I always found the civic 5dr ( rover 400 shape) to handle and ride pretty well in standard non vti form .

Today (well yesterday actually) I have purchased another car that I can not afford. Funds raided from an ISA. Just fancied it really.... MG with a V6. Nowhere to keep it so it will be going up to the static caravan in Scotland as a project. I get bored up there without a car to tinker with and need a project...

Mrs Beard has no idea as yet.. Plan to break the news whilst we are on holiday. She should be in a good mood.

I hope.

Very thoughtful of you to get a project so you can stay out of her way so she can enjoy her holiday.  There are no flaws in this plan at all.

Err. Am actually on holiday now. Plan is to collect the MG on my return and drive it to the static..

Another day is a problem put off as someone probably didn't say.

Just got off the phone to Chompy.  He and Bub have been in a bad accident on the A19.  What I'm told is that the Escort van they were in has been run into from behind by a BMW hard enough to flip it onto its roof and off the road.  Fortunately, Bub and Chompy have got out of the van and there are plenty of people with them.

The A19 has been closed as a result.

As I know more I'll let people know.  They're currently waiting for the emergency services and are understandably very shook up. both feeling very fortunate to be in one piece.  I'm worried about both of them even though I know they're with people, I hope they're both going to be okay.  Sounds like a pretty horrible event.

All I know at the moment is they're both incredibly shook up, Chompy has a sore head, Bub has some cuts to his hands.  For all it's unlucky to have happened it sounds like they were incredibly lucky to get out of the van unassisted and with apparently minimal injuries.

Jeepers. Not pleasant. I suspect they'll wake up feeling pretty sore tomorrow after that sort of impact. I don't rule out a whiplash claim if you've genuinely got whiplash. Adrenaline means you often don't feel it at first. Glad they've walked away though. Horrible.

Angyl, I'm doing family duties tonight but if they need any help recovering the van I'm sure I can get away for a bit.

I gather the van is bent and doesn't look much like a van anymore.  Recovery is likely not an option by anything other than a hiab from what was described to me.

I hope they are OK,having been in a nasty rollover in a Reliant (still dont know how many times it rolled) the noise and experience has haunted me ever since, and put me off driving for a good year.

Probably shouldnt joke at a time like this but fucking hell, Bub needs an exorcist or something.

Posted

No.... That is awful.

Hope everyone is ok. Terrible. Am rambling as just don't know what to say or how to say it on a forum.

Just. All the best guys. Honestly

Bugger! hope the guys are both ok.

Haven't been in an accident in years but just hearing about that brings back memories of rolling a car,

that has sent a shiver down my spine.

Not sure if it's linked, but someone was on local radio saying how the A19 is chock-a-block and there's an incident with two ambulances, two fire engines and the air ambulance in attendance.  I know nothing about the other car involved, perhaps the driver and/or passengers needed cutting out because they'd made a serious mess of it.  I'm just waiting on calls at the moment and trying not to worry too much, very much on standby for if taxi/babysitting service is required.

Glad to hear they both walked away from it, hopefully they are well looked after.

Sounds totally awful.

All the best to Bub & Chompy, can't believe the continued bad fortune there. Run into from behind = non-fault? Hopefully any medical/work losses will be recoverable but more hopefully they won't be in that position.

Just got off the phone to Lady_Chompy and an interesting thing was mentioned.  When the other driver got out of his car he had a big grin on his face and seemed totally oblivious to what he'd done.  The police cuffed him and took him away before anyone lost their temper with him.  Driver under the influence, perhaps?

Anyway, Chompy has decided the AA are taking him home and I don't know what's happening with Bub yet, I'll do my best to find out and make sure he's sorted if he needs somewhere to kip or transport or whatever.  I have to assume they're both okay and lucky to have escaped serious injury because I have nothing to the contrary at the moment.

I thought the Concerto had its own Japanese front suspension? Maybe I am thinking of the 213/216 rovers.

UK built Concertos use MacPherson struts because Rover insisted on it, Japanese ones use double wishbone.

Glad bub and chompy are okay.

Fucking norah! Hope the lads are okay, both are too blokes and I'd hate to think the AS collective were to lose one of their own.
