What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Driving along the A120 towards Stansted airport this morning I noticed a motorbike coming up pretty fast (I am doing 70 mph). A few seconds later a fully dressed Harley Davidson (not sure of the exact model) comes flying past, with hardly a sound from the exhausts. Never seen (or heard) that before from an HD.

I was off out to do some shopping earlier and found myself behind a shonky zafira I glimpsed the sticker in the rear window and thought it said cavcraft, i started laughing.

Have been watching all the build up to the fa cup and been really looking forward to watching it.

In the end this kept egging me on from outside to just go and give it some.

So I did.

My mate had two old upright pianos a few years ago. He cannibalised one for parts and was wanting to throw another one away.

For me there was only one option for an unwanted piano. It was to put it in the back of a van, drive to somewhere with a large cliff, wait for it to get dark, cover it in petrol, light it and push it off the cliff to a firey fate below.

Sadly my mate has absolutely no vision, disagreed and gave it to some bloke from Lawnswood. Idiot.

For proper use of pianos, see this vid

I have just spoken to the vendor of my most recent ebay purchase, and yes I am grinning.

I mentioned I would come down to Leics by train tomorrow (about 50 miles or so) and asked him how far from the station he was. He told me not to bother as trains can be expensive and unreliable so he would come and pick me up, where did I live? He shall be collecting me at around mid-day tomorrow to take me to my new car.

I'm excited, I've never driven a Tipo before, I currently own 2 cars based on the Tipo platform, but this is to be my first Tipo ... I shall start a thread for it in the morning .... Oh fuck, where am I going to put the car?

He sounds like a gent. Tipo TDs are supposed to be a really good drive.

You can put the car in my driveway, cheers.

Didn't UKIP field a candidate in the recent elections with the unfortunate name Wayne Kerr?

Wayne King is a real musician, from the USA of course;

Look-no hands!

I've found I can tune it using my brake adjuster spanner

Does that mean you can use the piano tuning spanner to adjust your brakes? Will they squeak in tune?!

He can't, a blind man has to come round twice a year to adjust the brakes.

A little late, but the new vicar( John ) at St Margaret's in Wrexham where my grandmother's service was held on Wednesday has a MG ZTT (75 tourer) with the reg. JxxxREV.

He's a member of camra, and a long distance cyclist too. There's also something about him that a. Reminded me of billy Bob Thornton in Fargo, and b. Made my brother in law think of one of the priests on the make in Father Ted.

post-17633-0-96026500-1410710959.jpgI took this pic at saltburn hillclimb last year and posted it and a few others on here, so I was pleased to follow this out of the estate where I live today. A friend of mine who is a bit of Yank and rod perv lives on the road it was coming from so I'll have to pay a call, I don't believe it's a coincidence.

Anyone any thoughts what the shell or engine are?

Dickhead landlord has sent bigger list of stuff that is wrong with the house. Apparently the fact we had a bulb go and couldn't work out how to replace it so left him a pack of bulbs is utterly unacceptable.

Off to dispute resolution so that grown ups can laugh at his idiocy and tell him what a prick he is*

He wants new stuff where as they depreciate everything, so his old carpets are pretty much worthless.

* may not happen.

I loved the two Tipos I had...

A 1989 (G) 1.6 DGT and its replacement, a 1993 (K) 1.9 TD... The TD was a Flying machine :-D :-D ...Both now deceased though :-(

2 years. Two downstairs carpets, replaced one as dog dug a hole in it, which with hindsight we shouldn't have as we would only be liable for % of replacement (but wanted to do right thing)

Other was professionally cleaned which is what adjudication expects.

Vin, I was gonna hit you up for some info on the TD if possible:

Are the TDs tunable for more power/smoke? and do you know what the pump is? Bosch VE I read somewhere.

I don't really know, Mr S. My TD left me in 2003 and I never really had any reason to investigate that aspect of the mechanicals. It might well be a Bosch come to think of it...

I've still got a few boxes of Tipo bits and pieces you can have, gratis. I will have a look to see what there is...

i think that hot rod is based on a rover 12, though i may be wrong.

i've seen it round and about at some local shows before, i'm glad it is still knocking about.

Was sitting in a tea shop this afternoon with MrsN and two offspring , parked outside the window was a scabby Mk1 Focus . On sitting down , I was amazed to find them discussing what a good idea it was to have a pair of chrome rings attached to the bonnet so that one could clip a dog lead to it in a carpark or picnic situation .

I was pissing myself laughing as I explained what bonnet pins actually did. To be fair I haven't seen many in the last 20 years or so.

Having Googled it Rover 12 looks a good shot, though I'm sure only the rollcage holds it together!

It is a Bosch VE according to biomotors. You can tune almost any old diesel with a mechanical Bosch pump using the guides linked here.

Thx LP, much appreciated.

Bosch VE, that's the same as my VW Bora innit?

Posted

It's a VP30 or 37(?) in the Bora, a similar pump mechanically but with electronic fuelling and boost compensation.

A couple of years or so ago I remember posting something about a big black 70's Mercedes fitted with a rotary engine. I'm sure it was for sale. Today I passed a big black Mercedes with huge ugly wheels on it and heard it accelerate away, sounding like a noisy Mazda Rotary.

Must be the same one !

Presumably the bits left over from a Merc engine into Mazda swap!
