Spent an enjoyable evening yesterday at the local banger auction. Managed to take a few piccies inbetween bouts of laughter.

Looked tidy from a distance but something not right with the panel gaps on the tailgate!

Gutted I couldn't make it Wazzlord, give me mire notice next time please. Time we bought something next time I reckon, but would suggest the stupid price on that Renault will be because Pingu himself probably owns it, he's notorious for that.

X reg! :shock::shock::shock:

KA's, what do they make them from??? Is it 0.3mm russian d grade steel?

Are you up for a mid-week Ewloe trip to (RHD Mercury) Cougartown?

I work in a care home, we have 2 minibuses, a Vauxhall Movano and a Merc Sprinter. One of the activity co-ordinators was flapping around this afternoon as she was taking a trip out and couldn't find the Merc key, so I got the spare and gave it to her. A minute later she returned saying the battery in the key must be flat, as it wouldn't unlock. Someone asked if was already unlocked, no she said, I've tried the door. Cue more flapping as someone showed her how to get the actual 'key' out of the fob to unlock it manualy. She asked me to go out to the bus with her, at which point I spotted the problem... someone had parked the Movano where the Merc usualy is, and she hadn't noticed...

Got 100 'mixed' cassettes from Freecycle on the way home from work today. First one I lobbed in was a class old dancey/slightly cheesey quaver-ish thing and it's farking ace!

Hi, It's great to see a DAF that I worked on.I did the PDI and made up the number plates. We had a jig which we used to punch out the holes in the plates for the various letters and numbers, put the letters and numbers on with spring clips from the back.It took quite a while to do a set of plates, unlike today with the computerised system.I hope it goes to a good home. starider.

Put the DAF on the Owners Club forum and got this reply. How cool is that? This guy has known the car longer than it has been on the road in the UK! Cool as milk eh?

Quite. Listened to it on 5Live, seemed a bit of a mental game.

Interesting to see what team they field in the final...

I think we just got our £50 million's worth.........

I honestly still can't believe it. Think Barca had something like 73% of the posession, but Chelsea were just superb.

It peaked at 75% in the first half! feel slightly better about being a Liverpool fan now that I know Barca have an even worse conversion ratio :D

erm... changing the subject... I have just discovered that the Prius has plastic wheel trims over alloy wheels. It seems Toyota thought it didn't look crap enough with the just the alloys.

Posted

Our Focus "Style" company cars have placca wheeltrims over steel wheels that have been custom pressed to leave gaps where there are gaps on the wheeltrim. They're like an odd five-spoke steelie.

I can't think that the cost saving of custom steels plus wheeltrims was massive over a job lot of alloys...

Seeing MrDuke's post on the GOM thread reminded me of some of the "funny" names I came across while in the Civil Service:

Several women called Minnie Cooper

An Arthur Daley

Gerry Rafferty

George Best

And some loon who had officially changed his name to Jean-Louis Schlesser.

But the absolute BEST, and I shit you not, was a BT employee named (and christened) John Paul GENGHIS McCann.

While doing adjudication in Attendance Allowance Branch in 1996, I spoke to a delightful and very old gent named Andrew Scott* who wished to claim due to his almost non-existent eyesight. You have to have had a condition for a minimum of 6 months to be eligible to make a claim. Accordingly, I asked Mr Scott when he first had trouble with his sight, and his reply floored me:

"12 October 1917"

*Sgt. Andrew Scott, GR13 in Universal Soldier.

I went to college with a girl called Katy Tucker-Peake.

I also graduated from uni in the same ceremony as Robin Hood when he picked up his Forestry degree.

A good few years ago I wrote a website, yournotme.com (GR8 spelling), which let you look up how many people there are with your name on the electoral role.

This is more of a grump but at one time (this was 2002 ish) the server was getting hit 90,000 times a day and I remember saying to my mate who I came up with it with "we'd have to be idiots not make a lot of money out of this". Needless to say we didn't make a penny.

Anyway my favourite was the one guy on the electoral role called Hugh Janus. Just imagine living your life as Hugh Janus. There was also 1 Darth Vader and 1 Luke Skywalker but I couldn't tell if they were related.

Seen these on Vauxhalls, I didn't know Ford were doing them too. I think they're great - alloy looks with steel strength, yes please. I also like the idea that you can fix severe kerbing with a new plastic cover in 30 seconds rather than shipping the wheels off for expensive restoration.

I've noticed a lot of local minicabs taking the plastic covers off to expose what looks like actually quite an interesting "alloy" wheel.

I've noticed quite a lot of our lease car users losing the plastic cover and then robbing another off one of the 60-odd identical cars in the carpark.
