Went to look at some lab instruments today nr St. Albans. Driving down this little road a convertible cortina came towards me- roof down too! Not sure if tickford ( did they make any) or crayford. Pretty sure it had a T bar like this

Mercedes did its Teutonic best and managed to stay in the outside lane of the m25 in heavy rain and wind. At one point I passed a maserati quattroporte taxi!

Hey twosmoke, have you ever posted any pics of your TS50X? I have a 1984 one. It's in bits, natch.

TS50X I had one brand new in 2000, blue with yellow seat, it was lovely but I was petrified of damaging it, my dad bought it for me when my AR50 got stolen and damaged, i didn't claim off the insurance i got the AR back and rebuilt it as I loved that thing. You putting an 80 bore kit do decent exhaust on yours?

I think the 'big' bore barrel and piston was the only option when the original needed replacement  ;-)

I will do the same to mine if it ever sees action again. Over twenty years since I was a 16yo and I think the bike would struggle with my weight up hills nowadays!

Parts seem relatively dear for them though..

Do the whole arm - some of those rivets can be a complete C unit to punch out - Arm off job for sure

That's sold me I think. The cheery pictures of clean-fingered men drilling out the rivets in the Haynes BoL made me think it'd be the easier option. Arm it is.

It turns a lot of heads, probably because you don't see them. I've only driven it 3 times but already I've had people shouting and waving at me, people beeping their horns and people pointing at it.

Thanks man.

It's the most unlikely candidate of all my cars (including 2 Volvos) to be working, which I think is great.

shame that there aren't more Hillman Imps running about nowadays.

Yeah, rub it in. Later this year...... I promise

Imp cut out on the motorway today, fuel starvation I think.

Pulled onto hard shoulder, had a look in the engine bay, got back in and it started again.

Not sure it's a great idea driving this at the moment but I don't really have a choice.

On the plus side, it's the first time I've brought it to work and it's been the talk of the factory - with a guy even asking to buy it.

^^ I put a 'new' filler cap on my Imp and it wasn't vented so fuel lock cos vacuum in tank.

Drilled 2mm hole thru cap.......

Will check what mine is like as that's always a good call with fuel starvation.

If it has still got the original rubber fuel pipes they don't like modern unleaded with ethanol and tend to break down inside whilst looking perfectly healthy on the outside. Super unleaded has no ethanol.  ;-)

Could be on fire or could have a flip painted knob on the side.

Haha that reminds me of a Capri I had aged around 18

A friend had stuck pics out of a porn mag all down the passenger side. People were extra friendly for a day or two til I realised

Oh yes it does ! Tescos super in particular uses quite a high methanol content to boost the octane rating .

It backfired on him though because he had a Fiesta which my Capri could unlock so I collected all the pages up and neatly left them on his parcel shelf outside where he worked ☺

Indeed. Certainly was the case that the super brands didn't have ethanol at first, but now it seems it's unavoidable.

I had fuel starvation with an Imp years back. Vapour lock cured by re-routing the fuel pipe that goes to the pump.

If it cuts out again, whip off the fuel line at the pump.

Posted

If it has ethanol shouldn't it declare that at the pump E5, E10 etc. Or is that just in France?

They only have to declare E10 or higher.

In my news, went for a drive into town in the Honda. Gearbox behaving perfectly today. On the way back, a split bottle of milk leaked onto the passenger seat. DOH! Cleaned it up but discovered an annoying quirk of the alarm system. If you don't open the driver's door within about 30 seconds of unlocking the car, the car locks itself, even if the passenger door is open! Then the alarm goes off. I'm now quite glad of the FPB7 anti-noise modification...

I have replaced the battery in the fob though, so now have two working fobs again. As it turns out the alarm is also an immobiliser, two fobs seems a good idea. Like the XM, I may end up having to keep the spare fob with me (on the XM, it's in case the XM randomly locks itself while I'm not in it).

Mrs Skizzer has unwisely just left to go on holiday for ten days with a friend of hers (female, before you ask, and no you can't have a picture).

The point being, this probably means there'll be another collection thread this weekend.

I think I have a illness, every time I see a older interesting car that's looking down on its luck and neglected I really want to buy it and do it up.

I'm still pinning my hopes on the blue Ital Van that's in the barn my Sierra came from and now I've found a Nissan 300C that's around the corner lay up on a driveway. Its been there for about 3 years unmoved, the owner as far as I'm aware in a chap in his mid 30s with a young family (i know that feeling) and it's been left to rust on the drive.

The mot history says it's been untaxed since 2012 and it has only done 43000 miles. I'm not really a fan of them but it could be a very cool car. I'm tempted to knock about it but I probably won't be able to afford it anyway.

Go on - what's the worst that could happen?  (On reflection, the worst that could happen may involve Mrs Trigger, your man-parts and some rusty garden shears, so it's your call.)

I have that disease too, but in my case the car doesn't even have to need saving, it just has to wiggle its bum at me during a moment of weakness.  These moments occur every time some clients have recently paid their bill.

Guy my boss knows wants a price for all three cortinas.

He specialises in punting on barn finds and low mileage classics. I'm thinking £3500 for all three, the beige one is worth three at least privately, similar cars are being advertised at nearly double at dealers.

It's a loss but one i'm prepared to take. It'll save me a load of stress and generate much needed funds.

It'll be the first time without an old rwd ford in my life though..........
