Popular Post P304r5 Posted January 16, 2018 Popular Post Posted January 16, 2018 Haven't posted on here for a while but was told to post a couple of pictures of the car I was given in November! Its a Princess 1700 HL that was off the road since the early 90s before I got it through the MoT! Its got the engine out currently as my Dad and I are replacing the clutch. Wish I could drive it but unfortunately the insurance for me is £2500 as I'm still 17...! Hope I've uploaded the photos properly, if not here is the link to my Flickr that has a couple of photos on! https://flic.kr/p/ZzaXZ7 alf892, Zantimisfit, Skizzer and 51 others 54
Captain Furious Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 Cracking car Wow, £2500 Insurance is brutal, makes you wonder how anyone is supposed to get on the road.
P304r5 Posted January 16, 2018 Author Posted January 16, 2018 Cracking car Wow, £2500 Insurance is brutal, makes you wonder how anyone is supposed to get on the road.thanks- my Mk1 Focus insurance was £1100 which is probably the cheapest I could get! Hoping at age 18 the price will come down a lot!
DeeJay Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 It helps to bring the price down if you can put your parents on the policy as named drivers and go with a tracker policy. richardthestag 1

DeeJay Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 Any car clubs you could join with insurance discounts?
Stanky Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 welcome, and nice to see another local Shiter, I'm just up the road in Fareham. We'll arrange a get-together when the weather cheers up a bit - Eddy is planning a meet a Mick's on Portsdown Hill in April, would be great to see the Princess there if you can make it! eddyramrod and danthecapriman 2

Wack Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 I was going to suggest a speed limiter but it's a princess , have you tried a classic policy with your parents as named drivers Odd as it sounds when I tried insuring my Range Rover the quotes were over £350 with just me, I added my wife and new companies quoted which got it down to £190 Try a broker that specialises in young drivers , online quotes aren't always the cheapest , insurance is like anything else, the more you buy the cheaper it gets , a broker that specialises in certain types of driver gets a better rate

Gives me 2 months then to properly sort the car out at least!
Dick Cheeseburger Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 Bloody nora, what a gem! Any ideas on its back story prior to being laid up?
Parky Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 Good to see ya! Car looks even better with bigger pics!
P304r5 Posted January 16, 2018 Author Posted January 16, 2018 Bloody nora, what a gem! Any ideas on its back story prior to being laid up?it was first a company car and covered 50k miles in the first three years, then was sold to the family I got it from. They used it for holidays in their caravan as it has a towbar. I think they then upgraded to a Montego but wanted to keep the Princess as everyone loved it so it went into the garage and stayed there for 20 years! Dick Cheeseburger and inconsistant 2
dollywobbler Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 Welcome back. That's some transformation. I love the number plates. I think your sensible approach is right. Clock up a year's motoring in the Focus. Manage that accident free and the premium should start coming down again hopefully. I utterly destroyed my first car (also a Ford) so it perhaps pays to get some more experience in something you don't particularly care for. cpjitservices 1
AlabamaShrimp Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 At your age what made you pick a Princess?
Split_Pin Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 Welcome. Your Princess is absolutely lovely!
P304r5 Posted January 16, 2018 Author Posted January 16, 2018 At your age what made you pick a Princess?I saw a photo of one when I was really young and then saw the feature on Top Gear and decided I wanted one!

clayts450 Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 My ambition has always been to drive a car older than me - you've absolutely nailed that aspiration. Top chodding, sir, she looks a beaut. Hope you can find some reasonably priced insurance cover soon, you must be itching to drive it. Do you know anyone with some private land ?
vulgalour Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 Welcome back to the forum. What's that, 5 Princesses on here now? One Ambassador too, at least.
