under for the next few weeks.

58 tickets remaining for the forward parking.
