I've lost my shite mojo I think and not sure what I want to do with cars. So I've been and bought a modern.  This does leave me with a dilemma about what to do with my other cars, do I keep, do I sell etc.

Not had reason to use the Sterling for the past day or so, so I went up today to top up the fluids and warm it up. Sterling started and ran Ok, but suddenly after a few minutes it started running rough and then cut out, it started up straight away and ran Ok again.

Supposed to be heading to Redditch on Weds for an appointment but I'm unsure whether to postpone it, take the bus or risk driving there.

Probably worth checking the distributor cap for cracks, pop a new rotor arm on there if it looks a bit manky, and some new plugs and leads. Fingers crossed it's something fairly minor.

Which is only really useful if you also have one of these....

and for under £200 for both of them it seemed like a good deal... as I haven't welded for a good few years spending anymore would be a false economy. Pictures of bird shite welding in the Vanden Rex thread will undoubtedly follow next week....

Yo mingebags! Poundland have Griffin Survivor military-spec cases for iPhone 5/5S. These are normally about 25-30 bills.

Edited to add: discovered last night that it glows in the dark, too.

Gen-yoo-ine. Came in an proper Griffin box, with a wee hologram sticker/seal. They have Griffin leather iPad covers as well. NOS from elsewhere I think.

The MoT on the Metro is due the end of this month, so in readiness I did a temporary bodge on the blowing exhaust yesterday (nice tidy job it was too for a change). Taxed it today and went out for a 20 mile hoon this evening just to loosen things up after the winter slumber. Considering it hasn't been used for ages it ran well and barrels along great. Took me a few miles to get used to the carrying momentum thing again, but as always I love it and feel guilty for even considering selling it. A definite keeper!

It's sitting a bit low at the back so next weekend I'll finally get to use the pump I acquired at SF15 to do the suspension. No 30 quid a go pump ups for me anymore, assuming it works of course.

I shall be watching with interest, I've got the blue version of that welder and the Ghost Rider looking welding mask :)

The race was on - need a working car tomorrow, and the PAS pump for the Beetle arrived nice and early! But the SLK was still on the ramp waiting for underseal and a refitted (loosely - the studs for the plastic nuts sheared and I haven't figured out how to replace without bodging)...

Tin of Waxoyl on the Aga until it's so warm I can smell it even though the cap is on. Onto the underseal gun, on to the airline... Bam! One undersealed SLK before my cup of tea got cold. Insane. Some areas to do but all four arches and the rear bulkhead and subframe area all done.

Arch liner refitted.

Now I don't worry too much about the weather. The Beetle's mess of PAS fluid is disgusting, and the aux belt had turned to mush, so it's on hold for a couple of days.

Really, really looking forward to taking the SLK for a run tomorrow. It has been too long.

How do you find the welder?? it seemed to have good reviews ... I have never used a self blackening mask but having had a few incidences of arc eye in my youf I thought it was a good investment....

I had a different make red colour welder that looks exactly the same as that and it's utter shit. The wire feed won't work right and it just judders all the time. They can't all be bad though

The self darkening mask is a really East thing to use but you have to make sure you get a good one. Again me going cheapish means that no matter the setting mine doesn't go dark enough so eventually you can't see anything

Think my new rule is stop buying cheap shit as it's shit :-)

I haven't had a chance to use it yet - busy busy week. Hoping to get a chance at the end of this week! I've got the gas kit on it.

Happy with the modern though, I've wanted one for a while ... Pickup tomorrow! Its quite a nippy thing, low mileage, ace condition.

I think it is nice to own modern and Shite.

My carpet arrived back from C A Upton (trimmers) yesterday now with leather heel mat. It looks fantastic!

But, why do birds single out MY car to shit on? Cars behind and in front and not a spec, mine, covered from bootlid to bonnet in shit! I have wiped it all off but it now needs washing.

It's a simple mathematics answer. The bigger the object, the more likely it is to get hit ☺

Also the shinier it is the more visable it is to the birdies

There was a guy I used to work with who had a 2005 fiesta which the local birds targetted mercilessly. We humored him at first, but over time we realised he was right, and for some reason the birds would mercilessly bombard the fiesta with dirty protest material, while all the other cars in the office car park were left completely untouched.

It was just a bog-standard blue fiesta so didn't stand out at all, so no idea why it was singled out. The worst episode was when the local geese strafed it, he CBA to clean it for a couple of days and when he did hose it off the shit had taken all the lacquer off underneath, they'd probably been eating nitromors immediately prior to the attack. While its probably annoying I'd suggest cleaning the shit off ASAP or it might start eating into your paintwork!

The upside was that none of our cars were ever shat on, just his one. It was like a sacrificial lamb having his fiesta about.

I bought some of them osram night breakers for my Saab, as a headlight bulb had gone.

As Kanye once said.

Yeah, I washed the poop off straight away (the car was still wet from overnight rain so used my hand!) and then took it and had it cleaned to get rid of the residue. I have just bought from Amazon a hose and tap adaptor so I will be able to wash it daily if I choose!

The first time it got pooped on was when it first came back from the paintshop.. yes, it did damage the lacquer. Inly a small bit but I cannot polish it out or remove it. I am learning to live with it!

^^^Bring to Shitefest please. Is it far off being MoTd?

That I don't know... it's very crusty at the back arches and it still has the original test failure from when it went off the road back in 2010 (fuuu!). Going on honeymoon on Friday so will seek insurance quotes when I get back and then get it up to my tame MOT man to see what it'll need.

Have you had oncoming people put their lights on high beam at you yet to tell you that your main beam is on? I get it alot with my saph, i have osram nightbreaker in and my headlights are correctly aimed, as soon as I flash my main beam which also lights up the integrated spot light they drop their lights back down

I seem to have got in to a habit of being frivolous with my hard earned money!

Not only have I splashed out on a filter, oil and plug change on the Seat, its had a new exhaust and wipers [granted for the MOT] but today I gave the throbbing 1200 3 pot engine a tank full of Shell Vpower petrol.

a whole £45 pound to fill.

Has it made a difference? God knows!!!

I like to think the engine is a bit revvier and seems to pick up a little better but I'm sure that's me just hoping my investment was worth it!
