No that's Jason Dawe :) Anyway I find him Quite Amusing when he jumps up and down in delight when he manages to get a set of mats thrown in when he seals a deal, even though he doesn't actually get a penny knocked off the asking price 8)

Plato is an ex-BTCC driver. From memory he was pretty damned good at it too.

Plato they say could put it away, half a crate of whiskey every day,

Aristotle Aristotle was a beggar for a bottle, Hobbes was fond of a dram

and Rene Decartes was a drunken fart, I drink therefore I am

And Socrates himself will be particularly missed,

A lovely little thinker but a bugger when he's pissed.

I really need to fire up the ol' puter earlier in the day... Talking about towing stories: years ago I had a neighbour with a Mk4 Cortina that really didn't want to start in the cold weather. As we set out for work roughly together, I usually found myself towing him to start his car. It never failed, we got it every time. My car: a three-cylinder 1981 Daihatsu Charade. :D

Specifically: this one!

Apologies for going back to PIstonHeads again, but a bloke on there posted some pics that made me grin. Here's most of his post:

A little bit more up to date, these photos were taken between 1989 and 1991 at the car dealership where I still work.

Part exchanges were unceremoniously 'parked' in the Cheapie Yard out the back...

...whilst the shiny and new stock resided in the showroom (that resembled a sauna!)

Betcha haven't seen one of these recently! This was my demonstrator for a while, all 1.5 litres of Korean sportiness! It had lift-off oversteer in bucketloads and I'm sure the suspension was made of cheese it was that soft. Last time I saw this exact car was about 4 years later when it was on the top of pile of other dead motors in a local scrappie, looking a little worse for wear.

Betcha can't even remember what the hell this abomination was! Fiat Tipo 1.4 litre motor, gearbox made with the same consistency as the Scoupe's suspension and build quality that, well, there wasn't any really! Handling was atrocious (understeer city) unassisted steering was heavy beyond extreme and to cap it all it was about the same price as an Escort or Astra or Tipo! Needless to say, we didn't sell that many and then the Yugoslavian situation began and we mercifully didn't have to stock their vehicles any longer.

And finally, the 'Yughini'! This poor little 1.1 litre 55A was our demonstrator that was thrashed within an inched of its life nearly every day. The challenge was to see if you could get the corner of the front spoiler to touch the ground during vigorous cornering. No problem!

Good fun days when the motor trade was a lot less serious than it is now. Or is it just those rosy coloured glasses again?

;)

..I did answer with 'Yugo Sana', of course.

I think I've found my next project... Wandering around the field that surrounds my friendly garage yesterday I found myself the other side of a corrugated-ally shed that had been unceremoniously dumped in the shrubbery. Under that, which I never noticed before, is a two-door Triumph Toledo, minus engine, bonnet and I think front suspension (certainly wheels). Hmmmm.... I last had a Toledo in 1982, and a Dolomite in 89, and they were both 4-door. Can't even remember when I last saw a two-door!

You know how at certain shows there's a group of blokes down the far end of the field sitting on chairs next to their small stationary engines phutting away next to them.....

Christ that showroom is ace! Even better when it features a vehicle I've owned:

(or one just like it anyway, mine even had the white stripes on the side as well)

I went to a show once where somebody had a Merlin engine in the stationary engine enclosure. He only ran it a couple of times through the day, man it was loud.
