What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

These guys. I've got to say they seemed really sound, the could have totally bummed me on those wheel bearings as I didn't know any better but they didn't.

I think the guy worked for taggarts then set up as a independant. The main guy's called Douglas and really seems to know his stuff. He had stuff from older X300's to S-Types and new XJ's in.

Watching "State of Play" on Drama:

Woman: "Got him. He drives a red BMW, M3, private plate DFO 25Y"

Man: "So, not a wanker at all, then"

Consused.com Brian adverts.

I like the latest one which is a continuation from the #YOLO ICE install wanker.

This one sees him in the same car park full of early 00's looking barried toss, where he says he has run the details of their sensible 1.2 litre hatchbacks through his system.

I love the irony.

"Solids." *Rolling burnout as he pulls away*

If we do reach a deal, i shall have a third party escrow service hold the funds until both parties are happy.

I am told there is an additional $5M USD on offer if my agent handles things to satsisfaction.

Watching the old BBC adaptation of 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy' with Alec Guinness - absolutely brilliant viewing with plenty of chod to admire and I cannot think of much on TV in recent years that can hold a candle to this. The recent film remake with Gary Oldman was decent, but you cannot beat the original. It has aged well.

2 grins today:

I sent a message to the seller of the of knackered caliper (see the GOM thread) asking for a refund, not really expecting a reply... got a full refund, inc. postage.

V****a passed it's MOT today, just advisories on a front anti roll bar link (which I had already replaced after it was advised last time...) and the front tyres wearing on the outsides.

So, 2 weeks ago I got tugged at a checkpoint off the A55 and given a 14-day notice for having balding front tyres and only one front fog (yes, I should've pointed out that wasn't an MOT issue but I technically should have got 6 points and a fine for the tyres so I didn't complain). Being a procrastinating slacker, I left it until 2 days ago before trying to actually sort either issue out.

So, grins are: being quoted £110 for two budget tyres, then finding two virtually mint part-worns for £40..... driving straight into a garage who boshed them on without question..... my local tester back-dating his signature on the notice so I don't get fined..... said tester presenting me with 15 litres of unwanted veg oil, gratis :D

Today was a good day :D

I recon that and the Tom Baker Dr Who story 'Genesis of the Daleks' are probably two of the best things the BBC have ever made. Total classics.

I'm not even a big fan of Dr Who (the new ones are gash).

Pistonheads is great :)

Do you think I am wrong for taking my daughter out in a 2 seater (in car seat, airbag disconnected) if I have a 4 seater available?

No offence, its not personal, but I do yes.

In fact, if you did not have a 4 seater available, I would say its wrong to keep the 2 seater instead of trade it in for a family car

From a 'Taggart'. Which always makes me grin. Some of the best chod-chases EVA.

He does, doesn't he!  Weirdly, that actually was useful, the sunroof blind on my 220 rattles like mad when it's open, they showed how to fix that problem on 800s with cork pads.

Maybe it's wrong that I watch that sort of thing for entertainment.
I must say it must be pretty frustrating for a company when they have to remind dealers to check fuses and batteries before replacing something that's not working!

^ What a machine. My Aunt Maureen knocked over a red telephone box with a P6. Embarrassing, as my Uncle Bob was one of the head men at Post Office Telephones at the time.

Just wondering if there is some sort of cosmic law that dictates Autoshite dress sense.

The more cars I end up* owning the scruffier I look. Are these things related?

What? So your tyres were below the 1.6mm on the centre 3/4's then?  And how is one front fog an issue? I've had a broken one on my Mondeo for 5 years and never given it a thought, lots of cars don't even have them fitted.

No, the tyres were almost bald on the edges but fine in the middle. I didn't measure the extent but I reckon the centre 3/4 might have been OK. I was aware that they needed changing asap, but hadn't got round to it   In fact, ever since I bought the car, one of the (directional) front tyres has been on backwards and bugging the hell out of me, so at least I can stop (OCD) stressing about that

I know I should have argued the front fog (my tester couldn't believe they'd listed it as a defect, and confirmed that he never tests them) but on the day in question I had a hundred things to do, and couldn't be arsed for the sake of one bulb.

Something to make you feel old - the Rover P6 is 50...

We had the 50th anniversary celebration in July, the month it was launched in 1963.

Who wants to see pictures?

Posted

Me! Me! Me! I do!

Please... I can't actually believe the P6 is 50. It's like the car of tomorrow but yesterday.

Then again, Concorde first flew in 1969...

The one at Coughton Court Junkman? I was there! As was Glover of this parish. It was a fabulous event.

Excellent ! This is the beginning of a downward spiral, which will allow you to amass an enviable fleet of decrepit cars as you progressively transform to an Edmund Trebus type character ! Eventually, your family will disown you and your neighbours will alert the mental health services. When that time arrives, you will know you have become an Autoshite icon !

Great stuff ! As I've said before, P6s are wonderful but I could never buy a car that has such huge potential to financially ruin me (see also : DS).

Lovely photos Junkman. Is the convertible (3rd photo) factory spec, home made or Crayford jobbie.
