Does sheets of 20 gauge and mig wire count as upgrades ? If so then I’ve done loads

Made the plates for the arch out of nice thick metal. Hopefully it will outlast the rest of the car, trailing arm mounts will see it off eventually.

rust is lighter than carbon fibre

My wife had one of the very early Mark 1s which after paying for it we found was an ex Hertz rental car.

Despite this it was one of the most reliable cars she has ever owned. Eventually replaced with a low mileage

Mark 1 Ebony which she had for 12 years in which time it had an alternator a steering rack and a radio in

addition to the normal wear and tear items. Sold without any sign of rust on it.

 

My last two cars have both been performance versions of the latest Focus and I have been more than happy with both

of them.

The (petrol) fuel pump 'access' is a right pain in the proverbial on the Focus. Should possibly put this on the road, it's currently sat on Mk2 Mondeo alloys (not the ones pictured) which don't fit it really, and they'd be better off on the Escort van

Its not that bad, 10 mins with the tin snips and your opening the big feck off ring that holds the pump in.

Or if you carry your balls in a wheelbarrow, use a 1mm slitting disc on the grinder with sheets covering anything that sparks can damage, cut your hatch nice and neat then weld a flange around the piece you've cut out and use it as an easy access door held on with self tapping bolts

Ahhh maybe ac was an option. All the ones I've seen 1.6 and above have had it.

This was a TDDI though, 90 throbbing horses, so perhaps putting an AC pump on the engine would just grind it to a halt. Maybe it was a Pez only feature.

Ive noticed the 3 doors don't seem to rot like the 5 doors. I had a nice 5 door diesel and it rotted out in the sills TO THE MAX. anyone else noticed this?

They look like a hateful place to be (despite all the raving reviews) so for me they have always been in the same bin as the zafira (despite some* raving reviews). If I ever was forced to own one of these I would have failed in life more than I have already. That's my opinion on this open public forum.

You have obviously never owned a vectra c.

Certainly the Ebony three door we had showed no signs of rot at all and it was 13 years old when we sold it. The guy that bought it said it

was the best Focus he had seen and he had been looking for some time.

 

All the hatches have a very unhelpful anti theft device in the sense that after two or three years of two different metals reacting with one another

the rear number plates require a thermal lance to remove the screws that hold the plate on. The new ones are still this way now with steel screws going

into what appears to be little aluminium blocks which makes a 30 second job an hour and a half.

Some parts are practically impossible to obtain as well.

 

It just wouldn't be summer to me though without those sweltering evenings sanding, filling, grinding, undersealing some old Ford, then spending the days after with no fingerprints from all the filler you've had on your hands.
