Daft isn't it?

I never understood how my 125 was the same to insure as the RF600 when I passed my test. Same company, £15 to change bikes & an identical policy. I know which I was more dangerous on.

I guess in the grand scheme of things, if you smack your fireblade into a wall at 160mph they don't have a lot to pay out, and owners of nice bikes tend to secure them well.

It's the 49cc heroes that cause damage by wobbling between two Mercs in traffic, and then leave it tied up with a strawberry lace so it gets nicked.

Yeah I get that. But the same rider, parking in the same place with the same security & having a much more nickable bike. My 125 was a rotten heap of chinky junk, the RF looked* tidy.

*turned out to be a crash repair that weighed 15tonnes due to filler & had a massively bent frame, but anyway...

Just had a chat with two gentlemen of the law who were sat in their brand new Skoda VRS thing, all unmarked, having their lunch watching the waves crash at Daddyhole plain.

There is a brand new Grey Skoda VRS unmarked up here in the North East, saw it out today.

But insurance is based on risk.

If 90% of Fireblade owners lock their bikes up properly, and 90% of moped owners stack it into the back of a car doing endos through town to impress the girls, that's where the policy prices are made.

Doesn't matter about you, it matters about the typical owner of that bike.

Yeah but no but yeah..

I hadn't changed, so it surprises me I was supposed to be safer by getting a bigger bike. Btw the change of bike occured on the day I passed my test too.

For those who have not looked hard, photos of a Honda 125 and a lamp post. Also an oil spill mark (or is it petrol).
An enjoyable 20 minutes, but I felt the lad was getting a bit delicate towards the end. There was even talk of getting lawyers involved on another site.

From one mechanically incompetent person to the totally competent crew down at Bovington tank musem.

Watching the epicyclic gearbox being put back together is strangely pleasing, the skill and car going into the restoration is very satisfying.

No.

They ask for proof of trade - a business card or letterhead....

Would a copy of a trader's insurance policy suffice?

A "letterhead" knocked up in MS Word in 30 seconds would suffice so yeah I guess so

They didn't even ask to see any documents from me

Nice little trip to krakow. Not as much shite about as I would of thought.

Had plenty of cheap beer now reading a book about sd1's before some more cheap beer.

I took a letter from my boss but it could have been from anyone. They do seem to vary a lot though so if one is a bit strict, try another one and you may get lucky.

I spotted this little beauty in the UEA car park earlier today.  Earliest 205 I've seen on the road in a long time, and an un-fucked-with boggo model in that gloriously depressing doom green colour to boot.  Local plate too.  8)

I've had a lovely day visiting my sister today, in Chester.  In the course of the day she played and sang some folk songs she's written, and I tell you what, she's bloody good!

Cor, that little Puglet rivals Mr_B's Cortina spot for being the exact opposite end of the shite scale in terms of apparent condition.  The tiny little hubcaps are particularly appealing.

Grinning at my own stupidity........

Just washing my face this morning and I thought 'fuck that flannel is fucking scratchy.......'

Shaving.........'fuck my face is a bit sore..'

The penny didn't drop till I was driving to work.

Yesterday I was doing some welding.....some pinholes that I was too lazy to cut out so was doing it by splodging and then joining up the dots. I do this with the mask up and squinting.

So I've got sun burn on half me face......aka a Twat Tan.

other grin from yesterday........meeting Mr Six Cylinder who came over to pick up some stuff to save me driving it to the tip.

Nice to meet you Chris..........I hope my excessive chattering didn't delay you (or bore) too much!

So if you are over the pond and you want a low spec car, this this a £10,700 (today's price)  option.

I quite like the basic simplicity of the guy's video, but would rather have a touch more opinion in the script.

Just insured the petrol PT for another year,  after a less than 5 minute phone call to Saga my present insurers when I pointed out I could get the same insurance from the AA for £50 less than their renewal quote, they matched the lower quote, meaning that I actually paid £40 less than last year....  and no press button menus or foreign call centres either, Nice one Saga, it is good to see a British company giving not only a good deal but excellent customer service too.

So not giving you the best quote in the first place and hoping they could rip you off is good service now? Shit, doesn't say a lot for what people expect from insurance companies.

Father-in-law's had a bit of luck with that Honda CR-V I put a post up about recently.

When we went to see it the seller knocked it down from the original £1000 to £500 (he's an American going back home and just wanted to see it gone). Then, because it seemed to have a slow puncture he knocked another £50 off. FIL had already committed to getting a full set of new tyres, so that helped. He took it for an MoT today and it only went and passed with just a couple of advisories. So it owes him about £800, significantly less than what tidy MoTed ones go for.

The day we went to view it someone drove into the door in his Carina E. It's happened before, he got £800 and just got the door skin pushed out. On this occasion he had to accept a bit less as the Carina is knocking on a bit - turned out to be an offer of £400 this time.

Put that into the pot and he's got that Honda on the road for £400. A good result I'd say.

Secondary benefit for me is that I get another piece of '90s Toyota bilge to sit on the driveway as we've got the Carina - if nothing else the battery will be useful on the Camry......

I'll know where to come if my Carina needs any bits...

It's a decent car, not going to be broken yet :-) If it ends up completely surplus to requirements then as mentioned I will put it up for sale - I'm sure it could do someone a good turn.
