Washed and polished my new (to me) Saab 95, but the surface although looking nice and shiney feels rough as fuck running my fingertips over it. Hope a claybar will have some effect.

Also got the CBR running. Put a new fuel pump on it last week but couldn't get it to fire up. My mate had a look tonight and found that I had connected the fuel lines up the wrong way round. What a moron. Still, it runs well now.

There's a closed down doctors in town, I often park there. The nosey old witch opposite has told me off for parking there and keeps leaving me notes on my screen and giving me evil stares. It's nothing to do with her and hardly anybody else uses it apart from her family but they seem to have claimed it

I hate busy bodies. I sometime park across 3 spaces now ☺

Where abouts is this in town? I've started to park in an estate up the hill, it's a bit nearer, gives me a chance to to get a bit fitter.

Claying it will make all the difference, it'll also remove all the polish you have just applied!

I smelt fuel by mrs fp's car, investigated all around then saw that the fuel pump fitting was moist, though oh must just need nipping up, can anyone guess what happened? I gave it a nip and it gushed fuel out like niagara falls, i changed the copper washers but it still did it, took the banjo off and checked it out, yep rotted through

DSC_1806.JPG

A new fuel pump turned up this morning so I set about fitting it and sweating a new banjo into the nylon pipe, as well as giving the fuel cradle some new bobbins and some new electrical connectors for the wiring, normal service has resumed, mrs fp had also been moaning that her throttle pedal was too high due to the different throttle body and cable, i noticed it was higher and made no odds to my size 10 but her size 6s could only press the pedal with the tips of her toes, i kept it simple and took the pedal out, lessened the angle of the kink in the pedal in the vice with a big hammer, all is now good with thanks to percussive engineering

I arrived at the auction just in time to see the crossfire going through for 1450. Didn't look too bad either. You should see the width of the back tyres on these they're like a 911.

I also got a 2nd chance offer on that mini but knocked it back. Conclusion, hopeless lack of commitment.

Driving on the M25 at 5.30 Wednesday morning in the Sunbeam a red booted Nova overtook me at a goodly speed. Lovely to see such a dire-rear bobbing along the south London sewer.

I had my other hand full of shopping, so you'll have to excuse the Ebay-standard photo. However, the Nippa is small and it found a shite friend or two at Morrisons.

I refuse to comment on whether I tested the handbrake when back up in the snowy hills. I can confirm that the Nankang winter tyres do seem quite good though.

Nothing wrong with the Nippa, but what about the Reliant?

Er, it's a Robin. With alloy wheels! Seemed in lovely condition. I've seen it about a fair few times.

Fecking tyre keeps going down.. aint got time to get tyre shop. Anyone used tin stuff to seal it?

Wow! Has that Medical centre closed down then? Had a nose around there, on Google Street view in that car park there is a Red Honda Civic Mk4 and a flat paint Red Renault Chamade. I managed to just catch the plate of the Chamade and it's no longer taxed since a couple of years I think.

In other news, I bought some PS/Gearbox fluid for the Sterling, the power steering was making such a noise the past couple of cold mornings and it badly needed fluid.

Gears though still sometimes not catching well so that'll need seeing to at some point, probably, if I can be arsed, I certainly can't afford it right now.

Made a visit to the G-reg Sterling, the tarpaulin flew off in the wind (again) thus letting in water again when it rained which left a huge puddle in the passenger footwell and therefore more mould growing on the seats.

Spent an hour or so removing the water, cleaning it out and cleaning the seats down, re-covered car with tarpaulin and tied it down to reduce thr chance of water finding its way into the footwell, again. This'll be the first Sterling to go back on the road after the Merc is sorted, it needs to be used or stored in a dry garage.

Yes they built a new doctors / pharmacy up on the high St

Never seen that chamade about, I would of remembered that!

My old 827 used to change up gears fine but never down, had to do that bit manually, no idea why!

Drove it for ages like that and even made a profit on it when I stuck it in the auction. Had to bung the driver, tell him how to drive it when he put it through the ring ☺

OMGBIRFDAYHANGOVER. I am very poorly and I have LOADS to do today.

Currently sat on the train on my way to deepest Cornwall for another exciting* collection on behalf of another shiter. After all the Jaaaaag excitement this is all much more down-to-earth.

We should have left the station at 8.17 but are just about to leave now. It turns out the train is replacing a replacement bus service that is also running this morning. The are 3 coaches and only the front one is in use except now the others can be used but there is no heating in them. Glad that was cleared up, I was confused for a moment.

Just been taking with an interesting guy in lidl. He has a farm right next to the m3 and the Balfour? Work depot site in windlesham. One of the footbridge bridle ways that crosses the m3 is on his land. Anyway, he has said that woodlands lane bridge there ( I cross twice a day to get to work) is being removed from next month.

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Windlesham,+Surrey/@51.3594975,-0.6559347,16z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x48767f333e5a9825:0xd5c7d018de6d1b40

Engineers were at his place yesterday taking measurements or readings.

They plan to close the m3 for three days while the bridge is removed and then the woodlands lane will obv, be shut until they build a new one. Not sure if m3 just shut overnight but it's a big job anyway. All m3 traffic then diverted into a30 will inevitably cause chaos.

The alternative route for me to get to work is another mile (ish) along a faster road then under the m3 past an infants school. Oh and through the centre of windlesham which is usually gridlocked anyway.

Sad day - starlet has gone 😢

On the plus side I had a pleasant few hours with phil-lip from this here village and a good feed

Was going to do an oil change as the saab is being demanding about wanting a service. It's been asking a while but whenever I've had the opportunity, it's been lashing it down and I'm allergic to lying on the ground in the rain.

Got time today, but went outside full of good intentions and it's too fecking cold, fuck that.

It'll wait till spring!

Took MrsH and the hound to Bournemouth in her Rover 220D bubble, and achieved the best AND worst MPG in it since we bought it.

Worst - 39, we had an appointment and in rather a hurry.

Best - 59.2, took it easy for the journey home.

Poke your bluemotion and hybrids, the future is in a 1995-derived old school diesel lump in a tiny car.

220D has the fully mechanical injection pump too, who needs electronic diesel control?

Modern cars make incredible MPG claims because road tax and BIK is linked with co2 emissions, and co2 output is linked to how much fuel the car uses but in the real world they are little better than a good diesel engine from 20 years ago.

Ah, mine is the non-SDi type, so electric pump, but a rather impressive 103bhp on tap, which results in a rather rapid little car!

Solid front discs are shite though, as is the very vague power steering, as opposed to power assisted steering.

As from this morning I have now purchased all the parts to (hopefully) get the Oldsmobile through an MOT.

When (and indeed if) it eventually passes I will give it a thorough service, which it badly needs. Followed by a deep clean inside and start on the body and paintwork. As the car lives on the drive I am waiting for the rain to stop, or at least stop for long enough to bugger about with old cars.

'Di' in Rover terms means diesel intercooled, the 'D' comes with a simpler engine that does without an intercooler and electronic diesel control.

They are good to drive, similar to a mk1 Clio diesel but a lot more power, I don't remember the steering in my 220Di being especially light but it was a long time ago.

It's not being light that's the issue per se, its the fact it's light at all speeds, which is really unnerving when you're trying to break the sound barrier to take advantage of an early chop at work!

Can the pump be tweaked like XUDs then, or is that a whole different Kettle of fish?

Wuvvum has a 220Di with a tuning box and it's rapid apparently, I think the tuning boxes are plug and play like a VAG TDi.

Excellent.

Question is, do I tell the wife I've done it, or do I leave her to find out?

Cheers Phill, it was a pleasure as always and the lunch was much appreciated, the Starlet has delivered me back (well, nearly, I've stopped off at the office because I love work so much...) and not a single issue, drives very nicely considering the mileage and goes well enough too.  Hopefully Moog will enjoy it.  Not used to little engines any more, I 'topped up' the tank from just under a quarter near Truro and nearly filled it!
