What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Did a brake pipe yesterday on the Justy, and nothing was seized or rusted up. I was expecting several gallons of WD40 and several square inches of knuckle skin to go south, but in the end it took me about 20 minutes all in, and that included bleeding - the bleed nipple was in perfect condition and the bit of old radiator overflow pipe that I took off the Skoda was a perfect fit over the nipple, so with the addition of an old mug full of brake fluid and half a dozen pumps on the pedal it was done within about two minutes. I'm putting the car in for a test on Saturday - I've done everything on the failure sheet so (without wanting to tempt fate) hopefully it should be OK, and I can then put the Innocenti into hibernation.

Whats making me grin is this spectacular pop video, its keeping me awake at night!!!! The tune is solid KWAZL as well.

Yes. I am enjoying this slice of electro synth weirdness. It's as if the KLF did the opening sequence for a late 70's James Bond film.

Also, this weekend has been excellent. The fact I'm not feeling utterly shit for a change is a definite bonus. Saturday was a wedding, an excellent one because I knew 93% of the people present. Got a free breakfast and overnight stay in the tat-tastic Britannia Hotel in Portland Street, managed to spend £43 on booze and not get Kingsley Amis'd, and had a generally excellent time titting around with a friend's Nikon D60. He wants to sell it me. I may well let him as I might make embracing full on DSLR one of my new year's resolutions.

Got feedback from those cretins I briefly worked for in Bolton, didn't agree with a lot of it but at least they bothered to respond. Received another letter from GMP about my 0 mph traffic light cock up, they explained why the readings were and what I'd actually done, and I can go on a course to avoid penalty points on the license. One shall be taking that up and not cracking sarcastic remarks ever 34 seconds (unlike the last time the 5-0 visited college).

Saw family today for an aunt's birthday, good to catch up. Drove F_WAT'S new QuimBim wagon, much better than the old one and because of the leather seats it's actually a nice place to be. I am quite glad he didn't give his own money for it though.

Hey WAT, Wasn't it some other guy going through a red light on the pic, not you? If so why don't you just go to court over it?

No, don't. Take the course and be glad there is that option. I once got a "fixed penalty" ticket for 45mph in a 30, I knew for a fact I wasn't speeding (I'd passed the van with the speed trap on the other side of the road 20 minutes earlier, duh....) so I contested it and asked to see the photo. I was in the outside lane, there was a car on the inside, overtaking me. My reg was the only visible one (ho hum...) so I went to court to explain. Court sided with the police, I got 3 points and a doubled up fine. You are always wrong, even if you are right.

If there's another car "in shot" then it kills the evidence stone dead. Same goes for gatso cameras. Magistrates don't always know the law though...

I HAZ NEW SHITE!

Bought on a whim and so I'll regret it very soon when it falls into a steaming pile of snot at the side of the road very soon.

It's sweedish(ish)

It's based on the wonderful and shit(e?) Vectra platform

It's got more scuttle shake than anything post 1920 I've driven.

It most definitely doesn't work properly (I've already made a huge list of faults so far and the short mot is looming).

It's worth three parts of sod all so I'll guarantee to loose money on it come time to sell.

So what can it be? (Pics to follow when the sun shines)

Hell, I don't care. It's my bit of fun!(and it costs me less to insure than the 216 for some inexplicable reason)

The shittier version! I must be stark raving bonkers. So far: Airbag light on, check engine light comes on every now and again, running cold, in dire need of a good service, coolant hoses need replacing and the clutch cable adjuster doesn't work leaving the clutch bite on the floor. I have no idea if the hood motors work properly but I'm assuming the worst.

On the plus side, the body and hood is as straight and tidy as I hoped, it had a gearbox, clutch and cable 10,000 miles ago and looking at the paperwork that came with it, it had money spent on it at Saab dealers up until very recently(dealer stamped and invoices up to 111,000 - its now on 138,000. It also has a towbar (I'm into bikes and need a towbar mounted carrier to stick them on now! but the plug for the towboard gets me a little more legal with the bikes on the back)

I drives okay; no nasty noises or clunks so it might end up okay with a little graft. I've always wanted a Saab convertible since I was litlle (okay the classic shape but I'll never afford one of those) and I'm amazed at how cheap these things have become. I paid 450. From a dealer. With Tax and Test.

I've seen TWO Allegro estates in Southend in the last week! Firstly I spotted a Pageant Blue S reg example in a driveway down the road, then I was driving through the town centre when I happened to glance down a side street and spotted a beige V reg example, complete with faded, peeling paint, blue badge and non-scene roof rack! Pictures will follow soon, I promise! :D

Oh and I've bought some new shite - a 1971 Wolseley 18/85 (Landcrab) in finest limeflower that I've been after for nearly a year now! All being well I should be collecting it next week. I won the auction by just 71p as well!

Well you've already resigned yourself to losing money on it so get it through the next test and I'll take it off you for £300 :)

Seriously, for that price you can't go wrong..... it's rare enough to break for that if you hold onto it long enough, come spring there'll be a few folk looking for cabrio-only parts so they can enjoy the 2.35 hours of sunshine we'll get in 2011.

Twice resently whilst traveling to work and home I've seen a mint black A-reg Talbot Alpine comng the way. It looks the tits :D

I was chatting to an old fella yesterday who was looking at buying a new van and a car to replace his Rav4 that got written off by some young idiot who decided to jump a red and T-bone it. It was his second visit to the showroom and the old fella was telling me about the time he bought a brand new Fiesta, for the wife, and a Mk2 Granada 2.3 estate in 1978 from a Ford dealer near the coast.

Anyway, the conversation moved on before briefly returning to the matter of buying two vehicles when he drops in- " yeah, I still got the Granada in the garage..." apparently he hasn't had much use for it, so it's been covered in the garage for a few years. He reckons 50-60k on the clock. What a winner! Naturally I asked for first refusal if he ever wants rid in the near future- which didn't seem unlikely! 8)

My mate's mum has just told him that his dad wants* the space in the garage back and needs to deal with the Allegro that's in there.

The Allegro that his Dad bought new in 1979.

All he needs is a patch to allow the use of 307 rear discs and all would be rosy!

If you select the C4, the game disc judders at speed.

The check engine light might be the coolant temperature sensor, upset by running cold. It is on the 9000 anyway, which is having similar issues. I'm not sure what the GM900 is like, but does the light flash x amount of times when you switch the ignition on?

This almost went in grumpy.... if it had a different ending.

8.45 this am, waiting to use tesco's finest cash machine, a chain smoking fat woman in a Meriva "life" parked on the double yellow line outside the shop, so close to me I actually had to step forward to avoid being clipped. I gave her the evil stare, but she ignored me. I glanced at her tax disk "disabled", she was already pulling the badge out to display it on the dash. The car park is pretty empty, by the way, I can see 4 free disabled bays and a whole rank of ordinary spaces too (these are closer to the door than the disabled ones). Also I can see a Hitop van with the beacons going, and a man walking along side it jetwashing the front of the shop, these are coming towards the Meriva...

Cash machine time... as I'm putting in my card I hear a horn and a shout, followed by a voice saying "I'll only be 5... oh, please?... FOR GODS SAKE I'LL MOVE IT THEN!" and someone had to walk back to her car and move it. I burst out laughing, so did the guy with the jetwash. I went inside shaking my head, came out a minute or so later with a loaf of bread (and some doughnuts for breakfast, yum), she was coming in the door as I left and gave an audiable "tut" as she walked toward the fag counter. I laughed again, and went.

Also, her walking skills looked fine to me.

Finding the paper part of my driving license.

Unfortunately, I've only been looking so I can have points added but I doubt my saying "I can't find it" would go down to well.

Yeah, that's a bit like the time I got a producer and couldn't show my insurance policy document because Adrian Flux found it impossible to send it to my address. Went down really well that did.

Finding the live performance of this has cheered me up a bit:

This is the live show where Jennifer Finch gets 'er minge out at the end, live on the Word in 1992. What time in the day was this shown anyway?

The Tube* was shown at 9.00pm I seem to recall. I remember watching that at the time and laughing like hell.

*Possibly named after Terry Christian or Mark Lemarr who were complete bell ends.

A very underrated band IMO, and possibly their best song :D
