What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

The RAF have just done a flypast here. Fuck me, those Tornados are LOUD. Awesome stuff, a truly glorious sight.

Yeah, we get that A LOT here. Tornados, some smaller things and bloody great Hercs at times too. We were driving along one day and it all went dark - that was because there was a Herc about 50ft above us! Sometimes they fly straight at our house and turn across the valley. The jets scare the shit out of you - the Hercs sound warm and cuddly by comparison.

When I were a children we used to park our caravan on a farm near RAF Valley on Anglesey. Valley is where the Vulcans were. You can imagine being 8 years old, stepping out of the Sprite Alpine to find a bloody big delta-wing bomber parting your hair! (We must have been right at the end of the runway...)

Went to a local steam rally/vehicle show today. It's been on for a few years but I'd never bothered with it before and today I realised what I'd missed, it was ace! Picture laden thread to come tomorrow, I'm off out on the razz shortly for a spot of kidney punishing.

Taught the puppy to swim today. Well, it's inate i suppose, but up until today she would never go out of her depth, and used to run back to the beach. But today, armed with a load of cheese we lured her into the deeper water until she was swimming without realising, and now she loves it! Massive grin!

I just stumbled across that nonsense a couple of pages back about the 'hypocracy' of sticking poppies on 'non-british' cars, it caused me to LOL somewhat. Give me strength

I couldn't be bothered reading it. I despair of the mouth-breathers who STILL insist on buying 500 quid Rovers "cos itz British innit", as if they are in some way supporting the British car industry. I get enough of that on the other channel.

I think we use to go there too. Deffo a caravan site by a Vulcan airfield in Anglesey, proably mid-late eighties when I was 7 or 8. Dont recall them ever moving though, I imagine they would have been pretty much out of service by then.

^^They would have been. There was a major panic to get the aircraft they need ready for the Black Buck raids (Port Stanley) as they were pretty much retired it by 1982. There's a story that RAF Techs had to snaffle bits from sentinels (the aircraft you sometimes see as static displays at military bases) to get airframes to operational readiness.

the Vulcan is a wonderful aircraft.

Tried out my new camera today, I am very impressed with it! Cost quite a bit more than I was hoping, but otherwise, it is perfect. Has a really handy mode for 'arty' shots too, so I made full use of that:

Seeing Trig's Escort on the A12 this afternoon, coming back from Battlesbridge I presume :D

Did you get that Jessops job? I've asked Mrs B to get it for my birthday.

I actually got a Canon Ixus 117 HS because they didnt seem to have any of those Fujifilms in store! Could have done with the larger zoom, but I am happy with this one.

Ha Ha! Cool!, Where abouts did you see me?, Yes I would have been coming back from Battlesbridge, I had a really good day there, There wasn't a big attendance but what was there was all A* awesomeness!, plus with less spectators it meant i could get better photos which I'll upload and add to here soon.

I also collected my Kadett from my dad's on the way back so it was great fun driving up the A12 with me driving the Kadett and Mrs T driving the Escort in convoy, Had loads of cars slow down and have a look and smile (or laugh at us, I'm not sure...).

Had a weekend with the brand new Mrs_Pillock, we decided the best place for what technically was our 4th date was the Summer Nationals at Santa Pod. Sitting with a cider watching very quick cars in the blistering heat, aaaaaah :D

As "payback" for this being my choice of venue, I "have" to to the BTCC with her at Donnington in July. Hardship ;)

Sounds like you picked the right lady, Pillock!

The Granada Club by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr

This made me grin today, I saw this Granada club at Battlesbridge, I had too laugh as all the car's had big billboards in front of them making them impossible to see, then a group of owners had set up there park bench and picnic chairs in front of them and the only Granada you could see had some semi naked Peter Stringfellow look-a-like sat in front of it. Great.

^^^^^^ Fuggin brilliant!! Thats what I love about classic car shows.

We don't do much in the way of static shows over here, but when we do, I try to place my showboard to one side of the car, so people can get a shot of the front, if they want to. And all lounging/dining takes place at the rear, where it should be.

Our big static display is in September. This year, for the first time here, I expect to be showing two cars. :D Did that in the UK a few times, I love the wave of pride that comes from being able to say "Yes, it's mine... and that one..." (and at one show: "and that one over there too"!) With a bit of luck, fleet of 3 in 2012.

Reading Vin's thread about his Fiat van. Lovely job, oddball (and therefore excellent) choice of project... and a garage full of old number plates too! So I'm not the only one... :D

Yeah, some top shite saving work going on lately - Bollox's Avenger, Scooter's Yugo, Booby's Talbot and Vin's Fiat. All of which could well have suffered fragging. Good work lads! :D

Today, I got to drive a D-reg Rover Sterling. Now I know this isnt particularly interesting to most people but it was for me, very grin worthy. My mate bought the car but left it in Birmingham overnight and needed to get it back home, hence I was chosen to drive it as he brought his own car up.

The car was almost immaculate  a real stunner, it looked like it had been galavanised and garaged all its life and it drove fantastically, there were a few minor touches that differed from my now sadly departed 825 Sterling like the headrests which have a pads on them.

What a fantastic car, about the only thing thats made me smile on this rather hot and muggy day.

Given up smoking. Today was day 1. Have just about got through the day without killing anybody. Werther's Originals & Murray Mints have got me through.
