After trawling Ebay for a few weeks I now have a 2nd hand Clarke table saw, a Performance Pro pillar drill, and a Clarke bench polisher/grinder. All cheaper brands but I'd no budget so it will do for now.

I've stripped and painted the bits of the saw that were a bit rusted and have a new blade in it. The drill was still boxed just never used by an old gent and I used a 15% off code to spoil myself with a new grinder and polishing set from Machine Mart.

Just need a garage/workshop to put them in now.

The saw is so I can buy wood in 8x4 foot sheets rather than get molested because it's been cut smaller and is more expensive. The polisher is to use on some aluminium tubing for a project and the drill to drill a bit out of the tubing without it being wonky.

Fraud maybe, but I wouldn't fancy your chances of standing outside the Shell garage in Audlem high street, dressed as a pair of bollocks with a 'Brazilian' and inviting kids to touch you lasting too long.

My Dad had been diagnosed with suspected (90% likely) bowel cancer a few weeks back, but had a biopsy last week as final confirmation before the planned surgery in the next couple of weeks. The results have come back today, and it's not the big C but scar tissue from diverticular disease damage. So I'm having a midweek drink to celebrate :-D

Followed an MG6 on the way home from work today.  Locally registered too, so presumably not a fleet car.

Honeymoon photos of the east coast from 1939 before the war. they are simply wonderful.

These photos are delightful, and I love all the poorly thought out nostalgia in the comments. "Why can't England be like this NOW?" posted under photos taken a few days before a half decade long war by a man who wouldn't see that war out because he'd die of TB, of a man who couldn't fight in that war because he also had TB, and there aren't even Flakes in those ice creams.

Why is buster gonad wearing tights on his arms?

As for it being brazil thats bollocks (pardon the pun) this photo was taken at shitefest.

Hmmmm... Talking bollocks. Maybe as useful a picture as the 'horse and train' one!

Edit. Although the child alongside is hardly PC.

I suppose that if you dressed up as a huge scrotum with a face, then tights on your arms would be mandatory.

Agree. England should be like it was in the Seventies, when Rovers were brown with orange interiors, and there was this wonderful totally artificial tasting strawberry ice cream that they don't make anymore. And there was Space Invaders and Tetris in the arcades in Margate and there were erasers with a Union Flag on them, and every half hour one had to change direction in the skate ring on the pier, so it doesn't sink into the sand.

Besides, York still looks the same from here.

MOT related grin.

Mrs Beard took the Accord for an MOT which it failed on several things. The garage also does repairs.

I took the car to another MOT place and it passed. Same day. They do not do repairs, only MOT's.

Connected? I think so.

As failure is down to the discretion of the tester, do some testing stations actually instruct the testers to be more stringent? Main dealers especially?

Posted

Speaking of vehicle testing, my mate's Volvo S80 failed the uber-strict Northern Ireland PSV this morning, on a "loose handbrake" (mate's words). I nipped up the wee nut under the gaiter so it only does 4 clicks instead of 7. Job jobbed. They passed it this afternoon. in under a minute.

I now have a nice bottle of Scotch.

I'm with Tayne on this one, take it somewhere that doesn't do repairs or a tyre/exhaust place can be good, though obviously not K***-F*t.

Another rule of thumb I swear by is if you take it to a garage and it fails the MOT, always get another garage to do the repairs, you'd be amazed at the things that aren't actually wrong at all.

One thing the French have got right - testing stations only do testing, never repairs, so its not in their interest to fail stuff for speculative repair profits.

In other news, I bought a load of PVC pipes today and strapped them down in the back of the pickup with the ends poking a little over the side edge of the bed. Sounded like King Kong was playing the pan-pipes behind me all the way home.

This^

Or tell the MOT test station before the test that you always get repairs carried out by a friend etc.

Another ploy with MOTs is to own a car that the tester doesn't want to work on. 2CVs and BXs usually do the trick.
