What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Scrabbling through a box of junk, I just happened upon the 1991 Lego catalogue. Brought back some memories... :D

Had a moment of panic earlier with the Heep. Thought the centre diff was playing up a bit, seemed to shuffle a bit around tight corners in a way very similar indeed to a Rangie when the viscous diff has died.

This worried me rather a lot, so I wandered off to a local Jeep specialist expecting a couple of hundred quids worth of bill minimum.

After a quick test drive on a bit of gravel, and a quick shufty about underneath he informed me that the centre diff is fine, and that all that was needed was a bottle of slippy stuff to chuck in the rear LSD. Turns out the rear LSDs lock up a bit too easily if they don't have said slippy stuff in.

Went to local Heep dealership and bought a bottle of said slippy stuff £5.95 :). Mechanic there said the same thing, and that they'd rebuilt the rear diff on my car about 18 months ago so it's probably just in need of fresh slippy stuff.

Came home, checked the service history and there's a receipt for a new rear diff amongst other things 8000 miles ago. Close to a grand for the diff bits alone :) Shoved slippy stuff in and it's right as rain now. Bargainous repair, that.

Oh, had it valeted and spruced up while I was at it. This is it :)

Scotch the Hellas before the bullbar even gets scratched? :?:

Aye, the reason the covers is on is because on of 'em is cracked. ..

Making me grin? This place. Back to it's old self, loads of great shite-orientated threads at the moment.

Is this spurt of enthusiasm brought on by the fact that we are an AWARD-WINNING website now?

Anothr thing that making me grin is Ms_Bol is away with work for a day or two, and had left me £20 out the housekeeping in case I had to buy food etc. Now my Rover has a fresh sumpful of oil and new filter! FANTASTIC

The delivery of a Fiat 126 cabin fan. Not for a Fiat 126, but for my Imp. They blow about 3 times the amount of air that an Imp fan does so you can actually clear the screen.

Minder repeats on ITV4. Wonderful shite spotting.

Was watching (And recording) the later Minder episode - You need hands I've never forgot when near the end, some guys arrive in a muddy field in an early 4.2 Red XJ6, the exhaust note from that was loud and sounded wonderful.

Just before the programme came on I managed to get the video to record off Sky, a couple of years ago it had been moved about and wired up strangly, since then I've missed half-a-dozen episodes of things I wanted to record and keep. Yes, I do still use VHS, I'm too skint and grumpy to upgrade.

Seeing as I'm on my feet again I've made a daily routine of walking about the local areas and spotting loads of parked up and forgot shite, mostly on SORN now. I've found it easier too, usually in a car you have to park up, run back, snap your picture, go back to car and off again, until a few hundred yards down the road another piece of shite catches your eye. At least on foot I can snap pictures and walk/run away.

'I have spent well over £20,000 in modifications to get it to this standard'.

Presumably £18,000 of that was in fibreglass and the other two in glue?

I love the way they always add 'no tax or MOT' at the bottom as if it's the least important thing about the car

I've spent two years on/off trying to remember the title of a song I loved from years back and tonight it came to me in a flash...

Hi.

Does anyone have a drivers side front wing for a MK1 Cortina hiding in a shed somewhere?

I am trying to balance teH grump with positives. So here goes.

Mr Simon Lock (Skyway) of Macclesfield, step forward. He gave me this rather lovely Ekco A222 clock radio, and two old skool Alpine head units for some period tuneage in the Volvo. He has also offered to help modify the CD unit to take an auxiliary input should I want it.

Mr Pete-M has offered to diagnose my C4 lest the Engine Management light comes back on and shuts the turbo down. That nearly made the grumpy thread yesterday amid the netbook FAIL, but as it hasn't reappeared for the time being, fingers crossed.

Something similar happened to me recently. I heard a song on the radio recently which I loved when I was younger and never knew the name of. I did some internet research.

Embarrassingly, the song in question was Del Amitri's Roll To Me.

What's your secret? I tried to 'Google' Del Amitri but nothing ever happens. Nothing happens at all.

Same thing happens when I try that, whether I try it when I'm drunk or stone cold sober.

Does it go into limp home mode or liderally shut the turbo down?

Found a place to live in Plymouth so will be moving back down there next Sunday :D:D

Posted

No, going to start searching down there on Monday. Thought I'd have to get a job offer before I could get a flat but found a place which doesn't mind for £80 a week, managed to put enough back to give me some leeway in finding something. One of mates lives in the same building so it shouldn't be too bad................

Posted

WIsh I could find a gaffe for that kind of money. As it is I pay that to rent a room :(

Posted

Well it's an en suite room within a block, but still pretty cheap for rent. Once I find a full time job I can get all my stuff in one place and thus begin my old games consoles and 1:43 model cars collections properly

Just returned from an impromptu trip to Catterick to drop off 2 Soldiers.... They were meant to be taken by one of their parents, but something came up. £30 was handed over, and the onus was on me to save as much fuel as poss. So Good old cruise control on the 2006 Focus, trip computer in full swing. 1600 petrol, 140-odd mostly Motorway miles, taken at a steady 56-63 mph, to conserve as much as poss, and 4 up one way, 2 up the other.... Average 49.6 mpg! Obviously it's just what the car tells me, and it's probably lied to me, and is sat outside laughing, talking to the Land Rover..... But still. Not bad for a pez motor.

The last issue of Max Power is about to hit the shelves.

I have a vague recollection of them "improving" the suspension of an NSX with some off-the-shelf OMG SPAX or similar*. That'll be much better than the original equipment developed in conjunction with Ayrton Senna then obviously.

Watching the aftermath of a speed bump taking a bite out of the fibreglass monstrosity some chav had no-nailed the front of his ruined CRX cheered me up too. Numpty.

*It may have been a similar publication

^Well worth a grin. Adios Max Power you pile of festering shite, clogging up the racks of newagents, across the land for far too long. 8)
