Caught the first 15 mins of the X-Factor. And Im glad I did if only for The Yeo Valley Rap during the first advert break...

Check it out on U-Tube if you havent seen it, its brilliant :D

There is obviously some money in dairy-product marketing - that Yeo Valley ad is class, the cravendale ones with the angry plastic cow is great and the 'paradise city' Anchor one is probably one of the most amoosing bits of telly for a long time. It's the vending machine that gets me.

There was a "cops with cameras" style programme on the other day featuring "Dazza and Fazza" the chirpy traffic cops. They filmed a cyclist going through a red light at night and riding on the pavement, they found he was also drunk. After refusing to give his details he ended up in court and ended up being fined £700 with £200 odd costs! Harsh, but fair.

I was going to start out by claiming it to be totally unfair but the twat on the bike did himself no favours. He technically jumped the lights but didn't go across the junction till it was green so would likely have got off with a warning till he opened his stupid mouth and gave it the attitude.

What I can't understand is why he didn't do what I used to do on my bike when the police fancied a quick word, and just disappear down an alleyway. It's not like they'll get the chopper out! Norwich used to be great for doing a vanishing act :)

Living in Wales. Grin-worthy. Can't wait to get back. Less grin-worthy is the fact that we'll be spending the rest of this week gradually shifting all our crap/cars/crap cars over there and I'll then be without t'interwebz for however long it takes to make it work.

Have they got the internet in Wales then?

Nah, you need electricity for the internet.

I've been off on one all weekend* about how much I love Wales. I love living here love love love it. I can't imagine wanting to live anywhere else.

I hope you love it too Ian.

* I think Matt might want to leave Wales because he's so bored of hearing about it

Must admit, North Wales/Snowdonia is a lovely part of the world.

Just found this site whilst googling

You need to check out some of the car photos from Russia, I was going to start a thread pinching some of the photos but sadly it won't let you, But it does feature some UK plated FSO's and GAZ vans that look like Transits.

I've worked in Wales (but not lived there) and when we were planning our Big Move it was actually a strong contender. But not strong enough to beat 6 solid months of summer! Paphos may not be perfect, but it's pretty darn good.

'Tis indeed, as long as you don't live above sea level. Seriously, try driving from the NW coast inland, it's like crossing 2 or 3 different countries. I can get to a totally different weather system in less than 20 minutes.

Other than that, it's ace. Apart from the Welsh, of course

Oh, and Mr_Wobbler, I hope you're not expecting your interwebz to be remotely fast? We do have broadband, but it's only just faster then dial-up. Enjoy

My mums side of the family are from Llanberis. I love that place.

We are expecting less than 1Mb broadband. TalkTalk claim we'll get 4Mb. Yeah right! Bear in mind that the public transport to Aberystwyth for us is a steam train! (I think there might be a bus, probably once a week or something).

Just bagged a new cooker for £25 on Gumtree, on top of our £30 bed scored via the same excellent site. Cooker is 13 miles away from our new home. Result!

The Big Move is tomorrow. Truck is booked - an old Iveco 7.5tonner. Should be interesting to drive, especially when we get to the other end. I'll have about a foot each side to reverse it through...

Only one night in Wales and then we're back in the East to enjoy the last of our proper internet, return the truck and clean the house...

Ian, enjoy playing with the trucking version of a go-kart  and a foot either side is loads of room :D

Good luck with the move Dolly. It is a beautiful part of the country.

Today "doing business" is making me smile. It always makes me feel good, going to bits of London and buying/delivering/collecting things in a way that people in my trade would have been doing for hundreds of years.

I live in a rural part of Scotland and can get 8MB (advertised speed - 4.5MB reality). Might be lucky.

I did like North Wales and Llanberis when I visited, it's just a bit too close to England so it's very busy and a bit 'touristy' compared to much of the Highlands.

Posted

Compared to the beautiful Highlands, yes, you're spot on. Compared to the Peak District or North Devon, it's blissfully quiet! We were a bit worried about tourism, right up until the point we realised we were there on a sunny Saturday in August to view the place, and there was hardly anyone about!

Where exactly in Wales are you moving to Mr Wobbler?

Actually had a genuine, honest, reliable and fast paying eBaYer win one of my listings

My neighbour is a Taff by the way, so if anyone feels like repatriating her I'll happily help towards the moving costs.

Near Aberystwyth, so neither north nor south. My record for the journey between the two houses is 3.5hrs. Wonder how close I'll get to that in a 7.5 tonner... (probably not that close, especially as we spotted at the weekend that a bridge is closed to larger vehicles for repairs, so I have to detour around - quite a long way! I'll also have the 2CV following me...)

Creosote. :D

Painting a bit of spare fence today to make into a place to stash my wheelie bins.

Might paint the garden fence tomorrow if it's fine just for more creosote, I love it.

Being an Iveco, you should probably be more concerned about whether the AA truck will have room to reverse through. Although WVM is right, those old Eurocargos are a right laugh to drive when they're running, and the 6-pot versions are surprisingly quick too - as long as it's not got a limiter on it you should leave the 2CV behind quite easily.

EuroCargos... ahhh yes. Personally I've always preferred the Ford Cargo itself, particularly in 7.5 tonne 0813 spec, though the EuroCargo is far superior to the DAF 45. One thing I do recall about our three eldest examples before they were cut up was that they were spectacularly tail happy in the wet, and they were only 5-speed 75E14s...

And if it's a four cylinder (75E14) it'd actually be quicker, more pleasurable and far less painful to put all your belongings in a big fuck off wheelbarrow, let the tyres down and push it up Dinas Mawddwy. Sorry CMS but can't agree with the Daf 45 bit. They were a million times better than the EuroCargo in every department.

In fairness, working on an airfield, our DAF 45s were more or less... whats that technical term? Ahh yes, utterly badgered. We had two automatic Roadrunner 812s which were... okay, ish, and three 45s, two .130s and a .150. The 150 would not select gear, at all, ever, and spent most of it's time parked up from what I recall. The 130s were alright, but didn't seem to like going round corners either, very understeery. Aviance maintainance didn't quite extend to actually bothering to fix things most of the time, and I seem to recall that AV01 201 (the 150) went first, followed by AV01 089 then AV01 088. I seem to recall 088 was the better of the three, and did outlast the eldest of the EuroCargos.

My only other memories are of flimsy switchgear, crap wipers, and that they were freezing cold in winter, which is where the easily breakable air clutches came into play. As I say... Ford Cargo 0813 for me, please... !
